The Irish begin the season in Kyle Field against Texas A&M, facing the Aggies for the sixth time and the first since a loss in the program’s only visit to College Station in 2001. Notre Dame and Texas A&M first met in 1987 at the Cotton Bowl (a 35-10 Texas A&M victory), then followed with two more Cotton Bowl meetings – both won by the Irish – in 1992 and 1993. The two programs then held a home-and-home series in 2000 and 2001 with both teams earning a victory on their respective home fields.

The 2024 home opener with Northern Illinois will mark the first meeting between the Irish and the Huskies in football. Dating back to the 2013 season, the Irish are 6-0 in first-time meetings with opponents in Notre Dame Stadium, including the 41-7 victory over Central Michigan in 2023. Notre Dame is 10-0 all-time against teams from the Mid-America Conference.

Notre Dame and Purdue will renew their long-time rivalry on September 14th and battle for the Shillelagh Trophy. The Irish – Boilermakers series began in 1896 and is the third-most prolific in Notre Dame history with 87 meetings, trailing just Navy (96) and Southern Cal (94). Notre Dame holds a 59-26-2 advantage in the series, has won the last eight meetings against Purdue and earned a victory in its last three visits to Ross-Ade Stadium.

The Irish return home on September 21st to face Miami OH for the third time and first since a 52-17 victory in 2017. The three-game homestand then continues with a visit from Louisville (Sept. 28), the first bye week of the season, then the annual battle for the Legends Trophy with Stanford on October 12.

Notre Dame and Louisville will be facing off for the second-consecutive season and fourth time since 2019. The Cardinals snapped Notre Dame’s 30-game win streak over ACC teams last season at Louisville, but the Irish will look to extend their 19-game home win streak over ACC opponents in 2024.

Notre Dame returns to the road for back-to-back games in NFL venues over the following two weeks, facing off with Georgia Tech in Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Navy in MetLife Stadium. The Irish are 23-15 in current NFL Stadiums and will be making their first appearance in the home of the Atlanta Falcons (Notre Dame has played in 15 of the current 30 NFL stadiums).

The Irish and Yellowjackets will meet for the 38th time and the third since 2020, with Notre Dame holding a 30-6-1 advantage in the series with victories in four of the last five meetings. Notre Dame and Navy continue their annual rivalry and meet for the 97th time (ND leads the series 82-13-1) and for the second time in MetLife Stadium (2010).

The second bye week of the season leads into a two-game stretch in Notre Dame Stadium when Florida State (Nov. 9) and Virginia (Nov. 16) travel to The House That Rockne Built. The Irish will be looking to even the all-time series with Florida State (FSU holds the current advantage at 6-5) and earn their fourth consecutive win over the Seminoles.

Notre Dame and Virginia will meet for the fifth time and third since 2019. The Irish are 4-0 all-time against the Cavaliers and 1-0 in Notre Dame Stadium.

The month of November concludes with the Shamrock Series game against Army in Yankee Stadium, which will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock, followed by the next installment of the greatest intersectional rivalry in college football when Notre Dame heads to Los Angeles to face Southern Cal on November 30.

The Irish and Trojans will meet for the 95th time and 45th time in the Coliseum, as Notre Dame looks to earn their first win over Southern Cal in Los Angeles since 2018 and seventh win over the SC in nine meetings.

NOTRE DAME AND ARMY TO MEET IN 2024 SHAMROCK SERIES GAME AT YANKEE STADIUM

February 14, 2024 By admin

SOUTH BEND, IN – Feb. 14, 2024 — The University of Notre Dame football team has announced the return of the Shamrock Series to Yankee Stadium in 2024. Notre Dame will face Army on November 23, 2024, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the fabled Four Horsemen backfield of Jim Crowley, Elmer Layden, Don Miller and Harry Stuhldreher and the game in which they were immortalized by Grantland Rice in the New York Herald Tribune – a 13-7 upset victory over Army in New York on October 18, 1924.

The game will be broadcast nationally on NBC and Peacock and marks the third Shamrock Series game to be played at Yankee Stadium. Notre Dame defeated Army, 27-3, in 2010 and Syracuse, 36-3, in 2018.

The Shamrock Series began in 2009 when Notre Dame started to ‘take a home game on the road’ in San Antonio. The Irish defeated Washington State, 40-14, in the Alamodome and have hosted 11 Shamrock Series games across the country, including Landover, MD, Chicago, IL, Arlington, TX, Indianapolis, IN, and Las Vegas, NV.

Shamrock Series game weekends feature more than just the game, as the University will plan a number of educational, service and fan-centric events in the New York metropolitan area leading up to the game.

