NBC Olympics Presenting Most-Ever Coverage of Team Trials Ahead of Tokyo Olympics: 80+ Hours, Including More Than 50 Hours in Primetime, Across NBC, NBCSN, Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA, and Peacock

STAMFORD, Conn. – June 10, 2021 – NBC Olympics is presenting an unprecedented 13 nights of broadcast primetime coverage of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on NBC this month across diving, swimming, track & field, and gymnastics, in the lead up to the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo, Japan, which will take place July 23-Aug. 8.

The 13 nights in primetime on NBC highlight NBC Olympics’ record coverage of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, totaling 80+ hours and more than 50 hours in primetime across NBC, NBCSN, Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA, Peacock, and NBC Sports digital platforms.

NBC Olympics’ 83.25 hours of programming is the most ever for the Team Trials, topping the 76.5 hours of coverage prior to the Rio Olympics in 2016. Throughout the month, NBC Olympics will present 22 days of Trials coverage, which are expected to feature some of the most anticipated stories and athletes leading into the Tokyo Olympics, including:

  • Diving: Four-time Olympic medalist David Boudia, aiming for his fourth consecutive team; 2016 Olympic silver medalist Michael Hixon; 2019 world bronze medalist Delaney Schnell; and 2019 world silver medalist Sarah Bacon. Schnell and Bacon look to make their first Olympic team this summer. Coverage began on Tuesday, June 8, and continues to be presented nightly this week, featuring live coverage of the men’s and women’s springboard and platform finals this Saturday and Sunday on NBC.

 

  • Swimming: Five-time Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky, who could tie or break the all-time record for Olympic gold medals won by a U.S. woman (8); two-time Olympic gold medalist Caeleb Dressel; four-time Olympic medalist Simone Manuel; and 12-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte, who is trying to make his fifth team at the age of 36. Coverage continues June 13-20 and includes eight nights of primetime coverage on NBC.

 

 

  • Track & Field: The most decorated American woman in Olympic track & field history and six-time Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix, who is aiming for her fifth Olympic appearance at age 35; reigning 200m world champion Noah Lyles, who is attempting to make his first Olympic team; 2016 Olympic 400m hurdles champion Dalilah Muhammad; and 2019 world 400m hurdles silver medalist Sydney McLaughlin. Track & field coverage runs from June 18-21 and June 24-27, featuring six nights of primetime on NBC.

 

  • Gymnastics: The most decorated American gymnast in history and four-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, who could become the first woman in more than 50 years to win back-to-back Olympic all-around titles, and as with Ledecky, has a chance to tie or break the all-time record for gold medals won by a U.S. woman (8); two-time Olympian Sam Mikulak; four-time world medalist Jade Carey; and three-time world medalist Suni Lee. Carey has already mathematically clinched a spot in Tokyo, which will be her first Olympic appearance, and Lee is aiming to make her Olympic debut in Tokyo as well. Coverage takes place June 24-27 and culminates with the women’s night 2 live in primetime on NBC.

Swimming Coverage Continues NBC Olympics’ Record Coverage of U.S. Olympic Team Trials Ahead of Tokyo Olympics

STAMFORD, Conn. – June 9, 2021 – NBC Olympics presents live coverage of Wave II of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for swimming with eight consecutive nights of coverage in primetime, beginning this Sunday, June 13 at 5:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN and Peacock, and 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC from Omaha, Neb.

Vying for spots on Team USA are five-time Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky, who could tie or break the all-time record for Olympic gold medals won by a U.S. woman (8) in Tokyo; two-time Olympic gold medalist Caeleb Dressel; four-time Olympic medalist Simone Manuel; 12-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte, who is trying to make his fifth team at the age of 36; and three-time Olympic gold medalist Ryan Murphy.

Beginning Sunday, nightly coverage will feature qualifying heats and finals competition over eight nights, concluding on Sunday, June 20, in primetime at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

Team USA looks to continue its Olympic success, having led the medal count in swimming at seven consecutive Games, including in Rio, where the team won 33 medals.

Peacock will live stream NBCSN coverage of the U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials.

Over the course of both waves of swimming trials, 24 hours of preliminaries coverage exclusively streams on NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app.

Mike Tirico (play-by-play), three-time U.S. Olympic gold medalist Rowdy Gaines (analyst), three-time Olympian Elizabeth Beisel (analyst) and Michele Tafoya (reporter) will call next week’s action.

Wave II competition also includes many of the country’s rising swimmers as the top two swimmers in every event from last week’s Wave I Trials qualified for Wave II.

