2016 Rookie of Year Dak Prescott, 2016 Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack & Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller Take Part alongside Antonio Brown, Derek Carr, Dont’a Hightower, Travis Kelce, Julio Jones, Patrick Peterson & Jason Pierre-Paul

Sneak Preview of New Sunday Night Football Open to Air during 49ers-Vikings NFL Preseason Game, Sunday, Aug. 27 on NBC

STAMFORD, Conn. – July 31, 2017 – 10 NFL players will join seven-time Grammy Award-winner and multi-platinum superstar artist Carrie Underwood for her performance of  “Oh, Sunday Night,” the opening theme for primetime television’s No. 1 program, NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

A sneak preview of the new show open – which debuts Sept. 10 as the New York Giants visit the Dallas Cowboys in the season-opening SNF game – will air during the 49ers-Vikings NFL preseason game Sunday, Aug. 27 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

10 NFL players, who have accounted for 30 Pro Bowl selections, four Super Bowl rings, and six first-round draft picks, participated in the open shoot at Universal Studios Hollywood in June. Following is the complete list of the players:

  • Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown
  • Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr
  • New England Patriots LB Dont’a Hightower
  • Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce
  • Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones
  • Oakland Raiders LB Khalil Mack
  • Denver Broncos LB Von Miller
  • Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson
  • New York Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul
  • Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott

“Oh, Sunday Night” is set to the music of “Somethin’ Bad,” a chart-topping duet from Underwood and Miranda Lambert which was released in 2014 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. Underwood worked with the songwriters of “Somethin’ Bad”– Chris DeStefano, Brett James, and Priscilla Renea – to rewrite the lyrics for Sunday Night Football. The result, “Oh, Sunday Night,” was produced by Mark Bright and Chris DeStefano. This NFL season marks the fifth for Underwood as the star of NBC’s SNF show open.

SNF IS TV’S NO. 1 PRIMETIME PROGRAM FOR RECORD 6 CONSECUTIVE YEARS:

NBC’s Sunday Night Football finished as primetime’s #1 TV show in all key metrics for a record sixth consecutive year – tying American Idol for the most consecutive years atop the charts (since 1950), based on live plus same day data provided by The Nielsen Company. Sunday Night Football also ranked as the No. 1 show in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic for the seventh consecutive TV season.

About Carrie Underwood:

Carrie Underwood emerged from the promise of her 2005 American Idol win to become a true multi-format, multi-media superstar, spanning achievements in music, television, and film. A seven-time GRAMMY® Award winner, she has amassed over 100 major honors, sold 64 million records worldwide, and recorded 26 #1 singles, 13 of which she co-wrote, with a catalog of songs that have been streamed more than 2.6 billion times worldwide. The first female artist to be twice named the Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year, Underwood was recognized by Pollstar as the top female country touring artist for each of her headlining tours in 2008, 2010, 2012, and for 2016’s “The Storyteller Tour – Stories in the Round.” Carrie also topped Billboard’s Top 25 Tours of 2016 as the leading female country artist and was the leading female artist on Country Aircheck’s top country radio performers list for her success in both 2015 and 2016. All five studio albums, Some Hearts, Carnival Ride, Play On, Blown Away, and Storyteller – are certified Platinum or multi-Platinum, and each an American Music Awards winner as Favorite Country Album – and tallied an incredible 40 weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart.  The RIAA’s highest certified country album artist to debut this century, Underwood also holds the distinction of the highest album certification of any country artist to emerge since 2000 with the 8x Multi-Platinum success of her 2005 debut, Some Hearts.  She is the all-time Top Country Artist (male or female) on RIAA’s Digital Single Ranking, also placing her among the Top 5 females in the history of RIAA’s Digital Single Program across all genres.  In December of 2014, she released her Platinum-certified Greatest Hits: Decade #1, which produced two new #1 hits co-written by Underwood, including the RIAA-Platinum, GRAMMY-winning “Something in the Water.”  The Grand Ole Opry member demonstrated her creative diversity in 2013 starring as Maria von Trapp in NBC’s three-hour holiday blockbuster, the Emmy®-winning The Sound of Music Live!, whose airings attracted 44 million viewers. The reigning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, Underwood claimed her fourth win in the category amid the ongoing success of her chart-topping platinum fifth studio album, Storyteller, which produced four #1 hits. This November, Underwood will co-host the CMA Awards for a tenth consecutive year.

