ATLANTIC 10 AND NBC SPORTS EXTEND BASKETBALL MEDIA RIGHTS PARTNERSHIP

January 12, 2021 By admin Leave a Comment

Multi-Year Renewal Provides Linear and Streaming Rights to More Than 35 Men’s and Women’s Games Each Season

NBC Sports Continues A-10 Coverage This Weekend With Three Games on NBCSN

STAMFORD, Conn. – January 12, 2021 – The Atlantic 10 Conference and NBC Sports have extended their partnership for men’s and women’s basketball with a multi-year renewal of their media rights agreement, both parties announced today.

As part of the agreement, NBC Sports will continue to provide live linear and streaming coverage of more than 35 A-10 men’s and women’s basketball games, including more than 25 regular-season games and eight games of the A-10 Men’s Basketball Championship.

“The Atlantic 10 has enjoyed a strong relationship with NBC Sports for the past eight years,” stated Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. “NBC Sports’ high-quality productions during the regular season and across eight championship games have provided tremendous distribution for the conference. This extension is exciting and we’re looking forward to continuing this great partnership.”

“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with the Atlantic 10 Conference, which consistently provides high-quality, compelling competition for college basketball fans across the nation,” said Marc Iacovelli, senior director, programming, NBC Sports. “We’ve enjoyed a great relationship with the A-10 and Commissioner McGlade for the better part of a decade and we look forward to showcasing the conference in the years to come.”

The rights renewal marks “10 years with the A-10,” dating back to the original agreement between NBC Sports and the A-10 in October 2012. Atlantic 10 institutions reside in states that comprise 33.3 million television households, approximately 30 percent of the total national media market. There are eight A-10 institutions in the top 25 media markets in the country, and all 14 A-10 institutions are located in or adjacent to the top 65 media markets.

The extension keeps the Atlantic 10, which is celebrating its 45th Anniversary in 2020-21, among the top basketball conferences in television coverage. The A-10 has boasted 65 postseason appearances in the last decade, 35 of which have been bids to the NCAA Tournament. The conference earned multiple at-large bids to 13 of the last 14 NCAA Tournaments.

Over the past seven years, every A-10 member has made at least one postseason appearance. League member Dayton had a magical season last year, reaching a No. 3 ranking in the AP and Coaches’ Polls. The Flyers, behind National Player of the Year Obi Toppin and National Coach of the Year Anthony Grant, were being forecasted as a Final Four team in media predictions before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the postseason.

NBC SPORTS CONTINUES A-10 COVERAGE THIS WEEKEND WITH THREE GAMES ON NBCSN

The 2020-21 A-10 season continues on NBCSN with three games this weekend, highlighted by a doubleheader on Sunday. Coverage kicks off Saturday at 2 p.m. ET when Rhode Island hosts George Mason, followed on Sunday by Dayton and George Washington at 2:30 p.m. ET and Massachusetts vs. Fordham at 4:30 p.m. ET.

PETER KING DISCUSSES SUPER WILD CARD WEEKEND & OUTLINES THE BROWNS’ COVID-IMPACTED PREPARATIONS IN THIS WEEK’S “FMIA” COLUMN

January 11, 2021 By admin Leave a Comment

“It might have changed the balance of power in the AFC North…And it did something else. It proved you can accomplish big things with COVID slapping your organization to the core.” – King on Cleveland’s win over Pittsburgh

“I’ve been on the other side. I’ve been in the real world. I’ve been taking classes, you know. That’s great and all but it’s not as fun as playing ball.” – Washington QB Taylor Heinicke to King on starting in the Wild Card game

“Rodgers is an all-timer by any measure, and this season was an absolute masterpiece.” – King on voting for Aaron Rodgers as MVP

STAMFORD, Conn. – Jan. 11, 2021 – Peter King discusses the Wild Card weekend games and outlines the Browns’ COVID-impacted week leading to their upset of the Steelers in this week’s edition of Football Morning in America, available now exclusively on NBCSports.com. King also speaks with Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke, previews the Divisional games, and hands out his weekly awards.

