Richardson headlines the 200m field in what will be her 2024 outdoor debut after a breakout 2023 season that saw her capture three medals at her first-ever World Championships (1st – 100m, 1st – 4x100m gold, 3rd – 200m bronze). Lyles to Call Men’s 200m Final in the Broadcasters’ Booth on Sunday at 5:36 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock

STAMFORD, Conn. – Sept. 14, 2023 – Noah Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson – the fastest man and woman in the world – headline NBC Sports’ presentation of the 2023 Diamond League Final, doubly serving as the Prefontaine Classic this year, which will be held for the first time ever on U.S. soil at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore., this weekend.

Live coverage begins this Saturday, Sept. 16, at 3 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock, with Day Two of competition beginning on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 3 p.m. ET on CNBC and Peacock before switching to NBC at 4 p.m. ET.

Lyles is finishing a historic season that saw him become the first athlete since Usain Bolt in 2015 to win the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m at a single World Championships when he swept all three events in Budapest last month. A four-time Diamond League champion in the 200m, the reigning 100m world champion will be going for his first DL title in the 100m since 2019. He is expected to compete against 2023 world 100m silver medalist Letsile Tobogo (Botswana) and 2019 100m world champion Christian Coleman.

Lyles will be doing more than competing this weekend. On Sunday, the three-time 200m world champion will call the men’s 200m final from the broadcasters’ booth alongside four-time Olympic medalist Ato Boldon and play-by-play announcer Paul Swangard. The 200m final, featuring 2023 world 200m silver medalist Erriyon Knighton, is scheduled to go off at 5:36 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.

Richardson, who defeated a competitive field featuring the Jamaican duo of Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (who have 14 world titles between them) to win the 100m at the 2023 World Track & Field Championships, looks to win her first Diamond League title in her signature event. Richardson also earned the gold medal in the 4x100m and the bronze in the 200m to cap off her first World Championships. She is expected to face off against Jackson and five-time Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah (Jamaica)

Additional U.S. stars expected to compete include two-time shot put world champion and world record holder Ryan Crouser, who won the world title in August despite competing with two blood clots in one of his legs, three-time 110m hurdles world champion Grant Holloway, two-time pole vault world champion Katie Moon, 2023 world 400m hurdles silver medalist Shamier Little, and 2023 U.S. 1500m champion Yared Nuguse.

Additionally, 2023 800m world bronze medalist Athing Mu is slated to race this year’s world champion, Mary Moraa (Kenya), and silver medalist, Keely Hodgkinson (Great Britain), in a rematch of this year’s 800m world championship final.

A slew of 2023 international world champions are expected to compete in Eugene this weekend, including reigning 1500m/5,000m world champion and world record holder Faith Kipyegon (Kenya), two-time reigning 200m world champion Shericka Jackson (Jamaica), who has stated she will be attempting to break Florence Griffith-Joyner’s 200m world record from 1988, 2023 400m hurdles world champion Femke Bol (Netherlands), and two-time 5,000m world champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who is slated to race the famed Bowerman Mile as well as the 3,000m, where he will line up against three-time 10,000m world champion Joshua Cheptegei (Uganda) and 2022 U.S. 5,000m champion Grant Fisher.

NBC Sports’ Paul Swangard will call the event, joined by four-time Olympic medalist Ato Boldon, two-time Olympian Kara Goucher, and 2012 London Olympic decathlon silver medalist Trey Hardee. Lewis Johnson serves as reporter.

UNTITLED: THE NOAH LYLES PROJECT

This Friday, Sept. 15, the second and final episode of NBC Sports’ docuseries, Untitled: The Noah Lyles Project, will premiere on Peacock and the NBC Sports YouTube channel. The new installment will take a behind-the-scenes look with unprecedented access at Lyles’ historic performance at the 2023 World Track & Field Championships in Budapest, where he won the world title in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay, establishing himself as the world’s fastest man as he enters 2024 and embarks upon his quest to win his first Olympic gold medal in Paris.

Click here for a preview of Episode Two, in which Lyles discusses his mental preparation for the 200m semifinal at the World Track & Field Championships, as well as the infamous golf cart collision that happened right before that 200m semifinal.