STAMFORD, Conn. – June 7, 2021 – NBC Olympics presents live coverage of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for diving this week, beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, June 8 at 7 p.m. ET on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA, and Peacock with the women’s springboard and men’s platform semifinals from the Indiana University Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind.

This week, 14 hours of live diving coverage, including six nights in primetime, will be presented across NBC, Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA, and Peacock. Diving trials coverage culminates June 12-13 with the men’s and women’s springboard and platform finals, all live on NBC, including both nights in primetime.

Peacock will live stream Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA coverage of the U.S. Olympic Diving Team Trials.

NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app will present 10 hours of exclusive semifinals and preliminaries diving coverage.

Paul Burmeister handles play-by-play Tuesday and Wednesday, and Ted Robinson will have the call Thursday-Sunday. 1976 Olympic bronze medalist Cynthia Potter serves as the analyst, and Kelli Stavast is the reporter.

GYMNASTICS

NBC Olympics will present 10 hours of gymnastics coverage over four consecutive days and nights from St. Louis, Mo., including more than six hours on NBC. Live coverage begins on Thursday, June 24, with the men’s competition at 6:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN and will culminate on Sunday, June 27, with live primetime coverage of the women’s final at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.

In addition to streaming all 10 hours of television coverage, NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app will present additional cameras on all apparatus during live coverage for a multi-view streaming experience.

The women’s team, which has won gold in the team all-around at the past two Olympic Games, is expected to be led by the most decorated American gymnast in history and four-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, who has a chance to tie or break the all-time record for gold medals won by a U.S. woman (8). Alongside Biles at the Team Trials is expected to include four-time world medalist Jade Carey, who has mathematically secured an individual spot for Tokyo, as well as three-time world medalist Suni Lee. On the men’s side, Team USA is anticipated to be led by two-time Olympian Sam Mikulak. Other contenders include 2017 U.S. all-around champion Yul Moldauer and 2019 world team member Shane Wiskus.

TRACK & FIELD

NBC and NBCSN will provide 20.5 hours of track & field qualifying, semifinals and finals coverage over eight nights, including six in primetime on NBC. Track & field coverage from Eugene, Ore., begins on Friday, June 18, at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN, with qualifying, and continues at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC, with the finals in men’s shot put and men’s 10,000m. Live coverage concludes on Sunday, June 27, at 7 p.m. ET/PT on NBC with numerous events, including the men’s 200m and women’s 400m hurdles finals.

NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app will present exclusive streaming coverage of select field events, including long jump, pole vault, shot put, hammer, javelin, discus, 20km race walk, decathlon and heptathlon from Eugene.

The U.S. has topped the track & field medal standings at seven straight Games. U.S. Olympic Trials – Track & Field are expected to feature nine individual reigning world champions, including 200m world champion Noah Lyles, 2016 Olympic 400m hurdles gold medalist Dalilah Muhammad and member of the 4x400m relay world championship team Sydney McLaughlin. Also expected to compete is the most decorated American woman in Olympic track & field history and six-time Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix.

DIVING

14 hours of live diving coverage, including six nights in primetime, will be presented across NBC and Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA. Live coverage begins Tuesday, June 8, at 7 p.m. ET on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA with the women’s springboard and men’s platform semifinals from Indianapolis, Ind. Trials coverage culminates the weekend of June 12-13 with the men’s and women’s springboard and platform finals, all live on NBC, including both nights in primetime.

NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app will present 10 hours of exclusive semifinals and preliminaries diving coverage.

The men’s team is expected to be led by four-time Olympic medalist David Boudia, who is aiming for a fourth Olympic appearance in Tokyo, and 2016 Olympic silver medalist Michael Hixon. On the women’s side, 2019 world bronze medalist Delaney Schnell as well as 2021 and 2019 world silver medalist Sarah Bacon lead a deep pool of contenders.

STAMFORD, Conn. – April 1, 2021 – NBC Olympics will present exclusive live coverage of every match of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Wrestling from Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, tomorrow and Saturday across NBCSN, Peacock and NBC Sports digital platforms. Fifteen of the 18 winners at Trials will guarantee themselves the opportunity to compete for Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

The other three winners (men’s freestyle 65kg, Greco-Roman 77kg and 130kg) will have a chance to qualify their respective weights for the Olympic Games by placing top-two at the World Qualifier in Sofia, Bulgaria, May 6-9.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 3, NBCSN will present exclusive live coverage of the championship series, where 18 champions will be crowned across all weight classes in men’s freestyle, women’s freestyle, and Greco-Roman disciplines. NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app will live stream all television coverage and provide exclusive coverage of select matches on Saturday evening. NBCSN’s live Trials coverage begins with the challenge tournament finals tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Peacock will present more than 40 hours of live exclusive Trials coverage, getting underway with challenge tournament finals tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET and continuing at 7:30 p.m. ET. Headlining the men’s freestyle competition is Olympic gold medalist and four-time world champion Jordan Burroughs and two-time world champion Kyle Dake (74kg) as well as the youngest Olympic gold medalist in American wrestling history Kyle Snyder (97kg). In women’s freestyle, 2016 Olympic gold medalist Helen Maroulis (57kg) became the first American woman to win gold in wrestling, while 2016 Olympian Adeline Gray (76kg) is the first American wrestler to ever win five world titles.