Across NBC Sports, Peacock’s weekday block of NFL programming from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. ET includes PFT Live featuring Mike Florio and Chris Simms live at 7 a.m. ET, followed by The Dan Patrick Show at 9 a.m. ET, The Rich Eisen Show at Noon ET, Brother From Another, with Michael Holley and Michael Smith, at 3 p.m. ET, and PFT PM at 5 p.m. ET. On Monday, Safety Blitz, featuring Rodney Harrison and Jac Collinsworth, streams at 6 p.m. ET, and Chris Simms Unbuttoned streams at 6 p.m. ET Tuesday-Friday. ProFootballTalk.com continues to provide the latest offseason news, and the Rotoworld Football Podcast and Chris Simms Unbuttoned podcast discuss Wild Card weekend.

The following are highlights from this week’s edition of Football Morning in America:

CLEVELAND BROWNS

King on the Browns: “The story of the weekend was the virus-debilitated Browns, with a positive (but asymptomatic) head coach watching from 130 miles away in his basement, putting the Steelers to shame with a whip-cracking performance that seemed like more than a football game. It might have changed the balance of power in the AFC North…And it did something else. It proved you can accomplish big things with COVID slapping your organization to the core.”

King on Cleveland’s week: “A week in the corona-wracked season of the Cleveland Browns begins, actually, on the Saturday before the week started…GM Andrew Berry was worried. Cleveland’s two offensive line coaches, Bill Callahan and Scott Peters, tested positive for COVID-19…Berry phoned Jets GM Joe Douglas, a friend, in New Jersey at 9:38 a.m.”

King on Browns offensive lineman Blake Hance: “Berry explained (to Douglas) about the line coaches, and his fear that there might be a spread, and he needed an insurance tackle, and he liked second-year practice-squadder Blake Hance of the Jets…Douglas understood. In fact, he had Jets personnel coordinator Christina Wedding print Hance’s Jets termination letter and his agreement with Cleveland, so Hance could sign them and they could be filed with the league.”

King: “Tuesday, 5:15 a.m. Phone rings in GM Andrew Berry’s home. He’s gotten used to the pre-dawn calls from club infection control officer Joe Sheehan…Sheehan says coach Kevin Stefanski has tested positive for COVID, as well as Pro Bowl guard Joel Bitonio. They’re out for the team’s first playoff game in 18 years. The head coach. Out.”

A Browns player on Stefanski: “Kevin is so serious about wearing the mask that I have barely seen his face this year. The mask is always on. I think I’ve heard him yell four times all season – once at a ref and three times at players about wearing masks. For him to get it is unbelievable.”

King: “Thursday: Facility still closed. Morning install meetings, afternoon virtual walkthrough. No on-field practice for the second straight day…Seven players, six coaches on the COVID list, no practice.”

King: “Friday: With the league ruling the danger of spread among active Browns players to be low enough, the Browns open their facility, sort of, for players and coaches to return in three shifts of 10 minutes each for practice…Players will dress in the chilly fieldhouse, then practice for about 90 minutes, their first time together in five days…On the field during practice, (Case) Keenum is not close to (Baker) Mayfield. Maybe 15 feet away most often, or further. In fact, Mayfield’s not near anyone for any length of time.”

Keenum on practicing and distancing: “I need to stay as far away from Baker as I can. If there’s any two people who shouldn’t be close, it’s me and Baker.”

King: “Saturday: Perhaps the strangest travel day in the august history of the Cleveland Browns…Two planes ferry about 60 players and staff per plane on the 26-minute flight to Greater Pittsburgh International Airport…To be even safer, all 19 coaches who will be available for the game are picked up at their homes by drivers from a Cleveland car service…To be even safer, five players were also picked up at their Cleveland homes in five private cars.”

King on the cost of the private cars: “Cost for the 24 limo rides: $445 per coach and player; $10,680 total. Plus tip.”

Browns QB Baker Mayfield to NBC Sports’ Michele Tafoya in postgame interview: “We had Michael Dunn step in at left guard for Joel Bitonio, and then Michael got hurt, and then a guy named Blake that I introduced myself to literally in the locker room before the game stepped up in the fourth quarter.”

King on Hance and the Browns: “When the emergency guy who’d driven 443 miles to join the team rushes onto an NFL field for the first time and blocks Cam Heyward, you get this strong feeling: Things might be turning for the Cleveland Browns.”

TAYLOR HEINICKE

King: “On Sunday, I spoke with Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke, who gave Tompa Bay fits Saturday night…(Heinicke) was studying math remotely at Old Dominion in the fall with no football job – until Washington called with an offer to join the practice squad five weeks ago. The rest is living history.”

