U.S. Women tip off against Tokyo Olympic Silver Medalist Japan on Monday, July 29

U.S. Women (Roster to be Announced at a Later Date) aim for Unprecedented 8th Consecutive Gold Medal; U.S. Men Look to Earn 8th Gold in Past 9 Olympics

STAMFORD, Conn. – April 17, 2024 – Following this morning’s USA Men’s National Team roster reveal by USA Basketball, NBC Sports today announced that Noah Eagle will serve as the play-by-play voice for Team USA men’s and women’s basketball games and medal round competition at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris this summer. NBC Sports’ analysts and reporters for these games will be announced in the coming weeks.

Team USA games (and the medal rounds) will be presented across NBC, Peacock, and USA Network, with specific platforms to be announced at a later date.

“Noah has excelled on many high-profile events, including as our lead Big Ten voice, and NBA and college basketball games. We are excited to hear him call Team USA’s quest for gold in both the men’s and women’s tournaments this summer,” said Rebecca Chatman, Vice President and Coordinating Producer, NBC Olympics Production.

“I’m honored to be a part of the coverage for Team USA’s pursuit of gold on the hardwood. Both the men’s and women’s sides are loaded with star power and some of the most elite coaches the sport has ever seen,” Eagle said. “With the incredible NBC Olympic team alongside, I can’t wait for that first game to tip off.”

LeBron James and Stephen Curry will play together for the first time for Team USA, which opens play on Sunday, July 28 (vs. Serbia), while the U.S. women’s team (roster to be announced at a later date) tips off its slate the next day, Monday, July 29 (vs. Japan). With the sport’s continued rapid growth globally, this summer’s basketball tournaments are expected to have the deepest pool of talented players and most competitive fields in any Olympics.

Team USA basketball will be Eagle’s second NBC Olympics assignment, as he called 3×3 Basketball three years ago for the Tokyo Olympics. This past NBA season, he called select Brooklyn Nets games for YES Network and previously served as the radio voice of the Los Angeles Clippers for four seasons.

Eagle, who last week earned a Sports Emmy nomination following his first season as the play-by-play voice of the Big Ten Saturday Night football package on NBC and Peacock, handled Big Ten men’s basketball on Peacock this past season. He also called a 2023 NFL regular season game for NBC Sports and worked on the Sports Emmy-nominated NFL Playoffs on NBC/Peacock in January and Nickelodeon’s telecast of Super Bowl LVIII in February.

Team USA Roster and Schedules

As part of the U.S. men’s roster announcement, USA Basketball and NBC co-produced a video, featuring Grammy, Emmy, and Academy Award-winning artist Common. The team is led by four-time NBA champion, four-time NBA MVP, and NBA all-time scoring leader LeBron James, playing in his first Olympics since London 2012, and two-time NBA Finals MVP and 2014 NBA MVP Kevin Durant, in pursuit of his fourth Olympic gold medal, which would be a record in men’s basketball. Four-time NBA champion, two-time NBA MVP, and all-time leader in three pointers Stephen Curry, and reigning NBA MVP and two-time NBA scoring leader Joel Embiid are both set to make their Olympic debuts.

The 12-man roster for USA has won a combined 10 Olympic gold medals, three FIBA World Cup titles, eight NBA MVP awards and 14 NBA championships, and account for 84 All-Star selections and 33 All-NBA First Team selections.

The U.S. men’s team will be led by Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, who makes his Olympic head coaching debut. Kerr, who won five NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs during his playing career, has won four titles as head coach of the Warriors since 2014. He previously served as an assistant coach on the gold medal-winning team in Tokyo. Assisting him in Paris will be two-time NBA champion and Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue (an NBA champion as head coach with the 2016 Cavaliers and as a player with the 2000 and 2001 Lakers), and Gonzaga head coach Mark Few.

The U.S. men will begin their campaign for a fifth consecutive gold medal on Sunday, July 28 when they take on Serbia, which is expected to be led by two-time NBA MVP and defending NBA champion Nikola Jokic. Later that week, on Wednesday, July 31, Team USA faces South Sudan, likely starring Duke commit Khaman Maluach, who is widely considered one of the top prospects in the 2025 NBA Draft.

The U.S. women, whose roster will be announced by USA Basketball at a later date, begin their quest for an unprecedented eighth consecutive gold medal on Monday, July 29, against Tokyo Olympic runners-up Japan. The seven consecutive gold medals won by the Team USA women is tied with the Team USA men (1936-68) for the most by any country in a team sport in the Olympics.

