Darling on the Royals: “I love the Royals. They have something magical working with their fans and they have something magical working on the field. More importantly, the way the game is played today, they’ve got it. If they beat you through six [innings], they’re going to beat you [in nine innings]. They don’t score a lot of runs but their bullpen has been unbelievable.”
Darling on Royals veteran Omar Infante: “He is a clutch player. He’s the kind of guy that will do anything to win. He’ll hit the ball the other way and he’s a good hit-and-run guy. He does all the little things that helps a team win.” Darling on what the Royals learned from being in the 2013 AL Central race: “They learned a lot from last year. They were trying to hunt down the Detroit Tigers and were kind of in the race last year. They saw the trappings that can come with [being in the race] like all the media attention. They grew from that and it will help them this year.” Darling on the Royals learning how to compete on a big stage like Yankee Stadium: “Part of becoming a postseason team…you have to learn how to play [at Yankee Stadium] and win. It’s like an art lover going to the Louvre. If you’re a baseball player, you come to Yankee Stadium.” |
|
Darling on Derek Jeter: “He wasn’t the best player in the league and sometimes, he wasn’t the best player on his own team, but he was the best winner that baseball has had in a long time.”
Darling on the Yankees’ offensive struggles: “In [Yankee Stadium], you try to put together a team that will pull the ball and hit it out of the ballpark. They haven’t found that this year.” |
