DOVER, Del. – Oct. 4, 2015 – NBCSN presents the pivotal Sprint Cup race from Dover’s “Monster Mile” this afternoon, a race that will cut the Chase field of 16 down to only 12 drivers. With only 40 minutes of practice time on the one-mile concrete oval leading up to today’s race, drivers face 400 miles of mostly unknown road.
NBCSN’s pre-race NASCAR Sprint Cup racing coverage began with NASCAR America Sunday presented by DraftKings, followed by Countdown to Green Served by Sonic. Krista Voda hosted the pre-race action alongside NASCAR on NBCSN analyst Kyle Petty and NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Dale Jarrett. Rick Allen calls this afternoon’s Sprint Cup race from the “Monster Mile” alongside Daytona 500-winning crew chief Steve Letarte and 21-time Sprint Cup winner Jeff Burton. Marty Snider, Mike Massaro, Kelli Stavast and Dave Burns contribute from pit road.
The following are highlights from this afternoon’s NASCAR Sprint Cup pre-race coverage on NBCSN.
Tony Stewart to Burton in a pre-race Driver to Driver feature: “I think for real racers, racing is like food, you never get enough. You don’t say you never have to eat anymore. There is never a day you say, ‘well that was my last meal.’ I think for real racers, racing is how they survive. You have to win races you have to run well, you never can win enough.”
Jarrett on Stewart’s retirement decision: “There are no models out there to tell you when it is the right time (to retire), for competitors or athletes…no one from the outside can tell you when that is, you have to believe it in your heart.”
In Countdown to Green’s Driver to Driver feature, Bowyer on his roller coaster season: “You have to go after that dream, you have to chase it and never give up and keep digging to try and win Championships and win races.”
Jarrett on Bowyer’s persistence going into Dover: “It is going to be a tough day for him, but you really have to admire what Clint has done in trying to keep this Michael Waltrip Racing team together.”
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. to Burns before the race: “We didn’t get a lot of practice, but I like what my car is doing. It is hard to measure ourselves against the rest of the competition with the limited practice we had.”
Jarrett’s advice for Dale Earnhardt, Jr. before the race: “I think the biggest thing is to stay calm, which he does most of the time. He understands the pressure and handling these types of situations.”
Kevin Harvick to Snider on pit road: “We are going to fight until the very last lap. I think that is one good thing that Tony Stewart has always told us. It is never over until they throw the checkered flag, so just keep fighting.”
Matt Kenseth to Burton during the pace lap: “It is kind of feast or famine (at Dover). I have always enjoyed the track. It is so unique and unlike any other track we go to on the circuit.”