Heinicke on his first experience in NFL Playoffs: “It’s definitely something to be proud about. It’s definitely something my dad would be proud of me about. It’s one of the things, you just keep this ball rolling. I’ve been on the other side. I’ve been in the real world. I’ve been taking classes, you know. That’s great and all but it’s not as fun as playing ball.”

Heinicke on his diving touchdown: “I’ve seen a video of the dive. I didn’t know I dove from the four-yard line. That was pretty cool. But again, that was one of those things I just wanted to go get. I knew our team needed it. I thought it was gonna be a huge spark for our team and again I’ll never forget that. Unfortunately, that’s when I hurt my shoulder. At least it came on a pretty cool play.”

Heinicke on speaking with Tom Brady after the game: “It’s always really cool when you’re talking to a future Hall of Famer. Probably the best quarterback to ever play the game. It’s a neat experience. He just told me I played a hell of a game, showed a lot of grit out there. And just to keep working. Again, for that to come from him, it’s pretty neat. Not a lot of people get to experience that.”

DIVISIONAL PREVIEW

King on Rams-Packers: “The Rams’ hopes might lay in the middle of prospective Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald’s ribcage. He was limited to 30 snaps in Seattle because of the mid-game rib injury, and who knows how effective he’ll be Saturday in Wisconsin.”

King on Browns-Chiefs: “Can the Browns keep the miracle alive? It’ll be tough to beat the rested Super Bowl champs, obviously. But I’m not a big fan of resting healthy players for three weeks before the playoffs, which is what Kansas City did with Patrick Mahomes…Hard not to like the defending champs, but it’s also hard to love them unconditionally entering their Super Bowl playoff defense.”

King on Buccaneers-Saints: “All week, you’re sure to hear that the first two games this year – Saints, 34-23 and 38-3 – don’t matter now. I don’t buy it for a second. The second game, when Brady threw three picks and looked very 43, is the worrisome one.”

King on Ravens-Bills: “The game of next weekend? Baltimore at Buffalo. The revived Ravens have been playing playoff games since the weird Wednesday afternoon loss in Pittsburgh; they’ve won six straight. Buffalo’s won seven in a row. Both quarterbacks, hot. Both defenses, hot.”

Ravens DE Calais Campbell to King on their win over the Titans: “I don’t usually get that emotional. Part of it is I’m a lot closer to the end than the beginning. I don’t know if I’ll ever have an opportunity like this again. If this was gonna be my last game, how did I want to play it? Giving everything…And even though I’ve only been on this team a year, I know we’re special.”

NEWS & NOTES

King on voting for Aaron Rodgers as MVP: “I’ve never seen a quarterback who makes the game look as easy as Rodgers. This is the best overall crop of quarterbacks starting now that I’ve seen in 37 seasons covering the NFL, and sometimes I think we play down Rodgers’ greatness because of how good all the new kids are, particularly Mahomes. But Rodgers is an all-timer by any measure, and this season was an absolute masterpiece.”

King on voting for Derrick Henry as Offensive Player of the Year: “Henry’s greatness in recent times must be recognized…Until the AP sets parameters for differentiating between MVP and Offensive Players, the 50 voters will have to do so themselves. This year, Henry’s meteoric play gets my vote here.”

King on voting for Aaron Donald as Defensive Player of the Year: “Tough call, with Pittsburgh pass-rusher T.J. Watt and Miami cornerback Xavien Howard very close…Donald, to me, continues to be the most dangerous defensive player in football.”

King on voting for Kevin Stefanski as Coach of the Year: “Stefanski, the rookie head coach, wasn’t just along for the ride in Cleveland’s first playoff season since 2002. He’s smart…Bringing the best out of Baker Mayfield (21 picks last year, eight this year) in a crucial third season…just adds to the value of a coach who had an 11-5 season, the first time the Browns have won 11 or more in 26 years.”

King on Rams QB Jared Goff: “Lots of startling events of the weekend, none more than Heinicke-mania. But this was number two: sudden backup Rams QB Jared Goff, with 1:24 left, taking the last two snaps of a surprising road win over the NFC West champ Seahawks in victory formation…Now it’ll be interesting to see, with a trip to Green Bay looming, if they came play the same style: opportunistic on defense against Aaron Rodgers, and balanced on offense with Goff well enough to play.”