On Bernhard Langer, leader at 5-under par (6-under par 65 on Saturday)
Rich Lerner – “To put in perspective on how dominant he has been since 2010 in the Senior Majors. He is now is 282 under-par. That is 148 shots better than anyone else. That is staggering.”
Lanny Wadkins – “You just expect him to be there. He plays so well. There are no weaknesses in his game. He drives it plenty long, very straight. A terrific iron player and makes no mistakes around the greens.”
Dave Marr – “It has been a renaissance for him since his win at the 2014 Senior Open.”
Rich Lerner – “This guy really is remarkable. 17 wins since turning 55.”
John Mahaffey – “He gives his mind a chance to rest when he is away from the course. When he plays, he mentally prepares and focuses. That is what you are looking for out here, and that is exactly what he does.”
Billy Ray Brown – “He has been spectacular. He has certainly been in control.”
Wadkins – “I don’t think we expected to see him – not feeling well – to play this well today. It has been remarkable. I can’t think of a shot that he has really hit poorly.”
Wadkins – “It is utterly amazing not only how well he plays, but the consistency day-in and day-out.”

Bernhard Langer – “It was a lot easier to play today. The first 10-12 holes we didn’t have any rain and the wind was 5-10 miles per hour, which makes it a lot more playable versus 25 gusting to 35 and rain in between. It was a lot more fun today.”
Langer – “Same mentality as the last few days. Still have to be aggressive. There are a lot of guys waiting for me to fall apart or whatever, so I need to shoot a good round, hopefully under par depending on the conditions. If I can do that, then I’ll make it difficult for the other guys to catch me. So, my plan is to go under par.”

Corey Pavin in 2nd at 1-under par (6-under 65 on Saturday) speaking with NBC’s Todd Lewis following his round
Corey Pavin – “It was nice out today. I hit the ball a lot better today and I putted nicely. I made about a 50-footer on 4 which kind of got me going and made me feel like, ‘Ok things might be going ok today.’ I made three in a row right there, so once I did that, I eased into the round and felt pretty comfortable.”
Pavin – “When I came out I saw that there were a couple of good scores out there. Guys were under par. There isn’t much breeze today and the course is getable when it is like this. Certainly it hasn’t been like that the previous two days but I still had to be patient, go out there and hit shots and take what the course gave me and today it gave me a little bit.”

On Steve Flesch, T4 at 1-over par (even-par 71 on Saturday)
Lerner – “On a day when a lot of players took it deep, Flesch kind of stalled today.”
Wadkins – “Flesch shot the same score today that he shot yesterday. As hard as it played yesterday, he played an amazing round. Today, he was just stuck in neutral.”

On Tom Watson, T11 at 3-over par (4-under par 67 on Saturday – shooting his age)
Wadkins – “That was fun to watch today. Tom was hitting a lot of quality shots. His putting has looked very good all week.”

On Fred Couples, T11 at 3-over par (5-under par 66 on Saturday)
Wadkins – “He got himself there today. He has got himself where a 65 or 66 might do some real damage on Sunday.”

On Saturday’s 3rd round at The Senior Open at Royal Porthcawl
Lerner – “Compared to yesterday, Wales feels like Waikiki today.”
Marr – “How difficult was the scoring the first two days here at the Senior Open? 286 scores posted, only one in the 60s.”

NOTABLE QUOTES: THE SENIOR OPEN, SUNDAY’S FINAL ROUND – LANGER WINS 10TH SENIOR MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP

July 31, 2017 By admin

NBC Notable Quotes
The Senior Open Presented by Rolex
Final Round
Sunday, July 30, 2017
Royal Porthcawl Golf Club
Bridgend, Wales

**To avoid potential inclement weather on Sunday, tee times were moved up for the final round at The Senior Open presented by Rolex. Live coverage of the final round was streamed on Golf Channel Digital earlier today (5:30-10 a.m. ET)

**Golf Channel and NBC airtimes remain the same: Final round coverage of The Senior Open presented by Rolex began on Golf Channel (9:30 a.m.-Noon ET) and continues on NBC from Noon-2 p.m. ET.

**RATINGS: Saturday’s overnight rating of The Senior Open on NBC (.66) is the highest round 3 telecast for any PGA TOUR Champions event in 3 years – since ‘14 U.S. Senior Open on NBC.