NBC Sports’ Jason Knapp will call the action on NBCSN from Fort Worth, alongside analyst John Smith, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and four-time world champion, and NBC Sports reporter Corey Robinson.

STAMFORD, Conn. – March 22, 2021 – NBC Olympics will present exclusive live coverage of every match of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Wrestling from Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, on Friday, April 2, and Saturday, April 3, across NBCSN, Peacock and NBC Sports digital platforms. 15 of the 18 winners of the Trials events will guarantee themselves the opportunity to compete for Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

The other three winners (men’s freestyle 65kg, Greco-Roman 77kg and 130kg) will have a chance to qualify their respective weights for the Olympic Games by placing top-two at the World Qualifier in Sofia, Bulgaria, May 6-9.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 3, NBCSN will present exclusive live coverage of the championship series, where 18 champions will be crowned across all weight classes in men’s freestyle, women’s freestyle, and Greco-Roman disciplines. NBCSN’s live coverage begins with the challenge tournament finals on Friday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. ET. NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app will live stream all television coverage and provide exclusive coverage of select matches on Saturday evening.

Peacock will present more than 40 hours of live exclusive Trials coverage, getting underway with challenge tournament finals on Friday, April 2, at 11 a.m. ET and continuing at 7:30 p.m. ET. Headlining the men’s freestyle competition is Olympic gold medalist and four-time world champion Jordan Burroughs (74kg) and the youngest Olympic gold medalist in American wrestling history Kyle Snyder (97kg). In women’s freestyle, 2016 Olympic gold medalist Helen Maroulis (57kg) became the first American woman to win gold in wrestling, while 2016 Olympian Adeline Gray (76kg) is the first American wrestler to ever win five world titles.

NBC Sports’ Jason Knapp will call the action on NBCSN from Fort Worth, alongside analyst John Smith, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and four-time world champion, and NBC Sports reporter Corey Robinson.

Full event replays will be available on-demand for all streaming coverage on their respective platforms (Peacock, NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app).

STAMFORD, Conn. – February 25, 2020 – With less than five months until the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, NBC Sports presents live coverage of the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, this Saturday, Feb. 29 at Noon ET on NBC from Atlanta, Ga. The runners will begin and end the course at Centennial Olympic Park, while passing other memorable sites from the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.

NBC Sports Gold’s “Track and Field Pass” will also provide live stream coverage of the three-hour event. Coverage of Olympic Sports on NBC Sports Group platforms is a presentation of Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA.

Nearly 700 athletes are expected to compete on Saturday, with the top three women and top three men named to the U.S. Olympic team. Two-time Olympic medalist Galen Rupp, who won the marathon bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and 10-time USATF champion, Leonard Korir, who participated in the 10,000m at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, headline the men’s field. Jared Ward, who finished sixth in the marathon at the 2016 Rio Olympics, also is a top contender.

Two-time Olympians Des Linden, who won the 2018 Boston Marathon, and Molly Huddle highlight the women’s field, along with Jordan Hasay, who finished third at the 2019 Boston Marathon and leads the Olympic Trials women’s field with the fastest qualifying time (2:20:57). In addition, five-time Olympic Trials participant Sara Hall and Emily Sisson, who posted a sixth-place finish with a 2:23:08 in her distance debut at the 2019 London Marathon, are expected to contend.

Leigh Diffey will call the action, joined by distance analysts Craig Masback and 1984 British Olympian Tim Hutchings; American marathon record-holder and 2004 Olympic bronze medalist Deena Kastor, making her NBC Sports debut; reporter Lewis Johnson, who competed at the 1988 and 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials; and four-time Olympic medalist and analyst Ato Boldon. In addition, Tim Layden will present an essay during the coverage, and 2004 Athens Olympic silver medalist Meb Keflezighi will make a special appearance. Keflezighi is the only athlete in history to win the New York Marathon, Boston Marathon and an Olympic medal.

For the first time in marathon coverage, NBC Sports Group will also debut a new graphics look and system for this Saturday’s telecast, highlighting a more dynamic and robust display of timing and information throughout the race.
