STAMFORD, Conn. – November 16, 2015 – NBCSN presents a Wednesday Night Rivalry showdown from one of the NHL’s most historic arenas, when Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals travel to Joe Louis Arena to face Henrik Zetterberg and the Detroit Red Wings this Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
This week’s NHL coverage begins tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN, when Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins host Ryan Suter and the Minnesota Wild. NBC Sports Live Extra – NBC Sports Group’s live streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, tablets and connected TVs – will stream this week’s NHL action.
Three-time Emmy Award-winning play-by-play commentator Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member and analyst Eddie Olczyk, and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will have the Wednesday Night Rivalry call from Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich. Gord Miller (play-by-play) and McGuire (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will provide commentary of Wild-Penguins from CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT RIVALRY: CAPITALS-RED WINGS – WEDNESDAY AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBCSN
This week’s Wednesday Night Rivalry matchup between the Capitals and Red Wings marks the second meeting between the two teams in eight days. Last Tuesday, Detroit goaltender Petr Mrazek stopped all 38 shots he faced as the Red Wings shut out the Capitals, 1-0, in Detroit. The Red Wings offense has gotten a boost from rookie Dylan Larkin, currently tied for second on the team with 11 points (4g/7a).
Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is averaging just over a point per game, with eight goals and eight assists in 15 contests. He tied a career high with 15 shots on goal in Washington’s 1-0 loss to Detroit last Tuesday. Ovechkin currently ranks second on the club in points behind second-year forward Evgeny Kuznetsov (17 points).

WILD-PENGUINS – TOMORROW NIGHT AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN
NBCSN presents an interconference matchup tomorrow night between Minnesota and Pittsburgh, as the Wild make their only visit of the 2015-16 season to the Steel City. The Wild boast a 10-3-3 record and are tied with Montreal and Nashville for the second-fewest regulation losses in the NHL. Minnesota has recorded a point in seven of its last eight games (5-1-2), and has continued its strong play despite the absence of Zach Parise, who has missed the last three games due to injury.
The Penguins’ defense has led the club to a 10-7-0 record to start the season, tied with the Capitals for the second-fewest goals allowed in the Eastern Conference. Pittsburgh defeated Montreal last week on Wednesday Night Rivalry by a score of 4-3 in the shootout, but has dropped its last two games to Columbus and New Jersey.

Through 14 games on NBCSN, the 2015-16 NHL regular season has averaged 413,000 viewers, up 11% vs. the 2014-15 season to date (372,000). The NHL on NBCSN has reached a total audience of 7.668 million viewers, up 8% from the same point in the 2014-15 season (7.086 million).
Digitally, the 2015-16 NHL regular season on NBC Sports Live Extra is averaging one million live minutes per game and 21,000 uniques, up 111% and 60%, respectively, vs. the 2014-15 season to date (15 games; 493,000 minutes and 13,000 uniques).
