Sunday MLB on TBS Continues September 7 with Royals vs. Yankees at 1:30 p.m. ET

Sunday MLB on TBS will continue September 7 with a matchup between the New York Yankees and Derek Jeter hosting the Kansas City Royals and Alex Gordon at 1:30 p.m. ET. Prior to the game at 1 p.m., TBS will present coverage of the Yankees’ special ceremony to honor the historic career of Jeter, the 14-time All-Star, five-time World Series Champion and long-time team captain. Shane Green (4-1) is scheduled to take the mound for New York against Kansas City probable starter Yordano Ventura (11-9). Ernie Johnson will be in the TBS broadcast booth providing play-by-play alongside analyst Ron Darling.

The upcoming Sunday MLB on TBS schedule will include the Detroit Tigers visiting the Cleveland Indians on September 14 at 1 p.m. The telecast will be seen locally throughout the Indians’ broadcast territory.

This season marks the first of Turner Sports’ new eight-year multimedia rights agreement with Major League Baseball that will extend the partnership to more than 40 years. As part of the new agreement, TBS has enhanced rights for its Sunday MLB on TBS game of the week with increased co-exist rights in the local markets. The network will also exclusively televise one Wild Card Game presented by Budweiser, two of the four Division Series with the MLB Division Series coverage on TBS presented by T-Mobile and one League Championship Series during the 2014 MLB Postseason.

Network’s 53-Game Regular Season Schedule to Showcase NBA’s Biggest Stars

with Multiple Appearances by League’s Top Teams

Turner Sports, entering its 31st consecutive year of NBA coverage, will feature a 53-game schedule during the 2014-15 NBA regular season including 10 appearances on TNT by the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls, nine appearances by the Los Angeles Clippers, L.A. Lakers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Golden State Warriors, seven appearances by the San Antonio Spurs and six appearances by the New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns.  TNT will televise 19 Thursday night NBA doubleheaders during the regular season.

TNT will tip off the 2014-15 NBA regular season with highly anticipated doubleheaders beginning with opening night coverage on Tuesday, Oct. 28, featuring the NBA Champion Spurs and Tim Duncan hosting the Dallas Mavericks and Dirk Nowitzki at 8 p.m. ET.  In the second game of the night, Los Angeles’ Kobe Bryant will mark his return from injury to lead the Lakers against former teammate Dwight Howard and the Houston Rockets at 10:30 p.m.

This year marks the 19th straight season the network has tipped off with two games on opening night. The network’s opening night coverage will also include San Antonio’s championship ring ceremony during a one-hour TNT NBA Tip-Off presented by AutoTrader.com pre-game show at 7 p.m.

The network’s blockbuster opening week schedule will continue with LeBron James’ season debut in Cleveland when the Cavs host the Knicks and Carmelo Anthony on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 8 p.m.  The night’s action will conclude with the Thunder and MVP award winner Kevin Durant visiting the Clippers and All-Stars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin at 10:30 p.m.

TNT will also televise a marquee doubleheader on Christmas (Thursday, Dec. 25) featuring the Bulls and Derrick Rose hosting the Lakers – with Chicago’s Pau Gasol and L.A.’s Carlos Boozer each facing their former teams – at 8 p.m., followed by the Warriors and “Splash Brothers” Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson visiting the Clippers at 10:30 p.m.

Special NBA coverage on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (Monday, Jan. 19) will feature the Bulls visiting the Cavaliers at 8 p.m., followed by the Phoenix Suns and Goran Dragic hosting the Lakers at 10:30 p.m.

 Darling on Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw: “Pedro Martinez was the last pitcher that I watched that every one of his pitches – fastball, curve and change-up – were the best in baseball. I think the same thing when I see Clayton Kershaw pitch. All three of his pitches are the best in the game right now.”

 

Anderson on Kershaw: “He has really evolved. He was really good to start and he has turned into something historically good at this point in his career.”

 

Ripken on the Dodgers losing shortstop Hanley Ramirez to injury: “They are going to miss their shortstop [Ramirez]. He’s a good two-way player, he’s a presence in the middle of the lineup and defensively as well. They are really going to miss his offense. He can carry a team all by himself.”

 

Darling on first baseman Adrian Gonzalez: “He might be one of the most underrated hitters in the game. He’s never mentioned when you talk about the great hitters in both leagues.”

 

Ripken on outfielder Carl Crawford: “He can do so many things to create havoc on the base paths and he’s got a lot of power. It would be nice to see him really get going.”
 

 

 Ripken on how the Brewers’ aggressive base running resulted in missed opportunities: “You want to be aggressive and move up [on the bases] but those were the mistakes that led to outs on the bases. That limits the opportunities against a pitcher like Clayton Kershaw.”

Darling on how teams try to create offense when facing dominant pitchers: “Teams facing pitchers like Kershaw try to think outside the box when they’re on the bases. They try to do everything they can to push the envelope to try to get some runs because it’s too difficult to put three or four hits together.”

Ripken on the Brewers feeling disappointed despite winning the series against the Dodgers: “The Brewers should be happy. They won two out of three against the Dodgers but they’re a little disappointed because they had their chances [against Kershaw]. They had guys in scoring position and they couldn’t capitalize. They could’ve beaten him today.”

