NFL Films And ‘Men In Blazers’ Partner to Tackle American Football

September 29, 2015 By admin

NFL Films, winner of over 120 Sports Emmys, teams up with the wildly popular ‘Men in Blazers’ for a digital video series exploring NFL football while going in-depth with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills

“Men in Blazers: Tackle Football – Countdown to London, October 25th” premieres today on Yahoo with additional distribution across NFL Media properties

September 29, 2015: NFL Films, one of the most decorated and accomplished producers of sports television, announced today a partnership with the irreverent sensibility of the ‘Men in Blazers,’ Michael Davies and Roger Bennett, to develop a new digital video series, Men in Blazers: Tackle Football – Countdown to London, October 25th. The new series premieres today on Yahoo, which reaches more than 1 billion users, with additional distribution across NFL Media digital channels, as well as NFL Network. With approximately 30 episodes in total, Men in Blazers: Tackle Football – Countdown to London, October 25th will release a new episode daily until October 27th.

Men in Blazers: Tackle Football will go behind the scenes and in-depth with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills as the two franchises prepare to kick off a new era of sports programming with their October 25th game in London’s Wembley Stadium which will be streamed live to a global audience on Yahoo sites and apps. In a move media analysts are calling a “milestone event,” the October 25th game in London between the Jaguars and Bills represents the first time ever an NFL game has been streamed for free around the world as its primary mode of distribution.

Using a style that has gained Davies and Bennett a cult-like following and large social presence, Men in Blazers: Tackle Football will provide a unique and unprecedented look at both the Jaguars and Bills. With NFL Films as their escort, Davies and Bennett will interview key members of both organizations—from ownership to equipment managers and everyone in between— utilizing their keen wit and intelligence as they explore the world of professional football in the United States.

“Combining the storytelling and access of NFL Films with the wit and intelligence of the Men in Blazers is a match made in sports production heaven,” said NFL Films coordinating producer Keith Cossrow. “The beneficiary of this collaboration will, of course, be the viewer who will get a whole different take on American Football, the NFL, Buffalo, Jacksonville and their respective franchises. It will be an entertaining ride.”

“We have both been fascinated by the NFL since we were kids in England,” said Bennett. “Davo watched Montana battle Marino in Super Bowl XIX.  I fell in love with the Jim McMahon Bears in their Super Bowl winning season, and became so obsessed, I flew out to Chicago to meet the team in the wake of their triumph.”

“When the NFL schedule comes out, most fans ring the dates the Cowboys play Washington, or the Ravens play the Steelers, our eyes immediately look to see who is going to travel to Wembley,” added Davies.  “We are always fascinated to see which NFL teams will be sent to grow the sport in our home country.  Those London games are our ‘Super Bowls’.”

Beginning today and running through Tuesday, October 27, a new episode of Men in Blazers: Tackle Football will premiere each day on Yahoo including the Yahoo Sports homepage, the Yahoo Sports NFL page and Yahoo’s destination site for its global live stream of the October 25 game. Men in Blazers: Tackle Football will conclude in London with Davies and Bennett providing their thoughts and reaction to the game between the Jaguars and Bills.

Following the premiere of each episode on Yahoo, segments from Men in Blazers: Tackle Football will be distributed across all NFL Media digital channels, including NFL.com, NFL Mobile from Verizon and NFL Now, as well as NFL Network.  Full-length interviews will also appear on the Men in Blazers podcast.

The one-hour documentary, produced by NFL Films features interviews with Okoye, family members, teammates, coaches, opponents and others.

Following the premiere of Christian Okoye: A Football Life on NFL Network, the episode – along with the entire A Football Life series – will be available on NFL Now. For 2015, NFL Now showcases a new virtual “network” of digital programming that runs 24-7 (live and on-demand) while giving fans the choice to select a “channel” that delivers only content from their favorite NFL club. Born in Nigeria, Okoye left his home to attend university in the United States and train for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. A shot put, discus and hammer thrower by trade, Okoye turned his attention away from track after being omitted from the Nigerian national team for the games. He joined the Azusa Pacific football team as running back, and after playing for just three years he was drafted by the Chiefs in 1987. His sheer size combined with his unmatched speed enabled him to lead the NFL in rushing in 1989 and be inducted into the Chiefs’ Hall of Fame in 2000.

Among the topics discussed in Christian Okoye: A Football Life are:

  • His relationship with his father, family and community in Nigeria
  • Moving to the United States to pursue his passion for Track & Field
  • Not being selected to participate in the Olympics
  • Learning the game of football at Azusa Pacific University
  • His successful career with the Kansas City Chiefs
  • His community service, giving back to combat veterans and work with Impact A Hero
  • His inspirational story for countless other Nigerian-descent NFL players

Irv Eatman – Former Chiefs tackle

Bill Kenney – Former Chiefs quarterback

– “My hands, they don’t do a handshake real well because of the burns. So I always throw my hand out for a fist pound and he never gives me a fist pound. He gives me a big hug.” – Rick Yarish

– “I said, ‘Okoye, you’re every defensive backs worst nightmare.’ Irv Eatman, our starting left tackle jumped up and said ‘Yeah, the Nigerian Nightmare’ and that’s where it stuck.” – Bill Kenney

– “For a lot of people, if they’re watching a sport and they don’t know anybody or if they don’t know much about the sport it’s hard for them to be attached to it. But with Christian Okoye, you saw somebody that you were familiar with so you could become a fan of that team or that sport.” – Johnson Bademosi

– “He is the only guy I can ever remember seeing players as they got ready to tackle him put their heads behind him so that they didn’t have to endure the blow that was forthcoming as he was making the finish to a run” – Marty Schottenheimer

– “You just look at the league today, at one point just on my team we had seven Nigerian guys. Hopefully not only myself but all my other peers and the guys behind us, the players who are still to come, will continue to follow the leadership of guys like Christian. Thank you Christian for trailblazing and leading the way.” – Israel Idonije

Football Town

New for 2015, NFL Network introduces Football Town, a series which will explore small towns and cities where football is much more than a sport – it’s the thread that weaves the community together. The subject for the first season premiering Tuesday, September 22 at 9:00 PM ET is Barrow, Alaska and the Barrow High School football team.

