College Football on Fox Deportes Makes U.S. Latino Media History

August 28, 2012 By admin

17-Game Schedule is Most Aired by Any U.S. Latino Media Network

Live Coverage Includes Pac-12 Championship Game,

Big Ten Championship Game & AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic

LOS ANGELES — FOX Deportes, the No. 1 U.S. Latino sports network, makes history by broadening its program offerings with the addition of the incredibly popular American sport of college football to its telecast schedule.  The announcement was made today by Vincent Cordero, Executive Vice President & General Manager, FOX Deportes.  The network’s coverage of 17 games is the most-ever carried in one season in the history of U.S. Latino media, and none have been televised on FOX Deportes since 1996.

The addition of major college football to FOX Deportes comes just a week after the network announced its plans to carry 15 NASCAR Sprint Cup races next season, including, for the first time ever, live Spanish-language coverage of the storied Daytona 500.

“We are thrilled to work with the Big 12 and Pac-12, and proud to expand our event portfolio by offering the biggest sports brands that reflect and serve today’s U.S. Latino,” said Cordero.  “U.S. Latinos are the New Face of America, representing the largest minority at our nation’s colleges, with 2.1 million students enrolled.  Latinos comprise 74% of the growth in total U.S. collegiate enrollment since 2010.”

FOX Deportes is set to present 14 regular-season college football games live in Spanish, primarily from the Pac-12 or Big 12 conferences, plus the Pac-12 and Big Ten Football Championship games and the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic, one of the oldest and most respected of all bowl games, in January.  First up is Hawai’i at No. 1 USC on Saturday, Sept. 1, live from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (7:30 PM ET/4:30 PM PT).  Other early season match-ups announced today are Miami (FL) vs. K-State on Saturday, Sept. 8 (12:00 PM ET/9:00 AM PT) and USC at Stanford on Saturday, Sept. 15 (7:30 PM ET/4:30 PM PT). Calling the gridiron action for FOX Deportes are veteran broadcasters Pablo Alsina and Francisco Rivera.

“The Big 12 is proud of its long-standing partnership with FOX Sports Media Group, and we welcome the opportunity this increased exposure will have in expanding and energizing the fan base of Big 12 football,” commented Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby.  “Our member institutions will benefit from the exposure FOX Deportes will provide their football programs and universities to this tremendously significant demographic nationwide.”

“We are pleased that FOX Deportes will be showcasing our exciting brand of Pac-12 football this season,” said Larry Scott, Commissioner of the Pac-12.  “FOX Deportes is a leader in Spanish-language sports media and offers us a valuable national cable platform that reaches new fans in new places around the country.”

In addition to the 14 regular-season and three postseason telecasts, FOX Deportes is producing four original half-hour programs in anticipation of the 2012 season to introduce America’s Spanish-speaking audience to college football’s long and storied history, teams and highlight who to watch as the season unfolds.  Three of the programs have already aired, one a week since Aug. 11, however the final show, a season preview, COLLEGE FOOTBALL ON FOX DEPORTES – KICKOFF, airs on Friday, Aug. 31 (9:30 PM ET).

‘Chasing the Dream’ Takes Exclusive Journey with Professional Golfers Robbie Biershenk and Chris Anderson

Tuesday Nights at 10 p.m. ET This Fall, Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 2 Following ‘Big Break Greenbrier’

Series Premieres Tuesday Oct. 2 at 10 p.m.

Video Promo: Chasing the Dream Series Promo

ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 27, 2012 – Chasing the Dream, a nine-part Golf Channel series premiering Tuesday, Oct. 2, will chronicle the stories of two men from opposite sides of the country and opposite sides of life as they attempt to realize their dream of competing on the PGA TOUR.

For professional golfers Chris Anderson and Robbie Biershenk, the quest to make it to the big leagues of golf is filled with professional and personal sacrifices, highs and lows, successes and failures. Anderson, 41, from Yorba Linda, Calif., has tasted success in professional golf and is looking to resurrect a once-promising career, highlighted by two stints on the PGA TOUR in 2003 and 2005 and a victory on the Web.com Tour (formerly Nationwide Tour) in 2004. Biershenk, 35, owner of Shank’s Driving Range in Greenville, S.C. and a former competitor on Golf Channel’s popular Big Break series, has set a goal to join his older brother Tommy on the PGA TOUR. Their stories are not the same, but they have the same dream – to walk the fairways among the game’s elite players.

Throughout the 2012 golf season, Golf Channel cameras have captured the personal and professional journeys of Anderson and Biershenk, both on and off the golf course. Through unique storytelling, each episode of Chasing the Dream will provide an intimate look at the sacrifice of each man as he pursues his dream. Actor James Remar, best known for his roles in Sex and the City and Dexter, provides the narration for the series.

“Athletes all over the world spend a lifetime sacrificing for a very slim chance at a brief moment of glory. Chasing the Dream will give viewers an up-close look at the ups and downs that Robbie, Chris, their friends and families have been willing to endure in order for them to chase their ultimate dream of playing on the PGA TOUR,” said Golf Channel President Mike McCarley. “Through the use of unique storytelling NBC has made famous at the Olympics, the quests of these two men will resonate not only with golfers, but also with anyone who has to sacrifice to pursue their own dream.”