On Bernhard Langer, 2017 Senior Open champion at 4-under par (1-over 72 on Sunday)
Rich Lerner – “His friends back home in South Florida call him Bernie, easy-going and friendly. But out here he is Bernhard Langer. Relentless, dominant. As fit and focused at almost 60 as he was at 30. Year after year, tournament after tournament, Sunday after Sunday, always it seems to be ‘Weekend at Bernie’s.’
Lanny Wadkins – “This is one of the great performances by Bernhard Langer. Again.”
Wadkins – “He is focused. Always prepared and always ready to play.”
Wadkins – He knows how to win on the golf course. He has done what he had to do today because nobody made a run at him. “It wasn’t pretty but he did what he needed to.”

On Corey Pavin, 2nd place at 1-under par (even-par 71 on Sunday)
Wadkins – What a great way to finish to get under par for the championship.”
Billy Ray Brown – “He’s didn’t give up today. That’s for sure.”

Billy Andrade, T3 at even par (3-under 68 on Sunday) speaking with NBC’s Todd Lewis following his round
Billy Andrade – “I knew I was in the mix. I saw that I was close at 8, and after I birdied 8 I knew I was up there. I was just going along, trying not to make any mistakes and see if I could make a few more birdies. My goal was to try to get in with a couple-under and put some pressure on Bernhard. All in all, it was a great week. This is an unbelievable golf course. It is beautiful, and I am looking forward to coming back here in a few years. This is quite a place. If anyone has a chance to come here and play, this should be on your bucket list.”

On Peter Lonard, T3 at even par (even-par 71 on Sunday)
John Mahaffey – “He has not had any luck with the putter today at all.”
Lanny Wadkins – “That has been his weakness all day.”

Fred Couples, T3 at even par (3-under par 68 on Sunday)
Wadkins – “Good tournament for Fred. Start of the week, I thought even par would do it.”
Wadkins – “His round today was outstanding.

Fred Couples speaking with NBC’s Todd Lewis following his round
Fred Couples – “Yesterday was a lot easier coming off of Friday. I hit the ball well and I ran out of here after 3-putting 18, almost for a 65. Today was really hard, plus we teed off a lot earlier. Going early was different today, it was cold and windy. But the first two days – they were not the hardest rounds of golf I have ever played – they are in the top-10. It is a very hard course. For Bernhard to have a lead and make very few mistakes is a great round of golf. For me, I was just freeloading and trying a couple of things, not that you could get the ball close to the hole. I birdied all three par-5s and that is what I shot.”
Couples – “He [Bernhard Langer] is a hard worker. He is right there and that is why he is so good. He hits the ball very solid and is very clutch. When you start winning a lot, it does become easier, but not winning majors. This golf course – what did he did last time he was here, he won by 13. That was unreal and to win again in these conditions just shows you that he is a very, very tough competitor. He really doesn’t give shots away. He plays the course, and if 73 is the best that he is going to do, 73 is what he is going to get. Yesterday was a great score that he shot and today he is playing great golf.

NOTES & QUOTES FROM NBCSN’S MONSTER ENERGY NASCAR CUP SERIES COVERAGE FROM POCONO RACEWAY

July 30, 2017 By admin

“That is the mark of a championship-caliber team and driver.” – Dale Jarrett on Kyle Busch

“Look how hungry that No. 18 team is for their first win of 2017.” – Rick Allen

“They are working themselves into a must-win situation.” – Jeff Burton on Joey Logano

LONG POND, Pa. – July 30, 2017 – NBC Sports Group presented its fifth week of live 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and XFINITY Series racing, with 16 hours of trackside coverage from Pocono Raceway, in Long Pond, Pa., and Iowa Speedway, in Newton, Iowa. Coverage was highlighted by this afternoon’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race on NBCSN. Kyle Busch and the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota won the race at Pocono, after holding off Kevin Harvick in the final laps. Busch’s victory breaks his 36-race winless streak and secures his spot as the 13th driver to make the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.

As part of today’s coverage from Pocono Raceway, NBC Sports Group debuted its new “What-Why Booth” broadcasting technique, for the first time during a Cup Series race. Utilizing two broadcast booths at Pocono Raceway, NBC Sports’ lead NASCAR announcer Rick Allen, and Hall of Fame driver Dale Jarrett, called the race from NBCSN’s traditional booth, while 21-time Cup Series winner Jeff Burton, and Daytona 500-winning crew chief Steve Letarte, provided comprehensive analysis and a cross-examination of pivotal game-changing events from NBCSN’s second broadcast booth.

