BOB COSTAS AND TOM VERDUCCI TO COUNT DOWN THE 20 GREATEST BASEBALL GAMES OF THE LAST 50 SEASONS
50 Nominated Games to be Introduced on MLB Network on December 14; The Top 20 Will Be Revealed in January 2011
Secaucus, NJ, December 13, 2010 – From Fisk and Gibson to Jeter and Halladay, some of the greatest games in Major League Baseball history were played in the last half century. MLB Network’s Bob Costas and Tom Verducci will rank the best of the last 50 seasons as part of MLB’s 20 Greatest Games, beginning with an introduction of the 50 nominated games tomorrow, December 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. The nominated games include a variety of regular season, Postseason and World Series games with extra innings, perfect or near-perfect pitching performances and game-ending home runs. A preview of the countdown can be viewed here.
“Every baseball fan, from the casual to the most serious, will love revisiting these epic games,” said Verducci. “The baseball itself is exciting, of course, but now the passage of time and the stories behind the events give the games new layers of depth and drama. Like classic literature, music or cinema, these games stand the test of time and are well worth discovering all over again.”
To determine the top-20 ranking, MLB Network has assembled a blue ribbon panel of sports journalists and media personalities to provide their input, while fans can submit their choices by voting on MLBNetwork.com and MLB.com starting December 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET until January 1, 2011.