Episode One, which premiered in August and takes a behind-the-scenes look at the first half of Lyles’ 2023 outdoor season, is currently available on Peacock and the NBC Sports YouTube channel.

STAMFORD, Conn. – July 19, 2023 – Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Noah Lyles, Sha’Carri Richardson, Gabby Thomas and more headline NBC Sports’ coverage of Diamond League meets from Monaco and London this weekend, with all coverage streaming live on Peacock.

MONACO

Reigning Olympic and world 400m hurdles champion McLaughlin-Levrone and two-time Tokyo Olympic medalist sprinter Thomas headline live coverage of the Diamond League in Monaco this Friday, July 21, at 2 p.m. ET on Peacock from the famed Stade Louis-II.

Coming off a national title in the 400m at the USATF Outdoor Championships earlier this month, McLaughlin-Levrone is expected to run the same event this Friday in Monaco. Her world-leading time of 48.74 at the national championships placed her second on the U.S. all-time list, trailing only the national record of 48.70, set by NBC Sports analyst Sanya Richards-Ross in 2006. Thomas, who won the U.S. 200m championship in a world-leading time of 21.60 earlier this month, is set to race her signature distance in Monaco, where she will face reigning 200m world champion Shericka Jackson (Jamaica).

The most anticipated race of the meet may be the men’s 400m hurdles in what is set to be a rematch of the historic Tokyo Olympic final between Karsten Warholm (Norway), Rai Benjamin (United States), and Alison dos Santos (Brazil), when gold medalist Warholm and silver medalist Benjamin both broke the previous world record along with bronze medalist dos Santos dipping under the previous Olympic record. This is the first time since that race in 2021 that all three athletes will face each other in the same race.

Multiple Olympians are set to compete in Monaco this weekend, including newly minted 1500m and 5000m world record holder Faith Kipyegon (Kenya), reigning Olympic and world pole vault champion Mondo Duplantis (Sweden), two-time Olympic triple jump champion Christian Taylor, and reigning Olympic and world steeplechase champion Soufiane El Bakkali (Morocco).

2022 100m World Champion Kerley Looking to Win Second Consecutive Diamond League 100m Race

Grant Holloway, Gabby Thomas, Joe Kovacs, Devon Allen, Abby Steiner All Expected to Compete This Week in Florence

STAMFORD, Conn. – June 1, 2023 – Reigning 100m world champion Fred Kerley headlines NBC Sports’ presentation of the Diamond League meet in Florence, Italy this Friday, June 2, at 2 p.m. ET on Peacock from Stadio Luigi Ridolfi. Kerley, who is competing in the 100m, was originally supposed to race Tokyo Olympic 100m champion Marcell Jacobs before the global medalist was forced to withdraw from both last week’s Diamond League Rabat meet and this week’s Florence meet due to injury.

Kerley won last week’s Rabat Diamond League 100m in a meet record 9.94 seconds, beating African record holder Ferdinand Omanyala (10.05) and fellow U.S. Olympian Trayvon Bromell (10.10) in the process. Kerley will look to keep his hot streak going in Florence, where he’s expected to face the silver and bronze medalists from last year’s 100m world championship race, Marvin Bracy-Williams and Bromell.

Two-time Olympic medalist and 2022 200m world bronze medalist Dina Asher-Smith (Great Britain) will square off against a competitive U.S. sprinting cohort including two-time Tokyo Olympic medalist Gabby Thomas and two-time 2022 World Championship medalist Abby Steiner in the 100m. Three-time world championship medalist Marie-Josée Ta Lou (Ivory Coast) is also expected to toe the line.

Two-time Olympic 110m hurdler Devon Allen, who spent the last year on the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad as a wide receiver, ran 13.25 in Rabat last week and is expected to compete in Florence alongside two-time 110m hurdles world champion Grant Holloway. Two-time shot put world champion Joe Kovacs, American 5000m record holder Grant Fisher, Tokyo Olympic and 2022 world champion pole vaulter Katie Moon, Tokyo Olympic discus champion Valarie Allman, and 2022 200m world bronze medalist Erriyon Knighton are among the many U.S. stars expected to compete tomorrow.

