
INTERNATIONAL ICE HOCKEY FEDERATION PRESIDENT RENÉ FASEL IS TODAY’S GUEST ON “NHL HOUR WITH COMMISSIONER GARY BETTMAN”
NEW YORK (February 18, 2010) – For the first time ever, NHL Hour With Commissioner Gary Bettman (NHL.com and SIRIUS XM Radio) will broadcast live from the Olympic Winter Games. René Fasel, president of the International Ice Hockey Federation will join the Commissioner for NHL Hour beginning at 6 p.m. ET from the site of the International Broadcast Centre in Vancouver.
Fasel, a native of Fribourg, Switzerland was elected IIHF President in June 1994 following a lengthy amateur hockey career and years as an international referee. Together with Commissioner Bettman, Fasel helped orchestrate an agreement in 1995 which allowed NHL players to compete, for the first time, at the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano in 1998. NHL players have since competed at Salt Lake City in 2002 and Turin in 2006.
The hockey competition enters Day 3 with another slate of preliminary round matches — Team USA (1-0) plays Norway (0-1) at 3 p.m. ET, Switzerland (0-1) takes on host country Canada (1-0) at 7:30 pm. ET and Slovakia (0-1) faces Russia (1-0) at midnight ET.
NHL Hour with Commissioner Gary Bettman broadcasts live on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET on NHL Home Ice (XM Channel 204 and on SIRIUS Channel 208 as part of the “Best of XM” programming package) and NHL.com. The show will re-air on SIRIUS XM Radio, with archived shows available for download via podcast on NHL.com.