The U.S. women’s team will be led by six-time WNBA champion coach Cheryl Reeve, who won four titles as head coach of the Minnesota Lynx and two as an assistant with the Detroit Shock. A three-time WNBA Coach of the Year and the 2019 WNBA Basketball Executive of the Year, Reeve previously served as an assistant on the gold medal-winning teams in Tokyo and Rio. Assisting her in Paris will be Duke head coach, 2008 Beijing gold medalist basketball player, and Tokyo Olympic 3×3 basketball gold medalist head coach Kara Lawson, Texas A&M head coach Joni Taylor, and 2019 WNBA champion head coach Mike Thibault, who won a gold medal in Beijing in 2008 as an assistant coach on the women’s team.

All preliminary round games will be played at Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, outside of Paris, while the knockout rounds will be played at Bercy Arena in the capital city.

Each team will play the other three teams in its group and will earn two points for a win, one point for a loss, and zero points for a loss by forfeit. At the end of the group phase, the top two teams in each group will automatically advance to the quarterfinals, with the two best third-place teams also moving on. From there, the tournament will move to a single-elimination format.

12 countries qualify for the Olympic tournament. On the men’s side, they are: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Serbia, South Sudan, and the United States. The four remaining spots will be determined at the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in July.

On the women’s side, all 12 spots have been filled: Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, Serbia, Spain, and the United States.

In Paris this summer, the world’s greatest athletes will compete against the backdrop of one of the most beautiful cities in the world where the modern Olympic Games were conceived 130 years ago. This will be the third time Paris has hosted the Olympics (1900 and 1924), tying London for the most as a Summer Games host. Los Angeles (1932, 1984) will tie those two cities when it hosts the first Summer Games in the U.S. in 32 years in 2028.

The organizers of Paris 2024 are reimagining the Games to make them more accessible to the public and to showcase their city to the world. In a first, competitions will be held amidst iconic Parisian landmarks – beach volleyball at the Eiffel Tower, equestrian at the Palace of Versailles, and urban sports at Place de la Concorde.

Last May, NBCU announced that the NBC broadcast network and streaming service Peacock will be the company’s primary platforms for its coverage of the Olympic Games Paris 2024, scheduled for July 26-Aug. 11. Click here for more programming information.

NBCU owns the U.S. media rights to the Olympic Games through 2032, which are scheduled for Paris (2024), Milan Cortina (2026), Los Angeles (2028) and Brisbane (2032). The host city for the 2030 Olympic Winter Games has not yet been chosen.

STAMFORD, Conn. – April 16, 2024 – NBC Sports presents live coverage of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Wrestling with over 60 hours of live coverage across Peacock and USA Network over two days from the Bryce Jordan Center at Penn State University in State College, Pa., beginning on Peacock this Friday, April 19, with all four mats from Session 1 at 10 a.m. ET. All Olympic Trials coverage this weekend will also stream via NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app.

Wrestling is one of the oldest known Olympic sports and was first introduced at the Ancient Olympic Games in 708 BC. At the time, wrestling was one of the most widely-practiced and popular sports in the region, with athletes such as six-time champion Milo of Croton and five-time champion Hipposthenes of Sparta’s achievements becoming the feats of legend. Greco-Roman wrestling first appeared on the Olympic program in 1896 at the first modern Olympic Games, but only one bout was held. Freestyle wrestling debuted a few years later at the 1904 St. Louis Games, and both forms of wrestling have been featured on every Olympic program since 1920. Women’s wrestling was introduced at the 2004 Athens Games.

The U.S. topped the wrestling medal standings at the Tokyo Games (nine) and is poised to continue its success in Paris. The U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Wrestling are expected to feature four individual reigning world champions, including Tokyo Olympic men’s 86 kg gold medalist David Taylor as well as hopeful first-time Olympians Amit Elor (competing at Trials in the women’s freestyle 68 kg), and Zain Retherford (competing in men’s freestyle 65 kg). Additionally on the men’s side, Tokyo Olympic men’s freestyle 74 kg bronze medalist and four-time world champion Kyle Dake aims to make his second Olympic team, while Rio Olympic 97 kg gold medalist and Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Kyle Snyder – who, in 2016, became the youngest American wrestler ever to win Olympic gold at age 20 – aims to qualify for his third Olympic team. Jordan Burroughs, 2012 London Olympic gold medalist at 74 kg, also looked to make his third Olympic team and first since Rio 2016.