King on Texans and Deshaun Watson: “At times like this, the best thing for a team and its new GM is not to jump to conclusions about anything. Nick Caserio inherited this mess, and, seeing that he’s been on the job for a grand total of four days, I’d like to give him two months – till the start of the 2021 league year – to fix it…When no one’s looking and Caserio can confidently meet Watson in absolutely privacy with his new coach, then try to surgically repair the relationship.”

King on Eric Bieniemy: “With the climate in this country and this league right now, and with Bieniemy having been passed over recently, I think if the 51-year-old right-hand man to Andy Reid doesn’t get a job in this cycle with six openings, the league will face heavy pressure internally and externally…If Bieniemy is passed over again, I think players will be very vocal about it.”

KING’S WILD CARD WEEKEND AWARDS

Offensive Players of the Week: Taylor Heinicke, Washington, & Lamar Jackson, Baltimore.

King on Jackson: “Evidently he can win the big one. That’s what the highly emotional game in Nashville proved Sunday afternoon. Jackson should play more often exactly the way he played Sunday, taking off when the opportunity presents itself.”

Defensive Players of the Week: Karl Joseph, Cleveland, & Aaron Donald¸ Los Angeles Rams.

King on Joseph: “Player of the Week? I could have split it among 45 Browns.”

Coach of the Week: Brandon Staley, defensive coordinator, Los Angeles Rams.

King: “I’ve never seen Russell Wilson more uncomfortable than he has been against the Rams this season, in Staley’s first year as L.A.’s defensive boss. No wonder the Jets and Chargers want to talk to him about a head-coaching job.”

Goats of the Week: Anthony Weaver, Houston defensive coordinator, & Adrian Hill, referee.

King on Weaver: “I don’t know whose fault it was that on the biggest play of the Tennessee-Houston game, there was no deep safety in the game for Houston. But that buck has to stop with the defensive boss, Weaver.”

NOTES & QUOTES FROM SUPER WILD CARD SUNDAY EDITION OF FOOTBALL NIGHT IN AMERICA ON NBC

January 10, 2021 By admin Leave a Comment

“He has no weaknesses. He’s just a baller. I voted for him for Defensive Player of the Year.” – Rodney Harrison on T.J. Watt

“What Mike Priefer is going to have to do is manage the game, the situations…And that’s tough for a new guy, but I’m sure what Kevin Stefanski said is, ‘Mike, be yourself.’” – Tony Dungy

“They’re peaking at the right time. They’re healthy…I wouldn’t want to mess with Baltimore right now.” – Chris Simms on the Ravens

STAMFORD, Conn. – Jan. 10, 2021 – NBC Sports’ presentation of Super Wild Card weekend concluded tonight with a special edition of Football Night in America leading into coverage of the Cleveland Browns at the Pittsburgh Steelers from Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pa., on NBC, Peacock and Telemundo (Spanish language).

Liam McHugh hosted FNIA from NBC Sports Group’s Studio 1 in Stamford, Conn., and was joined by Pro Football Hall of Fame head coach Tony Dungy and former NFL quarterback Chris Simms. NFL Insider Mike Florio joined Football Night remotely from his home studio. Jac Collinsworth and two-time Super Bowl-winner Rodney Harrison reported on site from Heinz Field.

In addition, Harrison spoke with Steelers DE T.J. Watt and Jac Collinsworth interviewed Browns DE Myles Garrett.

Al Michaels (play-by-play), Cris Collinsworth (analyst), Michele Tafoya (sideline reporter) and Terry McAulay (rules analyst) are calling tonight’s game.

Last night, NBC Sports presented the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Wild Card win over the Washington Football Team, 31-23, from FedEx Field in Landover, Md.

***

Following are highlights from tonight’s edition of Football Night in America on NBC:

ON BROWNS

Dungy on Mike Priefer stepping in for head coach Kevin Stefanski: “What Mike Priefer is going to have to do is manage the game, the situations. ‘When do I call timeout? Do I go for it on fourth down? When do I challenge?’ And that’s tough for a new guy, but I’m sure what Kevin Stefanski said is, ‘Mike, be yourself.’ I was in that situation one time, I had to miss a game in 2005. I told Jim Caldwell, ‘Don’t do what you think I’d do. Trust your instincts. You’re in charge because you’re the man. You call the game the way you think it should be.’”

