MLB-on-FoxGame 2 Viewership Up 9%; Series Up 13% Over 2012

Network Wins Second Consecutive Night in Primetime

New York, NY – A World Series sweep is not in the cards for the Red Sox this time as St. Louis ends Boston’s nine-game winning streak in the Fall Classic and sets the stage for more exciting action from St. Louis.

World Series Game 2 on FOX scored an 8.3/14 national household rating/share and averaged 13.4 million viewers according to Nielsen Media Research. Last night’s game is up 6% in rating and 9% in viewership over last year’s 7.8/12 (12.3 million viewers).

Last night’s game powered the network to a first place finish in primetime television for the second consecutive night, averaging an 8.3/14 from 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM. It is FOX’s best Thursday night since the American Idol finale in May and won the night in many key demographics including Men 18-34 (3.6), Men 18-49 (4.5), Adults 18-34 (2.9) and Adults 18-49 (3.6). World Series Game 1 and 2 mark the first time that FOX has won primetime on consecutive nights since two-night American Idol finale episodes in May.

World Series Game 2 opened with a 6.3/11 and grew steadily through the exciting contest and peaked from 10:00 – 10:30 PM ET posting a 9.6/15 as 15.6 million viewers watched the Cardinals rally to even the series.

Through Games 1 & 2, the World Series in FOX is averaging an 8.5/14 and 13.9  million viewers nationally, up 10% in rating and 13% in viewership over last year’s 7.7/12 (12.3 million viewers). FOX’s LCS/World Series postseason average is up 16% from 2012 (5.7/10, 6 ALCS, 2 WS games) vs. (4.9/8, 7 NLCS, 2 WS games).

While the Cardinals won the game, the Red Sox won the social media battle on Facebook.  According to Facebook, Game 2 generated 4.7 million interactions from 2.7 million users.  Red Sox fans were responsible for 58% of the comments, likes and posts, compared to 42% buzz from Cardinals fans.  Men 25-34 and Men 35-44 led all demos.  There have been more than 11 million interactions on Facebook related to the World Series through Games 1 and 2.

According to figures released by Nielsen SocialGuide, Twitter activity for last night’s World Series Game 2 saw impressive increases over 2012. The game drew over 452,000 tweets (up 63% from 2012 World Series Game 2) from more than 222,000 unique authors (up 52%) and was the No. 1 social telecast of the night in all categories.

St. Louis led all markets with a 42.0/61, its best MLB postseason rating since Game 7 of the 2011 World Series, followed by Boston’s 37.3/57. Providence (33.8/49), Hartford (21.1/32), Kansas City (13.9/22), Fort Myers (12.3/19), Richmond (11.7/18), Memphis (11.0/16), Detroit (10.0/16), and Greensboro (9.8/14) round out the top ten markets for Thursday night’s broadcast.

McCarver compares the 2013 Red Sox/Cardinals World Series to their 2004 matchup: “This World Series is going to be totally different than 2004.  No team in baseball would’ve beat the Boston Red Sox in 2004 once they came back and won the Yankees series like they did (being down 3-0 in the ALCS) and having to win four games in a row.  It’s different because the Cardinals can match the Red Sox hitters with young pitchers in the bullpen, and the list of terrific players are on both sides – guys who are respected by their peers.  How can you respect anybody more than Yadier Molina or Dustin Pedroia?  Both are the blood and guts of their respective teams.”

nfl_network-logoAndrea Kremer Catches Up with Former NFL Quarterback Jake Plummer

Former Pro Bowl Quarterback Now an Ambassador for USA Football’s Heads Up Football Program – in Alaska

In early 2007, after a 10-year NFL career, Jake Plummer retired from the NFL at 32 years old, just a year removed from leading the Denver Broncos to the brink of the Super Bowl. The former Pro Bowl quarterback concisely sums up his controversial decision, “It was just time.”

Now on NFL.com (http://www.nfl.com/plummer) and tonight at 8:00 PM ET on NFL Network’s flagship show, NFL Total Access, Andrea Kremer catches up with the former Pro Bowl quarterback six years removed from the NFL to delve into his past and highlight his newest passion – an ambassador for USA Football’s Heads Up Football program.

In the feature, and elaborated on throughout Kremer’s written piece, Plummer explains why he walked away and stayed away from football for many years. However, the desire to be around the sport he loves has returned and USA Football’s Heads Up Football program provides him the opportunity to be an advocate and educator for youth football players – in Alaska.

Strong on the importance of this weekend’s matches: “This has been an amazing fall in MLS, and it’s all built up perfectly to this final weekend. Every match has some kind of meaning, whether for the Supporters’ Shield, playoff positioning, or just getting into the postseason. Jeff Gordon Reveals Opportunity That Few People Knew About – Not Even Rick Hendrick – on NASCAR Race Hub

October 25, 2013 By admin

fox-sports-1GORDON ON WHAT RICK HENDRICK MAY NOT HAVE KNOWN: “…I HAD A POTENTIAL FORMULA ONE OFFER AT ONE TIME.”

Talks Candidly About Changing His Approach as He Grows Older

Charlotte, N.C. – Four-time Sprint Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon sat down with NASCAR RACE HUB host Danielle Trotta to talk about his career, and what big opportunity existed early on that car owner Rick Hendrick may not have known about.

Here is what Gordon had to say on Thursday’s (10/14) edition of the show.

Jeff Gordon on pursuing other forms of racing early in his career: “When I first started to come into the NASCAR Nationwide Series – I did both (sprint cars & stock cars) because I was still competing for championships in other series. Once I became more established in the Cup Series with (Rick) Hendrick, it really wasn’t something I thought about. I’ve always enjoyed all forms of racing, if I can get the opportunity and drive another car; have a new experience, like I did with the F1 car and the 24 Hours of Daytona. The one thing that went through my head that I don’t think Hendrick even knew about was that I had a potential Formula One offer at one time. But, it was going to race in lower series – maybe even IndyCar. I was established in Cup; very happy with where I was at, things were going extremely well and that was a whole career change for me, in a racing series I knew very little about from a driving stand point, I was always an oval track driver. But that conversation never happened with Hendrick, that was behind the scenes and I made the choice and the decision on my own. We were coming up on some contracts and I chose to stay with Hendrick and won the championship the next year. It was a good choice.”

Gordon’s response to former crew chief Ray Evernham’s claim that he may want a different feel (in the car) now: “I think that when he and I were together, I was so young and super aggressive. I knew so little about the cars; all I knew was whatever he said, ‘Yep. That’s right.’ Just go out there and drive the wheels off the car. It’s not that, all of a sudden, I’ve started to drive different – the competition is different. What edge we had over the competition is a lot different. I give Ray a lot of credit for that. Have I changed? Absolutely, I’m 42 years old now. I drive using my head a little bit more… a little bit too much at times. I think that’s what happens over time. When you are younger, you’re more aggressive. When your older, you think about when to be aggressive, when to be patient. And as you get older and older, you start to think about patience, and less about the aggressiveness.

On his children’s level of understanding: “For (daughter) Ella, she has a pretty good understanding being six. For (son) Leo, every day I come home and if I was testing, or if I had just went to the race shop, did you win? I love having them at the race track. That also brings a lot of pride, joy and motivation for me to go out there and represent my team, my family and be the best driver that I can be out there – and also try to go to victory lane more often.
