ENGLEMANN (STANFORD), FONTENOT (GEORGIA TECH) WIN INDIVIDUAL STROKE PLAY AT 2023 EAST LAKE CUP

October 31, 2023 By admin

Stanford (Women), Florida State (Men) Claim No. 1 Seeds for Team

Match Play Semifinals (Tuesday, 3-6 P.M. ET on GOLF Channel)

Women’s Semis: (1) Stanford vs. (4) Texas A&M; (2) Wake Forest vs. (3) Southern California

Men’s Semis: (1) Florida State vs. (4) Florida; (2) North Carolina vs. (3) Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, (Oct. 30, 2023) – Stanford senior Sadie Englemann fired a 3-under-par 69 to claim women’s medalist honors at the ninth annual East Lake Cup in Atlanta. Georgia Tech freshman Kale Fontenot earned the men’s individual crown with a 4-under 68.

Englemann followed up an even par front nine, that included one birdie and one bogey, with a flurry of three consecutive birdies to start her inward march en route to a 3-under-par 69 at Atlanta Athletic Club and finish atop the women’s division, two shots better than her closest competitor.

“I came into today with a really good mindset, I was really excited to play,” said Englemann. “I really saw the course yesterday; it fits my eye pretty well. I kind of struggled last week in a tournament so I came in with a new mindset this week of just trying to hit the center of the greens and hit the fairways. I got a couple putts to fall, and I got a round together.”

On the men’s side, Fontenot got off to a birdie, birdie start and then added four more birdies along with two bogeys to grab the clubhouse lead. North Carolina’s David and Maxwell Ford got to within one shot of the lead but couldn’t match Fontenot’s 4-under as he claimed the first individual title of his collegiate career.

“The course is great,” said Fontenot “It’s in such good condition. It’s tough, you have to hit it straight and make a lot of putts out here. It’s great.”