Harrison on Browns missing practice: “I could not play a game without practicing. It’s so important.”

Dungy on Browns defense: “They don’t have two of their top corners. They don’t have Olivier Vernon, their pass rusher. So, Myles Garrett…he’s got to step up and get pressure on Ben Roethlisberger.”

ON STEELERS

Dungy on what head coach Mike Tomlin is telling his team about Kevin Stefanski being out: “I know what he’s telling his team, ‘Don’t worry about the other coach not being here. You know what you guys would do if I wasn’t here, you’d go out and win the game. We’ve got to get ready for the Cleveland Browns. Forget about who’s not here.’”

Harrison on WR JuJu Smith-Schuster’s bulletin board material: “I didn’t like it. I thought it was unnecessary. I thought it was very disrespectful. This is an 11-5 team. They deserve to be in the playoffs.”

Simms on WR Chase Claypool: “He is the go-to playmaker down the field for Ben Roethlisberger. He is also the guy that can catch the short pass and make something happen. Watch out for him tonight if he gets one-on-one coverage.”

Steelers LB T.J. Watt to Harrison on the best advice his brother, Texans DE J.J. Watt, has given him: “Have fun, that’s the most important thing. If you’re not flying around, having fun, celebrating after plays. I mean, it’s so hard to make any play in the National Football League, and when you make those plays, you’ve got to have fun, you have to celebrate and now more than ever, you have to bring the energy because we don’t have any fans (in the stadium).”

Harrison on LB T.J. Watt: “He has no weaknesses. He’s just a baller. I voted for him for Defensive Player of the Year.”

Dungy on Steelers passing game: “If you’re throwing 40 passes a game, they can’t all be short, nickel-and-dime passes. You’ve got to push the ball up the field some.”

ON RAVENS

Dungy on QB Lamar Jackson: “Can Lamar win a playoff game? Can he come through under pressure? Well, he did today.”

Simms: “Yeah, be quiet everybody. He can.”

Simms on the Ravens: “They’re peaking at the right time. They’re healthy…I wouldn’t want to mess with Baltimore right now.”

Dungy: “The game plan for everybody against Lamar: make him throw outside the numbers. He did that today. He showed he could do that.”

ON SAINTS

Simms on QB Drew Brees’ touchdown pass to RB Latavius Murray: “What a play by Drew Brees…This is where you know the guy has a Hall of Fame brain, he realizes where all five eligible (receivers) are.”

ON CHIEFS

Florio on offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy: “A week ago, it looked like he was going to be one of the sure-fire new head coaches for one of the six teams looking. There’s now an emerging sense that Eric Bieniemy is going to be shut out again for each of the jobs. He’s interviewed for five – the Texans the only team not to interview him at all – and I’m told that he’s been privately telling people he’s content to stay with the Chiefs until the perfect job comes along.”

NOTES & QUOTES FROM SUPER WILD CARD SATURDAY EDITION OF “FOOTBALL NIGHT IN AMERICA” ON NBC

January 9, 2021 By admin Leave a Comment

“We have a ‘Why not us?’ against ‘Super Bowl or Bust.’” – Liam McHugh on Tampa Bay-Washington

“This is why they got Tom Brady – to be in these moments that they’re in tonight.” – Chris Simms

“If you’re the Washington Football Team, you’ve got to make this the most physical game you’ve played all year.” – Rodney Harrison

Following are highlights from tonight’s edition of Football Night in America on NBC:

ON BUCCANEERS

McHugh: “We have a ‘Why not us?’ against ‘Super Bowl or Bust.’”

Simms on Bucs QB Tom Brady: “This is why they got Tom Brady – to be in these moments that they’re in tonight. This is a guy that gives your whole locker room confidence, gives everybody in your organization confidence, and they should (be confident right now). They’re peaking at the right time. The offense since the bye week has been phenomenal, and Brady – his arm, the way he’s playing – it’s as good as he’s ever played in his career.”

Head Coach Bruce Arians to Dungy on acclimating Tom Brady to his offensive system: “It’s another challenge. Getting Tom comfortable, I think that was really hard for Tom to totally leave a system after 20 years and, ‘Two Flip Wide,’ is now, ‘Dice Right.’ All of those things that you have to learn, and we just kept evolving this year to make him more and more comfortable.”

