NBC SPORTS AND NASCAR PRODUCTIONS PRESENT “SOUTHERN SPEED: THE LEGEND OF DARLINGTON,” A ONE-HOUR ORIGINAL SPECIAL TONIGHT AT 9 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

August 31, 2016 By admin

Multi-Platinum Recording Artist Darius Rucker Narrates the Feature Honoring the Historic and Unpredictable Darlington Raceway

STAMFORD, Conn. – August 31, 2016 – Leading up to this weekend’s live NASCAR action from Darlington Raceway, NBC Sports presents a new one-hour documentary created to take fans inside the storied history of “The Track Too Tough To Tame.” Produced in partnership with NASCAR Productions, “Southern Speed: The Legend of Darlington” premieres tonight at 9 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

Multi-platinum recording artist Darius Rucker narrates the special in tribute to his South Carolina roots. Current NASCAR drivers Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson and Kurt Busch are joined by Ken Squier and racing legends Dale Jarrett, Kyle Petty and Jeff Burton, who reflect on how the Southern 500 became a stock car racing tradition.

Premiering during a week dedicated to honoring the rich history of NASCAR, the original program will also be available via live stream on the NBC Sports App and NBCSports.com. NBC Sports presents live coverage of the Bojangles’ Southern 500 Sunday, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m. ET on NBC. A release detailing NBC Sports’ NASCAR coverage from Darlington Raceway will be distributed later today.

A preview of tonight’s special is available here. Below are excerpts from “Southern Speed: The Legend of Darlington:”

Kyle Petty, former driver and NASCAR on NBC analyst: “Bill France was there and Raymond Parks was there. So many Hall of Famers were there for that first race and that speaks volumes to what Darlington was, even in the beginning.”

Buz McKim, NASCAR Historian: “Darlington never has been a normal track and it never will be. There is too much folklore, there is too much history and there are too many great spots and low spots. It is totally the track of the unexpected.”

Dale Jarrett, Hall of Fame driver and NASCAR on NBC analyst: “The idea to go back to Labor Day and run the Southern 500 is something that our sport really needed.”

Harold Brasington III, grandson of Darlington Raceway founder: “I have to admit I felt pretty special knowing that my granddad built this place. I can remember the first time he drove me up into the infield through that tunnel it was like a portal into another world. I saw these structures coming out of the beds of pickup trucks. The crowd was overwhelming.”

All of NBC Sports Group’s NASCAR coverage is available to stream on NBCSports.com and via the NBC Sports app. The NBC Sports app is powered by Playmaker Media, and is available on the iTunes App Store, Google Play, Windows Store, Roku Channel Store, Apple TV and Amazon Fire.

Three-Hour Program to Cover Breaking News & Analysis of the Latest Transfer Storylines

NBC’s Manchester United-Hull City on Saturday Averages 1.16 Million Viewers; Most Live-Streamed Premier League Weekend Ever

Live Match Coverage Continues Next Saturday, September 10, with Blockbuster Manchester Derby at 7:30 a.m. ET on NBCSN

STAMFORD, Conn. – August 30, 2016 – NBCSN presents a special, three-hour Premier League Live: Transfer Deadline Day tomorrow, Wednesday, August 31, live at 5 p.m. ET. The program will cover breaking news and include insights and analysis on all the latest transfers. Rebecca Lowe hosts the program, joined by former Major League Soccer and U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Kyle Martino, former Jamaican National Team Player Robbie Earle, and former Premier League footballer Robbie Mustoe.

NBC’s broadcast of Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Hull City on Saturday, August 27, averaged 1.16 million viewers to rank as the eighth most-watched live Premier League match in U.S. history (tied with Man City-Man United, 3/20/16 on NBC, and West Ham-Man City, 1/23/16 on NBC). In addition, last weekend ranks as the most streamed Premier League weekend (Sat.-Sun.) in history, with 28.6 million minutes streamed on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app.

Live Premier League match coverage continues next Saturday, September 10, with a blockbuster Manchester Derby as Manchester United host Manchester City at 7:30 a.m. ET on NBCSN. This season’s first installment of the Manchester Derby is one of the most anticipated fixtures of the year as both clubs have new managers in charge, with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United and Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. The two world-class managers have a heated history from their time overlapping in Spain (2010-2012), where Mourinho led Real Madrid while Guardiola was in charge of archrivals Barcelona. Now, the managerial foes are in the same city, bringing an extra layer of intrigue to the always-electric Manchester Derby. Coverage begins Saturday at 6:30 a.m. ET with Premier League Live.

All Premier League games will be streamed on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app, NBC Sports Group’s live streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, tablets, and connected TVs. The NBC Sports app will stream all matches via “TV Everywhere,” giving consumers additional value to their subscription service, and making high quality content available to MVPD customers both in and out of the home and on multiple platforms. Powered by Playmaker Media, the NBC Sports app is available on Apple iOS, Android and select Samsung devices, as well as on Amazon Fire, Apple TV, Chromecast, and Roku.