Coverage began on NBCSN at 12:30 p.m. ET with NASCAR America, followed by Countdown to Green at 2:30 p.m. ET. Krista Voda anchored pre-race coverage alongside analysts Kyle Petty and Dale Jarrett. Marty Snider, Kelli Stavast and Dave Burns reported from pit road alongside features contributor Rutledge Wood.

Race Results

Position Driver Car #
1 Kyle Busch 18
2 Kevin Harvick 4
3 Martin Truex Jr. 78
4 Denny Hamlin 11
5 Brad Keselowski 2

The following are highlights from this afternoon’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series coverage on NBCSN.

POST-RACE COVERAGE

Allen on Kyle Busch breaking his 36-race winless streak: “We knew that Kyle Busch wouldn’t forget how to celebrate after a win. It has been quite some time since he has been able to grab that checkered flag.”

Jarrett on race winner Kyle Busch: “That is the mark of a championship-caliber team and driver. To bounce back from a huge disappointment, when it was looking like he had a shot to win the Brickyard 400 last week, and then come back the very next week and win.”

STAGE 3

Burton on potential Playoff implications: “If you are going to have a new winner this year, you want it to be Kyle Busch. He is way ahead, of everyone who hasn’t won, in points. You don’t want the guy that is behind you, or just one point ahead of you in points, to win.”

Letarte on Kyle Busch’s winless streak: “So many races they have either led the most laps, or had the best car in the closing laps. The list goes on and on, of how the wins have slipped away.”

Allen added: “It is not like he hasn’t been in position to win. He has led over 1,100 laps this season, and still has yet to win.”

Allen as Kyle Busch bumped Harvick out of the way for the lead with 17 laps to go: “Look how hungry that No. 18 team is for their first win of 2017. It has been a year since they have been to victory lane.”

Burton on Logano’s multiple pit road penalties: “They are working themselves into a must-win situation. With the number of races left, they are really putting themselves in a bad situation. They are going to have to win a race to make the Playoffs.”

STAGE 2

Burton on Clint Bowyer’s first stage-win: “Bowyer’s strength is gaining points. Bowyer is not the guy that is going to win ten races a year. He is a grinder. Play to your strength, get those points and let Clint Bowyer get you to the Playoffs doing what he does best.”

Jarrett on Bowyer’s current standing below the 2017 Playoff cut off line: “They are kind of on a double-edge sword. They have to look at things from two different perspectives. Others have the luxury of having wins, and not having to worry about points. Bowyer’s team has to look at both sides of this.”

Burton on Danica Patrick’s recent Top 15 finishes: “You cannot go from running 20th to winning races. You have to crawl and work your way up. Her crew chief was very complimentary about everything she has been doing this year to be a better race car driver.”

STAGE 1

Jarrett on Stage 1 winner Kyle Busch: “The rest of the field better figure out how to make their cars faster, because we have not seen how fast Kyle Busch can go yet here today. I think Kyle is just managing this race right now. He has the car to beat this afternoon.”

Letarte on aggressive driving: “I think this intensity started last week at Indianapolis, and I think we are going to see it for the next six weeks until Richmond.”

Burton on what caused Kenseth to spin sideways in the first lap of the race: “You hear the teams talk a lot about downforce, but side force matters just as much. When you have side force, and then you lose it, the back of the car can no longer hold the race track. As a driver you do not know it is coming, and that is what we saw with Kenseth.”

PRE-RACE COVERAGE

Kenseth on his future and prospects for the 2018 season: “I am not concerned at all about 2018 at the moment. I’m really concerned about 2017, winning races, being successful and trying to race for a Championship. I am in a great place mentally. Things will line up and things will go how they are meant to go. Whatever that is, I really do not know one hundred percent. But I know it is all going to work out.”

Matt Kenseth’s entire “Driver to Driver” interview with Burton is available here.

Gibbs on the suspension of JGR employees: “We felt like we took the appropriate action. I think when you partner, like we do with Furniture Row on pit crews, you do not envision something like this happening.”

Joe Gibbs’ entire interview with Snider is available here.
