STAMFORD, Conn. – Dec. 9, 2020 – NBC Sports’ presentation of the 2020 Notre Dame Football season, its 30th season of Notre Dame Football coverage, posted the network’s most-watched season in 15 years, according to data provided by Nielsen and Adobe Analytics.

For five games on NBC, the 2020 Notre Dame on NBC season averaged a Total Audience Delivery (TAD) of 4.802 million viewers, marking the most-watched season on NBC since 2005 (5.168 million P2+) and up 121% vs. 2019.

Notre Dame (10-0) defeated Syracuse, 45-21, on NBC last week to clinch their third undefeated regular season in the Brian Kelly era. The Fighting Irish will face Clemson in the ACC Championship Game.

Viewership highlights of the 2020 Notre Dame on NBC season:

Clemson-Notre Dame (Saturday, Nov. 7)

    • The Fighting Irish’s 47-40 double-overtime victory over the nation’s top-ranked team delivered a TAD of 217 million viewers on NBC, making it the:
      • Most-watched college football game of the 2020 season;
      • Second-most watched Notre Dame on NBC game on record, behind only the “Game of the Century” between No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 1 Florida State in 1993 (22.02 million viewers);

Duke-Notre Dame Season Opener (Saturday, Sept. 12)

    • Notre Dame’s season opener vs. Duke on NBC delivered 384 million viewers, making it the most-watched Notre Dame on NBC afternoon home opener in 14 years (vs. Penn State on 9/9/06, 6.902 million TV viewers)

STAMFORD, Conn. – Dec. 2, 2020 – NBC Sports concludes its 30th season of Notre Dame Football coverage this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBC, when the undefeated No. 2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (9-0) host the Syracuse Orange (1-9) in their home finale from Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Ind.

Mike Tirico (play-by-play) and Super Bowl-winning head coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Dungy (lead analyst) will call the game along with Kathryn Tappen (sideline reporter) and Terry McAulay (rules analyst). NBC Sports host and Notre Dame alum Jac Collinsworth will host pre-game, halftime and post-game coverage from Notre Dame Stadium.

Notre Dame and Syracuse will meet for the 10th time in their history this weekend, with the Fighting Irish holding a 6-3 advantage all-time. The schools most recently met in 2018, when No. 3 Notre Dame topped No. 12 Syracuse, 36-3, at Yankee Stadium as QB Ian Book passed for 292 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

Last week, Notre Dame – who are the No. 2 team in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings – kept their undefeated season alive with a 31-17 win over No. 19 North Carolina. Book passed for 279 yards with one touchdown, and RB Kyren Williams, who is second in the ACC with 901 rushing yards this season, rushed for 124 yards and scored three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving).

Notre Dame has the longest active win streak in the nation at 15 and already clinched a spot in the ACC Championship Game in their first season as a conference member. With a win this Saturday, the Irish will complete their third perfect regular season in the Brian Kelly era and move closer to securing their second College Football Playoff appearance and potentially adding to their 11 national titles.

Syracuse visits Notre Dame Stadium looking to snap a seven-game losing streak after falling to North Carolina State, 36-29, last weekend.

Through four games on NBC this season, Notre Dame matchups are averaging a Total Audience Delivery of 5.28 million viewers, up 133% vs. 2019 and on pace for the best Notre Dame on NBC season since 2005.

Notre Dame’s 47-40 victory in double overtime, which propelled them to No. 2 in the country, was punctuated by RB Kyren Williams’s three-yard touchdown run before the Fighting Irish stopped Clemson with two sacks on the Tigers’ final possession. Williams rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns and QB Ian Book passed for 310 yards and a touchdown and added 67 yards on the ground in the win.

STAMFORD, Conn. – Nov.  8, 2020 – NBC Sports’ coverage of Saturday night’s top-five clash between the No. 1 Clemson Tigers and the No. 4 Notre Dame Fighting Irish averaged a preliminary* Total Audience Delivery of 9.44 million viewers across NBC TV and NBC Sports Digital – making it the most-watched Notre Dame on NBC game in 15 years, according to Fast National Data released today Nielsen, and digital data from Adobe Analytics.

*Does not include Out of Home viewership, which is included in official national viewership, and will be available on Tuesday. Viewership does not include the portion of the game that was interrupted on NBC by coverage of President-elect Joe Biden’s speech.

The Fighting Irish’s thrilling double-overtime victory, 47-40, over the nation’s top-ranked team is the most-watched Notre Dame on NBC matchup since the “Bush Push” game against USC on Oct. 15, 2005 (10.1 million viewers) and is the most-watched ND on NBC primetime game on record.

Last night’s game, which peaked at 14.2 million viewers from 11:30-11:45 p.m. ET (during the second overtime), will likely rank as the most-watched college football game of the season so far when official viewership, which includes out-of-home audience, is issued on Tuesday.

Clemson-Notre Dame (7:35-8:27 p.m. ET and 8:57-11:47 p.m. ET) delivered a 5.4/12 household rating.

Once NBC News’ coverage of the speech concludes, the game will return to NBC.

Coverage of No. 1 Clemson at No. 4 Notre Dame begins with a two-part Countdown to Kickoff from 5:30-6 p.m. ET on NBC and resumes at 7 p.m. ET on NBC with Countdown to Kickoff Presented by Salesforce.com. Kickoff is set for 7:35 p.m. ET on NBC.

Notre Dame and Louisville will meet for the third time in their history this weekend, with the series split at one win each. The schools most recently met in last year’s season opener, when the Fighting Irish topped the Cardinals, 35-17, at Cardinal Stadium to begin the Scott Satterfield era in Louisville. Notre Dame QB Ian Book passed for 193 yards and a touchdown and added 81 yards on the ground and a rushing score in the win. Louisville won the only other previous meeting, emerging victorious in their only visit to Notre Dame Stadium in 2014 with a 31-28 win.

Last week, Notre Dame hosted Florida State and secured a 42-26 victory behind Book’s three total touchdowns and 100-yard rushing performances from RBs Kyren Williams (185 yards, two touchdowns) and Chris Tyree (103 yards, one touchdown).

Louisville visits Notre Dame Stadium looking to snap a three-game losing streak after falling to Georgia Tech, 46-27, last week. Cardinals QB Malik Cunningham has scored 12 touchdowns this season (nine passing, three rushing), while RB Javian Hawkins leads the ACC with 468 rushing yards and WR Tutu Atwell ties for the conference lead with four touchdown catches.
