NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES TEAMS AT HOME IN CHARLOTTE THIS WEEKEND AFTER KANSAS PROVED DISASTROUS FOR MANY CHASE CONTENDERS
Several Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup contenders, notably six-time and defending champion Jimmie Johnson, hope for a fresh start this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway after what was a disastrous day for many at Kansas Speedway.
Kansas claimed Johnson in an accident that relegated him to a 40th-place finish, tying his worst showing in a Chase race, while Hendrick Motorsports teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. led 45 laps before sustaining a flat tire that put him into the wall and the 39th spot. Four-time champion Jeff Gordon also had trouble, along with Brad Keselowski and Kasey Kahne. Joey Logano bucked the trend, though, finding Victory Lane to punch his ticket to the third round of the playoffs, the Eliminator 8.
Charlotte, which hosts the second of three races in the Contender Round, the second of four rounds in the Chase, is home to the majority of NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES teams and plays host to the Chase’s only night race on Saturday evening. FOX Sports 2 and FOX Sports GO offer live pre-race coverage from Charlotte, as Logano leads Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Ryan Newman, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Kahne, Keselowski, Earnhardt Jr. and Johnson in the Chase standings. A win at Charlotte or at Talladega next weekendautomatically advances a driver to the Eliminator 8.
