STAMFORD, Conn. – Jan. 26, 2023 – NBC Sports begins its 2023 horse racing coverage with the first major event of the year, the $4.5 million Pegasus World Cup Series, from Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., this Saturday, Jan. 28, live at 4:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock. In its seventh year, the Pegasus World Cup Series includes the $3 million Pegasus World Cup (G1) and the $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1).

The 2023 Pegasus World Cup field features multiple Grade 1-winner and 2022 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) second-place finisher Cyberknife, who is the morning-line favorite at 5/2. Also expected to compete in the 12-horse field at 1 1/8-miles on the dirt are 2022 Florida Derby (G1) champion White Abarrio and 2022 Awesome Again (G1) winner Defunded, who is trained by two-time Pegasus World Cup champion Bob Baffert.

The 12-horse field of this year’s Pegasus World Cup Turf includes 2022 Fort Lauderdale (G2) winner City Man, 2022 Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) fourth-place finisher and 5/2 morning-line favorite Ivar, and 2022 Hollywood Derby (G1) champion Speaking Scout.

Ahmed Fareed hosts Saturday’s coverage alongside analyst and Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey, analyst Randy Moss, reporters Britney Eurton and Nick Luck, and handicapper Matt Bernier.

NBC Sports will also present highlights of the Pegasus Filly & Mare Turf (G3) during the 90-minute program, which will be run earlier in the day on Saturday. In addition to world class racing, the Pegasus World Cup is a special race day that combines the fusion of celebrity attendees, fashion, and entertainment. This year’s event includes a live performance featuring musical artists Kygo and OneRepublic. Joe Jonas will give the ‘Riders Up’ command.

2020 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Knicks Go, the 5-2 morning-line favorite, will break from the #4 post and will be joined in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) by Code of Honor (9-2), who placed 2nd in the 2019 Kentucky Derby, and Tax (5-1), who won the G3 Harlan’s Holiday Stakes at Gulfstream in his last start. Headlining the 1 3/16th mile Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) is the Todd Pletcher-trained Colonel Liam, and the California-based Anothertwistafate.

In its fifth year, the Pegasus World Cup Championship Invitational Series will include the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1), to be contested by the expected 12-horse field on the dirt at 1-1/8 miles, and the $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1). The horses in both the Pegasus World Cup Invitational and Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational will compete free of any medications on race day this year. The medication-free format was introduced by 1/ST RACING for the 2020 Pegasus World Cup Championship Invitational Series and reflects 1/ST HORSE CARE’s ongoing commitment to horse and rider safety and care.

Ahmed Fareed hosts Saturday’s coverage from NBC Sports Group’s International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Conn., alongside analyst Randy Moss. Hall of Fame jockey and analyst Jerry Bailey will join the broadcast remotely from his home in Florida, and reporters Britney Eurton and Matt Bernier will report on-site from Gulfstream Park.

Saturday’s broadcast will feature helmet JockeyCams on two riders during each race and will provide a thrilling “second screen experience” giving fans at home a real-time view of what it is like to be a jockey riding in two of North America’s richest Thoroughbred horse races.

The broadcast will also showcase the Pegasus “blue” carpet, and celebrity and live entertainment event elements from Gulfstream Park. The show will feature a special performance by musician Aloe Blacc, and local singer and America’s Got Talent semifinalist Yoli Mayor will sing the National Anthem.

STAMFORD, Conn. – January 22, 2019 – Accelerate, the 2018 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and a Horse of the Year finalist, headlines the $16 million Pegasus World Cup Championship Invitational Series this Saturday, Jan. 26, live at 4:30 p.m. ET on NBC, from Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida.

Accelerate has six victories in his last seven starts and looks to finish his career with a win on Saturday. He will break from the #5 post and is a 9-5 favorite on Tuesday’s morning line. Joining him in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational field are 2018 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner City of Light (second choice at 5-2), 2018 Breeders’ Cup Classic runner-up Gunnevera (8-1), Preakness Stakes runner-up Bravazo (12-1), and Kentucky Derby third-place finisher Audible (10-1). Headlining the $7 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational is multiple Grade 1 stakes winner Yoshida, who will race alongside 2018 Breeders’ Cup Mile runner-up Catapult and Japanese filly Aerolithe in the 1-3/16 mile turf race.

In its first year as a championship series, the Pegasus World Cup Championship Invitational Series will include the $9 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1), to be contested on the dirt at 1-1/8 miles offering $4 million for the winner of the expected 12-horse field, and the $7 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1), the richest turf race in North America.

Laffit Pincay III hosts Saturday’s coverage, alongside Hall of Fame jockey and analyst Jerry Bailey; analyst Randy Moss; and reporters Nick Luck and Britney Eurton. The broadcast will also showcase the Pegasus “blue” carpet, and celebrity and live entertainment event elements from Gulfstream Park. Snoop Dogg and Mark Ronson will perform at the event, and are expected to be interviewed during the broadcast.

Analyst/handicapper and U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer Eddie Olczyk will partake in a special pucks and ponies “daily double” this weekend, as he will join the Pegasus broadcast via remote from San Jose, where he’ll call the 2019 NHL All-Star Game in primetime on Saturday (8 p.m. ET on NBC). During the NHL All-Star Skills competition on Friday night (9 p.m. ET on NBCSN), Olczyk will offer his insight on the races, and may provide some early tips.

STAMFORD, Conn. – Nov. 8, 2018 – NBC Sports Group has reached an agreement with The Stronach Group for exclusive United States media rights to the third annual running of the Pegasus World Cup Invitational on January 26, 2019 from The Stronach Group’s Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida. Among the entries for the 2019 running of the Pegasus World Cup Invitational is 2018 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Accelerate.

Building on the success of 2017 and 2018, The Stronach Group has expanded the 2019 event for both horse owners and fans by turning the $16 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational into a championship series.  The Pegasus World Cup Championship Invitational Series will include the $9 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1), to be contested on the dirt at 1 1/8 miles offering $4 million for the winner of the 12-horse field and the $7 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1), to be run on the turf at 1 3/16 mile. The Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational will replace the Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap and aims to attract and showcase 12 of the best turf horses from around the world as they compete for a $3 million first place prize.

NBC will air a live 90-minute program featuring both the Pegasus World Cup Invitational and the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational. The broadcast will also showcase the Pegasus “blue” carpet, celebrity and live entertainment event elements from Gulfstream Park at 4:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, January 26, 2019.
