STAMFORD, Conn. – Oct. 18, 2022 – Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins (3-3) host Mitchell Trubisky and the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-4) in the Week 7 edition of NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET with Football Night in America, followed by kickoff at 8:20 p.m. ET from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Fla., on NBC, Peacock and Universo.
Sunday night’s game is Tagovailoa’s first game back since being knocked out of Week 4’s contest against the Bengals with a concussion. The Dolphins were 3-0 at the time, but have lost three straight without their starting quarterback. Sunday marks the 42nd appearance for the Steelers on SNF, moving them into a second-place tie with the Eagles and Packers for second-most appearance in SNF history, trailing only the Cowboys (56). This will be the fourth appearance for the Dolphins and their first since 2017.
Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has starred for Miami in his first season with the team. He leads the NFL in receiving yards (701) and receiving yards per game (116.8) and is second in receptions (50). He is the first player in NFL history to record at least 10 receptions and 150 receiving yards in three of his team’s first six games of a season. Fellow Dolphins WR Jaylen Waddle has had a strong start as well, ranking in the top-five in the league in receiving yards and receiving yards per game in his sophomore season.
The Steelers upset the Buccaneers, 20-18, behind 144 passing yards and a touchdown from Mitchell Trubisky, who replaced starter Kenny Pickett after he was removed from the game with a concussion in the third quarter. Pickett has not been ruled out for Sunday. Chase Claypool had seven receptions for 96 yards and a score while Najee Harris added 49 total yards (42 rushing, seven receiving) and a touchdown in the win.
Sunday celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Miami Dolphins, the only Super Bowl champion to go undefeated. Led by head coach Don Shula – the winningest head coach in NFL history – and with a roster featuring future Hall of Famers such as quarterback Bob Griese, running back Larry Csonka, wide receiver Paul Warfield, offensive linemen Jim Langer and Larry Little, and linebacker Nick Buoniconti, the 1972 Dolphins went 14-0 in the regular season en route to winning Super Bowl VII and completing the perfect 17-0 season.
Calling Steelers-Dolphins is Mike Tirico (play-by-play); 17-time Emmy Award winner Cris Collinsworth (analyst); and Melissa Stark (sideline reporter). Three-time Super Bowl referee Terry McAulay is the Sunday Night Football rules analyst.
NBC’s coverage of Sunday Night Football is led by executive producer Rob Hyland and director Drew Esocoff. SNF has won a record 11 Sports Emmys for Outstanding Live Sports Series.
Football Night in America features host Maria Taylor, Hall of Fame head coach Tony Dungy, former NFL head coach Jason Garrett, former NFL quarterback Chris Simms, NFL Insider Mike Florio, who will contribute remotely from his home studio, and fantasy sports industry pioneer Matthew Berry. Jac Collinsworth and two-time Super Bowl champion Rodney Harrison will provide reports at the site of the game.

** Thanksgiving Night Game
Flexible scheduling will be used in Weeks 11-18. Additionally, in Weeks 5-10, flexible scheduling may be used in no more than two weeks. In Weeks 5-17, the schedule lists the games tentatively set for Sunday Night Football on NBC. Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game would be moved to an afternoon start time.
For Week 18, two Saturday games and the Sunday night game will be announced no later than six days prior to January 9. The schedule does not list Saturday games or a Sunday night game in Week 18, but games with playoff implications will be moved to those time slots. Flexible scheduling ensures quality matchups in all Sunday time slots in those weeks and gives “surprise” teams a chance to play their way into primetime.
