The most decorated Olympian in history, Michael Phelps, met his idol – Michael Jordan – for the first time Monday night during the filming of Feherty Live, an hour-long special that will air Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET on Golf Channel. Jordan and Phelps joined funnyman David Feherty for the special Ryder Cup-themed show, taped in front of a packed house at the Tivoli Theater in Downers Grove, Ill., near Medinah Country Club, site of this week’s Ryder Cup. Wednesday’s Feherty Live also will include appearances by former Ryder Cup captains Paul Azinger, Sam Torrance and Lanny Wadkins.
David Feherty conducted a media conference call this morning to discuss last night’s Feherty Live show and the meeting between Jordan and Phelps, as well as the roster of former Ryder Cup captains that joined him. A full highlights release with quotes from last night’s show will be distributed this afternoon.
Additional topics Feherty discussed on the call:
– How he has a new found appreciation for Leno and Letterman is this talk-show style format.
– His thoughts on Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy competing this week in the Ryder Cup.
– Sizing up the European and U.S. teams competing in the Ryder Cup this week.
– At the end of the show, he pledged his allegiance to support Team U.S.A. Feherty, a former European Ryder Cup team member, explains why.