Shamrock Series History

Date Opponent ND Rank Opp Rank Result Site Att.
10/31/2009 Washington State 25 W, 40-14 Alamodome, San Antonio, TX 53,407

Notre Dame is 11-0 in the Shamrock Series and will be meeting Army for the 52nd time overall (the Irish lead the all-time series 39-8-4). The series between the Fighting Irish and Black Knights was a fundamental element in the development of both programs and the annual trip to New York for fans of both teams played a key role in the first half of the 20th century in the marketing and celebration of college football as a truly national sport.

Notre Dame and Army have met at the home of the Yankees 23 times, including 22 times at the original Yankee Stadium (1925-29, ‘31-46, ‘69) and once at the current Yankee Stadium. The most recent contest in 2010 also marked the first college football game played at the current Stadium, which opened its doors in 2009.

The legendary Four Horsemen game against Army was held at the Polo Grounds, which was just across the Harlem River from where Yankee Stadium is situated, and the Irish have also faced the Black Knights at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, Shea Stadium in Queens and Giants Stadium in New Jersey.

NOTRE DAME AND NBC SPORTS CONTINUE HISTORIC FOOTBALL PARTNERSHIP, WITH GAMES TO BE PRESENTED ON NBC AND PEACOCK THROUGH THE 2029 SEASON

November 18, 2023 By admin

Multi-Year Extension Brings Notre Dame on NBC Partnership to Nearly Four Decades; Includes Additional Events on Notre Dame Football Calendar

Peacock to Debut Annual Documentary Series on Notre Dame Football in 2024

Peacock to Continue Streaming a Notre Dame Football Game Exclusively Each Season

Multiple Fighting Irish Primetime Games to be Presented on NBC and Peacock Each Season

STAMFORD, Conn. – November 18, 2023 – The University of Notre Dame and NBC Sports have agreed on a multi-year extension of their historic football partnership, through the 2029 season. The agreement extends the landmark partnership – the longest college media relationship dating to 1991 – to nearly four decades (39 seasons).

“We are thrilled to continue our historic collaboration with our partners at NBC Sports,” said University of Notre Dame Vice President and James E. Rohr Director of Athletics Jack Swarbrick. “In the next generation of this partnership, we will collaborate to provide our fans even more Notre Dame content through a variety of NBCUniversal’s distribution channels while continuing to put our student-athletes and their stories at the heart of our messaging.”

“There is no better tradition than Notre Dame Football in South Bend, and we are thrilled to keep that tradition within the NBC Sports family as we extend our relationship as the exclusive home of Fighting Irish home games through the end of the decade,” said Rick Cordella, President, NBC Sports. “With enhanced rights that allow us to present Notre Dame Football on NBC as well as across Peacock and additional platforms, we look forward to bringing the Fighting Irish to fans in more ways than ever before.”

NBC Sports retains global media rights on all platforms to all Notre Dame home football games. It also allows for select games to stream exclusively on Peacock, which has been the exclusive home of one Notre Dame Football game each season since 2021. Peacock will also be the exclusive home of a new, annual documentary series on Notre Dame Football, debuting in 2024.

NBC Sports’ Notre Dame Football games are averaging 5.1 million viewers this season – the largest audience through five game broadcasts since 2005 and up 86% from last year at this point. The Fighting Irish’s Sept. 23 primetime thriller against Ohio State averaged 10.6 million viewers across NBC, Peacock and NBC Sports Digital, ranking as NBC Sports’ second-most watched regular season college football game of all-time, behind only then-No. 2 Notre Dame’s “Game of the Century” 31-24 defeat of No. 1 Florida State on Nov. 13, 1993 (22 million viewers).

The new agreement also extends to other events on the Notre Dame Football calendar, including the annual Blue-Gold Game and Notre Dame’s Pro Day.

In 2023-24, NBC Sports also marks its 11th season presenting Notre Dame hockey coverage, as Peacock is exclusively live streaming the entire hockey 21-game home schedule.

Last November, NBC and Peacock presented the Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s college basketball team against Cal — marking the first-ever live presentation of a women’s college basketball game on NBC and Peacock. The series continued earlier today with the Notre Dame-Illinois women’s basketball game presented live on NBC and Peacock from Washington, D.C.

Revenues from the NBC partnership have played a key role in Notre Dame’s financial aid endowment since the start of the relationship in 1991 when University officers allocated a portion of the football television contract revenue for undergraduate scholarship endowment (not athletic scholarships). To date, Notre Dame undergraduate students have received over $100 million in aid from revenue generated through the NBC contract.