On the women’s side, Rio Olympic 53 kg gold medalist and Tokyo Olympic 57 kg bronze medalist Helen Maroulis, Tokyo Olympic 76 kg silver medalist Adeline Gray, and Tokyo Olympic 50 kg bronze medalist Sarah Hildebrandt are some of the top names who will be competing to qualify for Paris. Tokyo Olympians Jacarra Winchester and Kayla Miracle are also expected to be in the mix for spots in their respective weight classes.

NBC Sports’ Jason Knapp will call the event, joined by analyst and 1988 U.S. Olympic wrestler Jim Scherr, a former U.S. Olympic Committee CEO, and reporter Zora Stephenson.

OLYMPIC FLAME FOR THE OLYMPIC GAMES PARIS 2024 LIT IN SYMBOLIC CEREMONY IN ANCIENT OLYMPIA

April 16, 2024 By admin

On the eve of 100 days to go, the flame for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 has been lit. It was ignited at the historic birthplace of the Olympic Games in Ancient Olympia in Greece. The Olympic flame, embodying peace and hope, will now journey across Greece before coming to France. After arriving in Marseille on 8 May, it will travel across the entire country, and some French overseas territories, arriving at the Opening Ceremony in Paris on 26 July.

Amongst the dignitaries attending this historic event today were International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach, President of the Hellenic Republic, Her Excellency Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the Vice President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, Paris 2024 Organising Committee President, Tony Estanguet, President of the French National Olympic Committee and IOC Member, David Lappartient, the IOC Members in France, Guy Drut and Jean-Christophe Rolland, the French Minister of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, the Chair of the IOC’s Paris 2024 Coordination Commission, Pierre-Olivier Beckers Vieujant and the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo.

In his speech, in front of thousands of people, President Bach highlighted Paris 2024’s dedication to upholding the Olympic values and fostering global unity. He said: “The Olympic Games are the only event that brings the entire world together in peaceful competition. The Olympic athletes send this powerful message: yes, it is possible to compete fiercely against each other and at the same time live peacefully together under one roof. The athletes will shine and show us what greatness humans are capable of with all their excellence, determination and resilience.”

He continued: “This power of sport will make the Olympic Games Paris 2024 a great symbol of human excellence and unity of all humankind in all our diversity. These expectations are shared by billions of people around the world. In these difficult times we are living through, with wars and conflicts on the rise, people are fed up with all the hate, the aggression and negative news they are facing day in and day out. In their hearts – in all our hearts – we are longing for something which brings us together. We are longing for something that is unifying. We are longing for something that gives us hope.”

President Bach also spoke of the unified commitment to the success of Paris 2024, praising the innovative spirit of the Organising Committee, expressing confidence in France’s preparations and acknowledging the growing anticipation ahead of this summer’s Games.

He said: “This Olympic flame will carry this Olympic spirit from here, our ancient roots, through all of France and finally to Paris – making the City of Light shine even brighter. The Olympic flame will shine over the first Olympic Games inspired by our Olympic Agenda reforms from start to finish. These Olympic Games will be younger, more inclusive, more urban, more sustainable. These will be the very first Olympic Games with full gender parity, because the IOC allocated exactly 50 per cent of the places to female and male athletes.”

The ceremony also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the work being done by Paris 2024, together with stakeholders from the sporting, political and social sectors in France, in realising an important objective of Olympic Agenda 2020: creating a legacy well before the Olympic competitions have even started. Paris 2024’s concept of delivering “Games Wide Open” has engaged millions of people already by promoting physical activity, education, inclusion, equality and sustainability.

Paris 2024 Organising Committee President Tony Estanguet also spoke at the ceremony, sharing the collective anticipation of the host nation. He said: “France is ready to welcome the Olympic Games, a hundred years after the last summer edition on our soil. It is with great pride and honour that we will be hosting the Olympic Games in the country of their founder, Pierre de Coubertin, where we keep a very strong and special link with Olympism. After the first participation of women in the Games at Paris 1900 and the creation of the first Athletes’ Village for Paris 1924, we are ready to write a new chapter in the great Olympic history with the third Games in Paris, France. We want to thank the IOC and Thomas Bach for the enduring help and support, all these years, which have allowed us to conceive and create Games that are not only spectacular, but also more responsible, notably from an environmental point of view, which will make them all the more exceptional. Together, we will organise great Games, and it starts today, with the Olympic Torch Relay!”

