STAMFORD, Conn. – August 6, 2021 – NBC Olympics’ commentators Terry Gannon, Tara Lipinski, and Johnny Weir will host NBC’s primetime coverage of the Closing Ceremony for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad from Tokyo Olympic Stadium, it was announced today. Coverage begins in primetime, Sunday, August 8 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC.
“We look forward to Terry, Tara, and Johnny guiding us through the Closing Ceremony as only they can – with a fashionably fun take on the pageantry and the parade of athletes who competed in Tokyo,” said Molly Solomon, Executive Producer & President, NBC Olympics Production.
Sunday’s Closing Ceremony will also feature interviews, profiles, a countdown of the top five moments of the games, and more. In addition, the Jonas Brothers will debut an Olympics inspired edition of their hit single “Remember This” recounting unforgettable moments of the Tokyo Olympics, and Dwayne Johnson introduces athletes in the upcoming Paralympics.
Lewis Johnson, who worked the Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony, will serve as a reporter for the Closing Ceremony for the third time (2002 Salt Lake, 2016 Rio).
Kara Winger, who in Tokyo competed in her fourth Summer Games in javelin, was selected by her teammates to serve as the flag bearer for the United States.
Mike Tirico will open Sunday’s primetime coverage on NBC at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT with Tokyo Gold, a look back at the Games’ most memorable performances, including Steve Kornacki with some of the Games’ most unique stories.
Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbajabiamila, the hosts of Peacock’s Tokyo LIVE throughout the Games, will host live Closing Ceremony coverage at 7 a.m. ET/4 a.m. PT across Peacock, NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app. Sunday’s Closing Ceremony is the fifth consecutive that NBCUniversal will stream live.
Gannon, Lipinski, and Weir previously served as hosts for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics Closing Ceremony. NBC Olympics.com and the NBC Sports app will also stream NBC’s fully-produced presentation of the Closing Ceremony at 8 p.m. ET. Following the broadcast, NBC’s primetime presentation of the Closing Ceremony will be available on-demand on Peacock.