Biershenk is a real-life “Tin Cup” story, referring to the 1996 movie starring Kevin Costner as a driving range pro who attempts to fulfill his golf potential by qualifying for the U.S. Open. Biershenk took ownership of a decrepit driving range six years ago, and is attempting to turn it around to be one of the top golf practice ranges in South Carolina. But the range is just a means to the end; ultimately, he is hoping to realize his potential as a golfer and make it on tour. An accomplished junior golfer, he admits he made some bad decisions early on that sidetracked his golf career.

“I had a very successful junior career, but I took a left when most guys that I was competing with – and beating – took a right,” said Biershenk. “Most of these guys that I used to beat, there is a handful of them on the PGA TOUR now. They made better decisions at that age.”

Anderson competed on the PGA TOUR in 2003 and 2005 – highlighted by a T4 finish at the 2003 Southern Farm Bureau Classic – and finished that year ranked 152nd on the PGA TOUR money list. After playing the year in between on the Web.com Tour (formerly the Nationwide Tour) in 2004 – which included a win at the SAS Carolina Classic – he returned to the PGA TOUR in 2005 and incorporated swing changes in the hope of keeping his play at a high level. The changes were too much and soon he lost confidence in his game, as his scoring results showed. That was when things began to unravel.

After several years of lackluster performances, coupled with family business issues constantly tugging at him, Anderson hung up the golf clubs and joined the family forklift business. Currently, Anderson is vice president of Industry Lift, Inc. He has a steady paycheck and he gets to tuck his kids into bed every night. But he never lost his passion for the game and is ready to give professional golf another go.

“It is really, really hard to get on the PGA TOUR. It is even harder to stay out there,” said Anderson. “I’ve learned a lot over the years, not only about the game but also about myself. I also know that my scorecards don’t reflect the caliber of the player I can be.”

The premiere of Chasing the Dream will join a new season of Golf Channel’s popular Big Break series – Big Break Greenbrier – to bolster the network’s Tuesday fall primetime lineup. Golf Channel is the fastest-growing network on television among those serving more than 80 million homes, based on achieving six consecutive quarters of growth since becoming part of the NBC Sports Group.

The Riggle Era Begins on FOX NFL SUNDAY

August 28, 2012 By admin

Actor/Comedian Rob Riggle Joins America’s Favorite Pregame Show For Weekly Segment Debuting Sunday, Sept. 9

New York – FOX Sports has invited Rob Riggle, one of America’s most popular comedians, to join Terry Bradshaw, Curt Menefee, Howie Long, Jimmy Johnson, Michael Strahan, and Jay Glazer on FOX NFL SUNDAY, Americas No. 1 NFL pregame show.  The announcement was made today live on-air during the network’s coverage of the San Francisco 49ers vs. Denver Broncos preseason game.

An actor, comedian, and writer, Riggle assumes the role of the show’s comedic prognosticator in a weekly segment where, in addition to lampooning the game, its stars and his co-stars, he challenges Bradshaw, Long, Johnson and Strahan as they vie for the coveted “Lead Dog” trophy for the most correct selections at season’s end.
“We’ve been No. 1 since Day 1 because we’ve never strayed from our formula to inform and entertain in the right mix, and our audience is going to really like Rob’s comedy and what he brings to the show,” said producer Bill Richards.

Riggle is best known for his starring role in the hit movie 21 Jump Street, as well as hilarious roles in blockbuster films such as The Hangover and Step Brothers.  He’s also a former Saturday Night Live cast member and Daily Show correspondent, and recently hosted the 2012 ESPY Awards.  None of those roles are more important than Riggle’s distinguished military background and career.  Currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserves, he has served our nation in uniform for over 22 years, including nine years as an active duty service member.  He has received numerous military honors throughout his career.

“I’m very excited to join the FOX NFL SUNDAY team!  Wait, what does NFL stand for again?” quipped Riggle.

Riggle follows a short but distinguished line of comedians who have raised their profile on FOX NFL SUNDAY.  He succeeds comedic impersonator Frank Caliendo, now one of the hottest comics in the country, whose nine-year run ended last season.  Caliendo’s spot-on impersonations of John Madden, Jack Nicholson, Terry Bradshaw, George W. Bush, among many others, combined with the playful shots he took at NFL owners, coaches and players, delighted fans for nearly a decade.

Preceding Caliendo was the wise-cracking Jimmy Kimmel, FOX NFL SUNDAY’s first comedian, who left to launch his career as a late night talk show host.  Kimmel appeared on the show from 1999 to 2002, and for four years skewered Bradshaw and company along with the game’s newsmakers and playmakers with his nothing-held-back style.

Riggle was raised in Overland Park, Kansas where he quickly became a Kansas City Chiefs fan.  He graduated with a B.A. in Theater & Film from the University of Kansas and received a Masters in Public Administration while serving in the United States Marine Corps.