On the international side, two-time Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon (Kenya), 5000m and 10,000m world record holder Joshua Cheptegei (Uganda), 2022 400m hurdles world silver medalist Femke Bol (Netherlands), and Tokyo Olympic 10,000m champion Selemon Barega (Ethiopia) are all expected to compete.

NBC Sports’ Paul Swangard will call the event, joined by four-time Olympic medalist Ato Boldon and three-time U.S. National Team member Josh Cox.

BATTLE OF THE WORLD’S FASTEST MEN: MARCELL JACOBS VS. FRED KERLEY THIS SUN., MAY 28, AT 2 P.M. ET LIVE ON PEACOCK AND CNBC

May 25, 2023 By admin

The Most Anticipated 100m Race of the Season at Rabat Diamond League Meet: Tokyo Olympic 100m Champion Marcell Jacobs vs. 2022 100m World Champion Fred Kerley in First Head-to-Head Matchup Since Tokyo Olympics

NBC Sports’ Track & Field Coverage Begins this Weekend with Los Angeles Grand Prix on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET Live on NBC and Peacock, Featuring Sha’Carri Richardson, Ryan Crouser, Gabby Thomas, Mondo Duplantis, and More

STAMFORD, Conn. – May 25, 2023 – The title of “World’s Fastest Man” will be on the line when two 100m champions and rivals – Tokyo Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs (Italy) and 2022 world champion Fred Kerley (USA) – race head-to-head in their signature distance for the first time since the Tokyo Olympic 100m final at the Rabat Diamond League meet this Sunday, May 28, at 2 p.m. ET on Peacock and CNBC. The 100m showdown headlines a full weekend of NBC Sports’ track & field coverage.

Sunday will mark the first time that the reigning Olympic gold medalist and reigning world champion in the men’s 100m have faced each other since the 2012 London Olympic final, which featured world record holder Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake, both from Jamaica.

Jacobs, who at the Tokyo Olympics became the first Italian to win the gold medal in the 100m, raced sparingly last outdoor season due to leg injuries and withdrew from the 2022 World Championships before the semifinals. Kerley, after earning silver in the 100m in Tokyo, lowered his personal best to 9.76 and led a U.S. men’s sweep in the 100m at the 2022 World Championships, winning his first individual world title.

Since then, their rivalry has only intensified. In a podcast interview in March, when asked if he thought Jacobs was “a real dog,” Kerley responded, “I don’t think so. I’m just going to be truthful.” Jacobs responded with a pointed Instagram story of him edging Kerley at the Tokyo Olympic 100m finish line, with the caption, “Whenever you want and wherever you want, but remember that when it mattered more it ended like this.”

Joining Jacobs and Kerley in the 100m is 2022 100m world bronze medalist Trayvon Bromell (USA), four-time Olympic medalist Yohan Blake (Jamaica), and African 100m record holder and current 100m world leader Ferdinand Omanyala (Kenya). Other notable athletes expected to compete in Rabat include two-time Olympic champion Dalilah Muhammad, two-time 110m hurdles world champion Grant Holloway, 2022 200m world champion Shericka Jackson (Jamaica), and Tokyo Olympic 1500m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen (Norway), who is set to face rising U.S. star Yared Nuguse in the 1500m.

NBC Sports’ Paul Swangard will call the event, joined by four-time Olympic medalist Ato Boldon.

U.S. sprinting star Sha’Carri Richardson has been on a tear to start her outdoor campaign this season, winning the Doha Diamond League 100m on May 5 and beating the last two 200m world champions in the process. She followed up that performance with a meet-record 22.07 in the 200m at the Kip Keino Classic in Kenya last week. Richardson, entered in the 100m this weekend, is expected to face U.S. 60m record holder Aleia Hobbs and three-time world medalist Marie-Josée Ta Lou (Ivory Coast).

An elite crew of Olympians are expected to compete in L.A. this weekend, including Tokyo Olympic pole vault champion and world record holder Mondo Duplantis (Sweden), two-time Olympic shot put champion and world record holder Ryan Crouser, two-time Olympic medalist Gabby Thomas, Tokyo Olympic pole vault champion Katie Moon, Rio Olympic 1500m champion Matthew Centrowitz, world 100m hurdles champion and world record holder Tobi Amusan (Nigeria), and many more.