Football Town: Barrow, Alaska is an eight-episode cinematic docu-series that will follow the incredible journey of the Barrow High School Whalers, who live at the northernmost point in the United States, as they attempt to win the state championship for the first time in school history. Following the premiere episode on September 22, Football Town: Barrow, Alaska will air Tuesdays at 8:30 PM ET on NFL Network, with a special encore presentation of each episode every Thursday following the Thursday Night Football postgame show.

320 miles north of the Arctic Circle, the Barrow High School Whalers play on a blue turf football field located on a narrow peninsula between the Arctic Ocean and a frozen lagoon. Despite never having experienced the Friday night lights of the lower 48 states, the Barrow High School team lives for football. Over the past 10 years in Barrow, football has been something for the small Native American community of 4,000 people to rally around and believe in. With no highway roads in or out of Barrow – and with the closest opponent 500 miles away – the team must fly to every away game.

Football Town: Barrow, Alaska is co-produced by NFL Network in association with Leftfield Pictures (Pawn Stars, Alone) and Northern Lights Media.

September 2, 2015 By admin

TE Rob Gronkowski, WR Julian Edelman & DB Devin McCourty Interviewed

Actor Chris Evans Narrates

September 2, 2015: Following a 41-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football, the New England Patriots fell to 2-2 on the year and caused many to raise doubts about the team, their quarterback and their aspirations for the 2014 season. Yet with a simple mindset – “on to Cincinnati” – the Patriots would win 13 of their remaining 15 games, defeat the defending Super Bowl-champion Seattle Seahawks and bring a fourth Lombardi Trophy to Foxboro.

America’s Game: 2014 Patriots debuts on Tuesday, September 8 at 10:00 PM ET, two nights before the Patriots kick off the 2015 regular season at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers. For the show, tight end Rob Gronkowski, wide receiver Julian Edelman and defensive back Devin McCourty tell the story of the 2014 Patriots in their own words. Additionally, the hour-long special features wired sound from the Patriots’ games throughout the season and footage from team practices in Arizona leading up to Super Bowl XLIX, offering an all-access look at the Super Bowl champions.

Actor and Boston native, Chris Evans lends his voice to this year’s edition.

Below is a sampling of quotes from America’s Game: 2014 Patriots:

– “I thought it was a great press conference: on to Cincinnati it was. Who wanted to talk about that Kansas City game? We just got blown out on Monday Night Football…So on to Cincinnati couldn’t have been any better answer.” – Rob Gronkowski on Patriots head coach Bill Belichick’s “on to Cincinnati” press conference

– “That really challenged the character of a team that had so many new pieces that we didn’t really know how we would react as a team.” – Devin McCourty on the Week 4 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs

– “You have one of the best quarterbacks – probably the best quarterback – of all-time. It’s just kind of ridiculous that people jump off that bandwagon, and I hope they keep on doing it because it just fires him up. He’s that kind of guy. So all of the people out there that do that, keep it coming. He likes that stuff.” – Julian Edelman on the blame Patriots quarterback Tom Brady received for the team’s 2-2 start

– “It just showed alright this guy is back. He’s the Gronk. The Gronk is here.” – Edelman on Rob Gronkowski’s performance against the Cincinnati Bengals

– “I hated Julian. He was that guy in practice that no matter what the tempo was, he was going to go 100 miles an hour. I think the competitive nature that he brings is the reason why he’s so good. I think he kind of encourages everyone around him to play harder. There is no guy you root for harder on a Sunday after covering him all week.” – McCourty on Julian Edelman

– “We put it in that week. It was just kind of one of those things where I think we saw a college team do it. It worked. It made those guys a little boggled with what was going on.” – Edelman on the Patriots’ exotic formations against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Divisional Round game

– “AFC Championships are fun but AFC Championship rings suck. So let’s kind of ante up, let’s get ready because it’s going to take our all to beat this next team.” – Edelman on defeating the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship Game to advance to Super Bowl XLIX

– “Coach [Bill] Belichick comes over and he says, ‘Just do your job.’ I think it just re-focused us and we just made plays after that.” – McCourty on trailing 24-14 entering the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLIX

– “Not this again. The Giants, the helmet catch, then the sideline. Now this catch.” – Edelman on Jermaine Kearse’s catch in Super Bowl XLIX

America’s Game, an Emmy Award-winning series, delves deep into the story behind the making of Super Bowl champions. Each episode is a 60-minute documentary in high definition, featuring key members of the winning team telling behind-the-scenes accounts from their championship season. With the signature NFL Films footage, combined with news clips and photos, highlights from team radio broadcasts, inside looks from team meeting rooms, sideline audio and other exclusive features, America’s Game provides an epic and intimate portrait of championship teams.