The lighting ceremony, held at the Temple of Hera, paid homage to the Olympic Games’ Greek heritage, reinforcing the profound link between ancient traditions and the modern Games. The flame was kindled by the high priestess and, along with an olive branch symbolising peace, was passed to the first torchbearer.

This honour was given to Greek rower, Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist Stefanos Douskos, who then passed it on to Laure Manaudou, the first French torchbearer on Greek soil and an Olympic champion at Athens 2004. The flame will now travel onwards, first embarking upon an 11-day journey across Greece, during which the flame will be carried over 5,000 kilometres, through 43 municipalities.

The Olympic flame will then be passed on to the Paris 2024 Organising Committee at an official handover ceremony in the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens before it boards the historic French three-masted ship, Belem. It’s voyage across the Mediterranean will then begin, a journey reflecting the enduring friendship between Greece and France, arriving in the port of Marseille on 8 May, marking the beginning of celebratory festivities in the host nation.

Around 10,000 torchbearers will then carry the Olympic flame over the following 69 days. The route will take them through around 400 cities, across 65 regions in France, and includes visits to six overseas territories (Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, French Polynesia, Réunion and New Caledonia).

To rewatch the full Olympic flame lighting ceremony, watch on Olympics.com.

More information about the Olympic Torch Relay can be found here.

The Olympic Games Paris 2024 begin on 26 July and will continue until 11 August. Thereafter, the Paralympic Games will take place from 28 August until 8 September.

The International Olympic Committee is a not-for-profit, civil, non-governmental, international organisation made up of volunteers which is committed to building a better world through sport. It redistributes more than 90 per cent of its income to the wider sporting movement, which means that every day the equivalent of USD 4.2 million goes to help athletes and sports organisations at all levels around the world.

    • Argentina Men’s National Team: The current winner of the FIFA World Cup, Argentina has won two consecutive gold medals at the Olympic Games in 2004 and 2008. • Mijaín López (Cuba) – Wrestling: Cuba’s headliner who has conquered gold in the last four Olympic Games. If López were to win gold in Paris 2024, it would make him the first athlete in history to win gold in the same individual event at five Olympic Games.

NBC and Peacock will present live coverage of the Closing Ceremony from the Stade de France, the country’s national stadium, on Sunday, August 11, beginning at 2 p.m. ET. Primetime coverage will begin at 7 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and Peacock.

“We are excited for Jimmy to make his official Olympic debut in an iconic setting at the biggest party in the world with Mike, while Terry, Tara, and Johnny return to provide a fashionably fun take on the pageantry and parade of athletes who competed in Paris,” said Molly Solomon, Executive Producer and President, NBC Olympics Production.

Fallon will make his Olympics debut as a commentator this summer in Paris, 10 years after The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon launched during the second week of the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Fallon has contributed to prior NBC Olympics presentations, beginning in Vancouver in 2010, when he performed at the Whistler Mountain skiing venue medals plaza.

Tirico, who will host his fourth Opening Ceremony this summer, has been honored with the Sports Emmy for Outstanding Sports Personality – Studio Host in each of the last two years, highlighted by his role as primetime host of the Beijing Olympics (2022) and Tokyo Olympics (2021). Tirico also hosted the PyeongChang Opening Ceremony in 2018 and the Closing Ceremony for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

On the March 12 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tirico appeared on the show alongside Kelly Clarkson and Peyton Manning to announce the trio as hosts of the Opening Ceremony. At the end of the segment, Tirico surprised Fallon with an invitation to join him as co-host of the Closing Ceremony and Fallon accepted.

“Is this real?” Fallon asked when offered the invite by Tirico, who assured him that it was in fact real. Fallon: “I’m in! I’m going to do it!” During the following night’s broadcast, Fallon confirmed: “It’s real. It’s happening. I’m headed to Paris. I’m going to co-host the Olympics Closing Ceremony this summer.”

Gannon, Lipinski, and Weir – who called the past three Olympic Winter Games figure skating competitions and NBC Sports’ top skating events – previously served as NBCU’s Closing Ceremony hosts for PyeongChang, Tokyo, and Beijing. Gannon will also call gymnastics in Paris for the second straight Games.