Dungy (Note: Dungy and Arians were assistant coaches together with Kansas City years ago): “What can you tell America that you taught me during our four months as roommates in Kansas City?”

Arians: “Don’t stay up watching basketball until 2 a.m. and then wake up and have to go to work (laughs).”

Dungy on tonight’s game: “I think it’s going to be like one of the old-school basketball games we used to watch – Georgetown and Villanova. Bruce (Arians) is Georgetown. He’s got this Tampa Bay Bucs team wanting to attack, full-court press, wanting to stay on the initiative all game long. Ron Rivera and Washington are Villanova. They want to slow it down, be patient, bleed the shot clock and take it into the fourth quarter close. I think we’re going to see a difference of wills and who can carry that out and get their tempo and put it on the other team.”

McHugh: “And potentially we’ll get to see if Ron Rivera celebrates like Rollie Massimino.”

Simms on WR Antonio Brown: “That’s why they got him. In case (Mike Evans) is not healthy, you’ve got a guy like Antonio Brown that can fill in and the offense won’t miss a beat. But Antonio Brown is still phenomenal, and Brady does have a great connection with him. They are on the same page.”

Simms on QB Tom Brady: “He’s totally in sync (with his weapons). That is the word ever since the bye week. And they’re protecting him unbelievably, too, and he’s got weapons galore.”

Harrison: “I’ve known Tom Brady a long time and if you hit him, you can rattle him. He hates pressure directly in his face.”

ON WASHINGTON

Harrison: “If you’re the Washington Football Team, you’ve got to make this the most physical game you’ve played all year. You’ve got to hit Brady. You’ve got to hit Gronk. You’ve got to make sure that Tom doesn’t have a nice clean pocket because if he does, he’s going to pick you apart and it’s going to be a blowout.”

McHugh on QB Alex Smith: “He can’t go tonight. Just one more thing for Ron Rivera to deal with.”

Simms on Washington QB Taylor Heinicke: “He’s got to be real conservative to start the game, play through the defense. Don’t take a chance until the game says, ‘Okay, it’s time to take chances.’”

Rivera to Jac Collinsworth on Heinicke: “Taylor’s got a strong arm. He can make pretty much all the throws, a good decision maker. He’s been in the system before, so he knows it, he knows it very intricately, so we’re really not concerned. We saw something that gave us a lot of confidence and that was when he played pretty much the fourth quarter against Carolina.”

Rivera to Jac Collinsworth on Tom Brady: “We’ve got to get him off his mark and get him very uncomfortable.”

Harrison on DE Chase Young: “We know he’s a physical freak, but the most impressive thing about him is his leadership. For him to be named a captain as a rookie really speaks to the respect from his teammates and his work ethic.”

ON BILLS

Harrison on QB Josh Allen: “He is so good it’s just ridiculous.”

Simms: “The Colts outplayed Buffalo, but I think Josh Allen just made some plays that overcame his team not playing their best.”

Simms on Bills QB Josh Allen: “Other than Mahomes and Rodgers, he’s right there with the best usage of (hard counts).”

Simms on Allen: “He’s almost unstoppable from the five-yard line and in. The way he can extend plays, run, throw – he can do it all.”

Harrison on Allen: “The thing that really stands out to me is his patience. Before, even if it wasn’t open down the field, he would force it. Now, he has no problem checking it down, he’s very patient and I think that’s part of his growth process.”

ON COLTS

Harrison: “Say what you want about Philip Rivers, but I love the way he competed. He gave them the opportunity to win today.”

ON COACHING VACANCIES

Florio: “There’s some buzz that for one of these other jobs that are currently available, the team looking for a coach may call a team that currently has a head coach and see if it can work out essentially a trade for that coach.”

ON DESHAUN WATSON

Florio on Texans potentially trading QB Deshaun Watson: “It’s pretty serious. There’s smoke and there’s definitely fire. I’m told the Texans are deliberately trying to downplay the situation as it relates to how severe it currently is – and it is severe. So, if it does get to the point where Watson wants out and the Texans are willing to accommodate it, what would he bring via trade value? I talked to some general managers today and the loose consensus is three first-round picks, and one told me that if this year’s first-round pick is in the top 10, that makes it even more attractive and it becomes almost an offer that the Texans couldn’t refuse – if Watson wants out.”