Marquee Groups Highlight 96th PGA Championship Coverage on TNT and PGA.com, Aug. 7-10

PGA.com, Managed by Turner Sports, To Provide More Than 75 Hours of Live Original Video Content Via the Sports Emmy Award-Winning PGA Championship LIVE

Turner Sports’ comprehensive multimedia coverage of the 96th PGA Championship from Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville will include marquee coverage of some of the leading names in golf including past PGA Championship winners Rory McIlroy (2012) and Martin Kaymer (2010), along with Bubba Watson.

Additionally, if four-time PGA Championship winner Tiger Woods  (2007, 2006, 2000, 1999) is in the field, marquee group coverage will tee off Thursday, Aug. 7, at 8:35 a.m. ET with his pairing, also including 2005 winner Phil Mickelson and 2008 winner Padraig Harrington. Woods, Mickelson and Harrington would also be featured Friday, Aug. 8, at 1:45 p.m.

If Woods withdraws from the field, marquee group coverage will feature Adam Scott, Jordan Spieth and Lee Westwood on Thursday, Aug. 7, at 8:15 a.m. and Friday, Aug. 8, at 1:25 p.m.  The marquee group including McIlroy, Kaymer and Watson will be featured Thursday at 1:45 p.m. and Friday at 8:35 a.m.

Marquee groups for Saturday, Aug. 9, and Sunday, Aug. 10, will be determined following Friday’s action. Fans can follow the marquee groups and par-3 coverage via PGA.com and PGA Championship LIVE.

In addition to the live coverage of the marquee groups, TNT will televise 18 hours of exclusive live action from Valhalla including six hours each day on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 7-8, from 1-7 p.m., along with live coverage of the third and fourth rounds on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9-10, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

This marks the 24th consecutive year of Turner Sports’ coverage of the PGA Championship and TNT’s 16th straight year televising the event. Across TNT and PGA.com, Turner Sports will provide nearly 100 hours of original content from Valhalla. TNT commentators will include Sports Emmy Award-winning host Ernie Johnson, analysts Ian Baker-Finch and Billy Kratzert, with Vince Cellini handling pre- and post-round interviews.

With broader co-exist rights this season, the Sunday MLB on TBS telecast will be seen locally throughout the Royals’ broadcast territory. Kansas City’s Yordano Ventura and Boston’s Jon Lester are scheduled to take the mound as the probable starting pitchers. In the TBS broadcast booth, Brian Anderson will provide play-by-play with analyst Cal Ripken, Jr.

“The Royals are a really good, young team. I think they will hang around in the second half of the season and will be exciting to watch,” said TBS MLB analyst Cal Ripken. “I’m a little surprised by the Red Sox’s first half of the season but they are a good team and I expect them to have a strong second half.”

Upcoming match-ups on the Sunday MLB on TBS schedule will include the Toronto Blue Jays visiting the New York Yankees on July 27 at 1 p.m.

This season marks the first of Turner Sports’ new eight-year multimedia rights agreement with Major League Baseball that will extend the partnership to more than 40 years. As part of the new agreement, TBS will have enhanced rights for its Sunday MLB on TBS game of the week with increased co-exist rights in the local markets. The network will also exclusively televise one Wild Card Game presented by Budweiser, two of the four Division Series with the MLB Division Series coverage on TBS presented by T-Mobile and one League Championship Series during the 2014 MLB Postseason.

 Darling on determining if your team is a contender or a pretender: “The hardest part of the game for a general manager is trying to identify whether you’re a contender or a pretender. With the extra Wild Card [spot], every team that is .500 through the middle of August has a chance to make a run…but your eyes should tell you, if you haven’t made a run all year, it’s probably not going to happen.”

 

Darling on the recent Cubs/A’s trade: “That trade pushed the time for a lot of teams…when [Oakland general manager] Billy Beane made that deal, a lot of other general managers said, ‘The race is on.’”

Ripken on the Yankees this season: “Their expectations are high. The pitching staff has pitched pretty well to stay in ball games but the offense needs to start to get going. That’s why I’m optimistic [about them]…they’ll fix their offense.”

 

Ripken on Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran: “He’s been a significant player. He’s put up big numbers and you could make a case that’s he’s a Hall of Fame player.”

 

Darling on Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury: “He’s a five-tool player but he hasn’t had one of those monster years where he hits everything across the board.”

 
Darling on Twins outfielder Sam Fuld: “He is a highlight reel every single time he plays.”

 

Ripken on Twins outfielder Oswaldo Arcia: “He’s big and powerful and has a long swing. He almost has an ‘all or nothing’ mentality [at the plate]. These types of hitters are normally very streaky. When they have their timing mechanisms down, they’re on time. When they’re not, they’ll swing and miss at quite a few pitches.”

 

Darling on Twins second baseman Brian Dozier: “I like what I’ve seen defensively from Dozier. He makes good decisions. He’s got good range and a strong arm.”

 

Ripken on Dozier: “He makes the tough plays look easy.”

 
Darling on the Baltimore Orioles: “Baltimore is starting to play the kind of baseball they thought they’d play from the start. When Chris Davis is playing, they have one of the deepest lineups in all of baseball.”