April 4, 2024 By admin

“All the drama we love about the Olympics begins with Making Team USA, when our nation’s best athletes vie to make the most competitive team in the world. In some events, it’s harder to qualify for the U.S. team than it is to win a medal at the Olympics themselves.” – Molly Solomon, Executive Producer & President of NBC Olympics Production

U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Swimming, Gymnastics, Track & Field, and Diving to be Presented in June Across NBC, Peacock, and USA Network; Wrestling, Rowing, and Canoe to be Presented in April Across Peacock and USA Network

U.S. Paralympic Team Trials for Rowing, Swimming and Track & Field to be Presented Across Peacock and CNBC

STAMFORD, Conn. – April 4, 2024 – The road to the Olympic Games Paris 2024 for the United States’ best and brightest athletes starts here: NBCUniversal will present comprehensive coverage of Making Team USA Presented by Xfinity — the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Team Trials — this spring and summer. NBCU is presenting over 200 hours of coverage, including more than 35 hours in primetime on NBC in the lead up to the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris, France, which take place July 26-Aug. 11.

Team USA is arguably the hardest Olympic team to make and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Team Trials are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many of the athletes involved, representing the culmination of decades of training and preparation. NBCU’s Making Team USA coverage strives not only to capture the athletic performances at the Trials but to also include athlete-led storytelling and behind-the-scenes content to fully present the experience of qualifying for the Olympics.

“All the drama we love about the Olympics begins with Making Team USA, when our nation’s best athletes vie to make the most competitive team in the world. In some events, it’s harder to qualify for the U.S. team than it is to win a medal at the Olympics themselves,” said Molly Solomon, Executive Producer & President of NBC Olympics Production. “Earning a place on Team USA is a lifelong dream for these athletes and most of them get only one opportunity to do so, which is what makes the competition so fierce and the drama so compelling. But the reward for all the hard work is sweet — once you make Team USA, you’re an Olympian for life.”

“The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Team Trials offer some of the best competition anywhere in the world – a testament to the excellence and depth of the athlete pool striving to represent Team USA in Paris this summer,” said Rocky Harris, USOPC chief of sport and athlete services. “We are looking forward to the Paris Games – opening just a little more than 100 days from now – but first we join fans around the country in celebrating the awesome effort of athletes giving their all to make Team USA.”

NBCU’s April coverage consists of wrestling, rowing, and canoe/kayaking while June covers swimming, diving, track & field, and gymnastics, including 14 nights in primetime on NBC. Some of the most anticipated stories and athletes for the June events leading into Paris include:

    • Swimming: Seven-time Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky, who could tie or break the all-time record for Olympic gold medals won by a U.S. woman (8); seven-time Olympic gold medalist Caeleb Dressel, who earned five in Tokyo; 14-time world medalist Kate Douglass; and six-time Olympic medalist Ryan Murphy. Coverage runs from June 15-23 and includes nine nights of primetime coverage on NBC.

    • Gymnastics: The most decorated gymnast in history and four-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles looks to make her third U.S. Olympic Team in hopes of becoming the first woman to win two Olympic all-around titles since Czechoslovakia’s Věra Čáslavská in 1964 and 1968. Like Ledecky, Biles has the chance to tie or break the all-time record for Olympic gold medals won by a U.S. woman (8). She likely won’t be the only gold medalist on hand in Minneapolis; three-time Tokyo Olympic medalist and defending Olympic all-around champion Suni Lee seeks her second Olympic berth and a chance to match Čáslavská’s feat, and 2012 gold medalist Gabby Douglas looks to make the field in Minneapolis as well. Other top women are Tokyo Olympic floor gold medalist Jade Carey; Tokyo Olympic team silver medalist Jordan Chiles; six-time world medalist Shilese Jones; and four-time world medalist Leanne Wong. The U.S. men feature the most talent in a generation, including individual 2023 World Championship medalists Fred Richard and Khoi Young, and past world medalists and Tokyo Olympians Brody Malone and Yul Moldauer. Live coverage takes place June 27-30 and culminates with the women’s final live in primetime on NBC.

