Street League Skateboarding Partners with FOX Sports

March 6, 2014 By admin

fox-sports-1-logoFOX Sports 1 inks three-year deal to broadcast world’s premier skateboard contest series

LOS ANGELES – FOX Sports 1 and Street League Skateboarding (SLS) are proud to announce a new multi-year partnership that includes live broadcasts of the world’s premier skateboarding contest series on FOX Sports 1 and global distribution through the FOX family of networks. Street League, founded by 20-year professional skateboarder, entrepreneur and TV personality Rob Dyrdek in 2010, features only the sport’s elite and biggest stars as they compete in an easy-to-follow contest format for street skateboarding. The 2014 SLS World Tour includes nationwide stops with dates and locations to be announced soon.

“I’m thrilled to bring Street League to FOX Sports,” says SLS Founder Rob Dyrdek. “Not only am I a fan of what they are doing with other key properties on the FOX Sports 1 network, but to have a media partner that truly believes in skateboarding as a stand-alone sport poised for long-term growth means the world to our business and the ability to grow the Street League audience globally.”

“Rob is a force of nature,” says Michael Bloom, SVP, Original Programming at FOX Sports. “His dedication to growing the sport is clearly evident in Street League. He delivers exciting contests, events and television that captivate both core skateboarders and casual viewers from beginning to end. Thanks to the innovative, easy-to-follow format and instant scoring, these contests and this programming delivers great athletic performances and thrilling finishes that have become instant classics — whether you skateboard or not. We’re excited to be partners with Rob and Street League Skateboarding and have them featured on Fox Sports 1.”

“I’m psyched on this new partnership with FOX Sports 1,” says Chris Cole, 2013 SLS Champion. “Not only is it an awesome opportunity for Street League and all the pros, but it brings the best skateboard series to a new network with a huge platform. FOX Sports believes in the long-term growth for the sport and that is our biggest goal. It’s a win for everyone involved.”

The 2014 SLS Pro Tour features the 22 most prolific street skaters in the world including 2013 Champion Chris Cole, 2010 and 2012 Champion Nyjah Huston, 2011 Champion Sean Malto, as

well as other notable superstars like Ryan Sheckler and Paul Rodriguez. These pros battle it out for the most respected title in skateboarding and the largest prize purse in the sport, in world-renowned arenas transformed into custom concrete skate plazas. Each course is a unique masterpiece designed to challenge the world’s top skateboarders and showcase the continuous progression of the sport.

The winners of the first two events receive a guaranteed “Golden Ticket” spot in the Super Crown World Championship. Taking place in August 2014, the Super Crown is by far the most elite skate competition in the world: only eight pros qualify for the final event of the series, and only one can claim the title of 2014 Super Crown World Champion. The title includes a Game-7-style, winner-takes-all format for the biggest prize in skateboarding history: $200,000 and a custom gold-and-diamond championship watch and ring set. NASCAR on FOX, FOX Sports 1 & FOX Sports 2 from Las Vegas Motor Speedway

March 6, 2014 By admin

NASCAR_on_FOXFollowing a dominating win by Kevin Harvick at Phoenix International Raceway last week in only his second start for Stewart-Haas Racing, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the season’s third race, live on FOX on Sunday, March 9 (3:00 PM ET) with pre-race coverage beginning at 2:30 PM ET.  Mike Joy leads the NASCAR on FOX booth with analysis from NASCAR Hall of Famer Darrell Waltrip and former crew chief Larry McReynolds.  Chris Myers hosts with analysis from Michael Waltrip and pit reports from Steve Byrnes, Jeff Hammond, Krista Voda and Matt Yocum.

FOX Sports 1’s NASCAR RACEDAY (1:30 PM ET) kicks off Sunday’s coverage, immediately followed by network pre-race coverage on FOX NASCAR SUNDAY (2:30 PM ET).  FOX Deportes telecasts the race live beginning at 3:00 PM ET, while FOX Sports GO, the app that provides live streaming video of FOX Sports content, offers live streaming of the race, as well as all practice and qualifying sessions telecast on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2.   Customers of participating video providers may access the live streams of the race through the FOX Sports GO app for iOS devices, as well as on desktops through FOXSportsGO.com.

FOX Sports 1 features live coverage of NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES and NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES practice and qualifying sessions from Las Vegas on Friday, while FOX Sports 2 picks up on Saturday. Sunday’s NASCAR VICTORY LANE on FOX Sports 1 features complete post-race interviews and analysis of the day’s pivotal moments.

Below are quotes from NASCAR on FOX analysts Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds on the week’s headlines:

DARRELL WALTRIP ON KURT BUSCH RUNNING THE INDY/CHARLOTTE DOUBLE:

“What I particularly like about Kurt is his willingness to step outside the box and take chances; do something different.  He had his own drag car, which he’d always wanted to do.  That was a great experience for him.  Indy cars are intriguing to all of us.  Even back in my driving days, there were drivers who did both Indy and NASCAR — the Allisons and Cale (Yarborough) — but it never appealed to me because the cars were dangerous and scared me a bit.  I like Kurt’s willingness to take chances.  That’s how he is on the track and how his whole life has been.  He’s willing to take chances and put it all on the line.  It’s a big risk, but it could be a big reward.”

LARRY MCREYNOLDS ON VARIETY OF TRACKS IN THE FIRST FIVE NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES RACES & WHEN TEAMS CAN TAKE STOCK OF THEIR PERFORMANCE: “Our first five races are run on five completely different types of tracks.  Normally after we’ve been to these first five races, regardless of the rules package, we have a pretty good measure of who is in trouble and who is in good shape in the garage.  The teams know this.  Teams and drivers can’t control some things, such as wrecks and engine failures, but as far as sheer performance is concerned, if teams perform well and leave Fontana with good performance across the board in the fifth race, they can assume they’re in pretty good shape moving ahead through the season.”

DARRELL WALTRIP ON STEWART-HAAS RACING’S 2014 START:

“It doesn’t surprise me Kevin Harvick and Rodney Childers have had success so fast. Rodney is smart and a racer; he has driven before, so he understands the car and what a driver needs.  He’s laidback where Kevin can be high strung at times.  Tony Stewart has a new crew chief and has been trying to compete injured, which is hard. I haven’t seen it visibly affect him yet, but having been hurt myself, it’s a huge distraction, although you can drive through it.  He’s not 100 percent yet.  I can’t assess Danica.  I hope we haven’t seen the best of her, but when drivers come in with high expectations and perceived potential but don’t live up to that immediately, sometimes they never do.  She’s had some bad luck but most of that is because of where she has been running.  She is off to a shaky start and needs something good to happen to boost her confidence.”