    • Track & Field: Six-time world champion Noah Lyles, coming off a 2023 World Championship performance that saw him become the first athlete since Usain Bolt to win the men’s 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay; defending Olympic women’s 400m hurdles champion and world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone; reigning women’s 100m world champion Sha’Carri Richardson, looking to make her Olympic debut; and two-time defending Olympic men’s shot put gold medalist and world record holder Ryan Crouser, aiming to become the first athlete to win three consecutive shot put gold medals. Track & field coverage runs from June 21-24 and June 27-30, featuring eight nights of primetime on NBC.

    • Diving: Tokyo Olympic synchronized 10m platform silver medalist Jessica Parratto, aiming for her third Olympic appearance; Tokyo Olympic synchronized 3m springboard silver medalist Andrew Capobianco; and Tokyo Olympian Tyler Downs are all expected to compete. Coverage will take place June 17-23, and includes live coverage of the men’s and women’s springboard and platform finals on NBC.

As presenting sponsor, Xfinity will partner with NBCUniversal to shine a light on the journeys of these remarkable athletes across its connectivity and entertainment platforms.  Xfinity is also rolling out its Xfinity Athlete Connections program, which will provide a “connections credit” to each athlete who qualifies for the 2024 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams to help them remain connected while pursuing their dreams this summer.

“The Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 will be nothing short of extraordinary. As a proud partner of Team USA, we’re honored to spotlight the incredible athletes on their path to Making Team USA,” said Matt Lederer, Vice President, Brand Partnerships & Amplification, Xfinity. “And, our Xfinity Athlete Connections program will keep Team USA athletes connected to what matters most during their pursuit of Olympic and Paralympic gold.”

NBCU has already presented U.S. Olympic Team Trials coverage of Boxing, the Marathon, and Table Tennis.

All Olympic and Paralympic Trials coverage streams via NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app.

NBC TELEVISION NETWORK’S LIVE COVERAGE OF 2024 PARIS OLYMPICS OPENING CEREMONY TO MAKE IMAX DEBUT

March 22, 2024 By admin

Olympic Games Paris 2024’s Spectacular Event on Paris’ River Seine to be Presented across More Than 150 IMAX Screens Nationwide for the First Time Ever

STAMFORD, Conn. and NEW YORK, New York – March 22, 2024 – The NBC television network will extend its live coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony to IMAX locations nationwide on Friday, July 26 — the first time ever the global event will be presented live in IMAX, it was announced today.

The plans for the Opening Ceremony are unlike any other. The first-ever Summer Olympic opening ceremony not held in a stadium, the organizers are turning one of the world’s most famous waterways, the River Seine, into the world’s biggest theatrical stage. Instead of walking into a stadium, a four-mile-long flotilla of nearly 100 boats will carry thousands of athletes from more than 200 countries past hundreds of thousands of spectators seated on the banks of the Seine. The river parade will follow the course of the Seine past the iconic sites of Paris, from Austerlitz Bridge, beside the Jardin des Plantes, crossing through central Paris and finishing in front of the Trocadéro, where the final elements of the show and ceremony will take place.

IMAX will present NBC’s live coverage of this summer’s Opening Ceremony to more than 150 IMAX locations throughout the United States, providing fans with a unique and immersive theatre experience to enjoy what promises to be one of the most spectacular Opening Ceremonies in Olympic history.

Last week, it was announced that Emmy Award-winning talk show host and Grammy Award-winning artist Kelly Clarkson and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback and two-time Super Bowl champion Peyton Manning will join two-time Sports Emmy Award-winner and NBC Olympics primetime host Mike Tirico to host NBCUniversal’s coverage of the Opening Ceremony.

“We look forward to providing our Opening Ceremony coverage to audiences at IMAX locations across the country, sharing in this historic moment as the world regathers to witness the spectacular beginning of 16 days of athletic greatness against the backdrop of one of the most beautiful cities in the world,” said Gary Zenkel, President, NBC Olympics.

“We are excited to extend NBC’s coverage of the Opening Ceremony to IMAX theatres across the U.S., allowing fans to gather and watch the highly-anticipated and awe-inspiring start to the Paris Olympic Games this July,” said Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX.

On March 29, an NBCUniversal promotional trailer for its coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics will begin to run in IMAX theatres nationwide. Tickets will be available for purchase at local IMAX locations and on Fandango this summer.   In Paris this summer, the world’s greatest athletes will compete against the backdrop of one of the most beautiful cities in the world where the modern Olympic Games were conceived 130 years ago. PEACOCK UNVEILS ITS VIEWING EXPERIENCE FOR OLYMPIC GAMES PARIS 2024

March 20, 2024 By admin

Industry-First Interactive Features Ensure Fans Can Discover Every Moment and Every Medal on the Most Comprehensive Olympics Streaming Destination in U.S. Media History

New Features Peacock Live Actions and Peacock Discovery Multiview Provide Unprecedented Viewer Control During Event Coverage

NEW YORK – March 20, 2024 – Peacock’s viewing experience for the Olympic Games Paris 2024, which will be the most comprehensive streaming destination ever for the Olympic Games, will introduce industry-first interactive features that help fans navigate more than 5,000 hours of live coverage throughout the Games, including all 329 medal events. Unveiled today at NBCUniversal’s One24 technology conference, Peacock’s extensive Olympics hub will feature curated rails of live and upcoming events, dedicated in-depth hubs for nearly 40 sports, medal standings and an interactive schedule. Peacock also unveiled two new features coming to the platform – Peacock Live Actions and Peacock Discovery Multiview – that will help fans discover and engage with the Olympics and other live programming in new, innovative ways.

“The Paris Olympics will mark another major milestone for Peacock’s leadership in live streaming with an unprecedented viewing experience that demonstrates our commitment to our customers, clients and partners,” said Kelly Campbell, President, Peacock and Direct-to-Consumer, NBCUniversal. “Following the Games, these new features will extend to other live events, joining the growing list of interactive elements and ad innovations that continue to set Peacock apart.”

Peacock Live Actions

Peacock Live Actions is a new interactive tool that lets fans choose their own viewing journey during live and primetime coverage, and follow the events they are most interested in watching.

Peacock Live Actions will come to life in programming like Gold Zone, the recently announced live whip-around show that will provide rolling coverage from 7am to 5pm ET, guiding viewers to the best and most exciting moments happening during the Paris Olympic Games. Through Peacock Live Actions on-screen prompts, fans watching Gold Zone will now be able to choose to continue watching the live feed of a specific event instead of staying with the Gold Zone coverage.

Peacock Live Actions will also allow viewers watching the NBC Primetime simulcast to add upcoming events to their “My Stuff” list to watch later.

Peacock Discovery Multiview

With up to 40 live events happening simultaneously, Peacock Discovery Multiview will offer an industry-first, enhanced four-view experience that helps users navigate to the most important events, with real-time on-screen descriptions from NBCU’s Olympic experts informing viewers about what is at stake, such as a medal event, an elimination risk or a first-time Olympian. In addition, a traditional Multiview experience featuring up to four matches on one screen will be available for sports such as soccer, track & field and wrestling.

Both Multiview options will allow users to move around the screens, switch the audio and click through to watch full screen and dive deeper into the action. Peacock will offer up to four Multiview options concurrently, giving fans the opportunity to choose what they are most excited to watch.

Peacock will be the first standalone streaming app to offer a Multiview experience across smart TVs, streaming devices, web browsers and tablets. Peacock will begin testing this feature during select events this spring.

Experience the Olympic Games Paris 2024 on Peacock

In addition to these new features, Peacock will provide fans with an intuitive, easy-to-navigate Olympics destination that will allow every kind of fan – both avid and casual – to view the Olympic Games in the way that best fits their interests or timetable. Features of Peacock’s Olympics hub include:

    • Spotlight of the biggest live events prominently displayed at the top of the screen when fans enter the Olympics hub.
    • A “Browse by Sport” rail to allow fans to quickly find all live events, highlights and replays for their favorite competitions. Fans can easily jump between different sports hubs through connected navigation at the top of their screens.
    • A new “Search by Star Athlete” feature, so fans can find live events or replays that include their favorite athletes, regardless of whether they are an individual competitor or part of a team sport. As in previous Olympics, fans can also search by sport, event and team, including country names and three-letter country codes.
    • An enhanced Interactive Schedule, so fans can plan their Olympics viewing day-by-day, join events live, watch replays or add events to their “My Stuff” to watch later.
    • Up-to-date Medal Standings sponsored by Delta for fans to keep track of every country competing in Paris.
    • Peacock’s award-winning “Catch Up with Key Plays,” which allows fans to easily access key moments when joining an in-progress game or revisit their favorite plays, will now be available for basketball and golf, in addition to soccer.
