*PROGRAMMING ALERT* – MIKAELA SHIFFRIN CHASES ALL-TIME RECORD FOR CONSECUTIVE FIS WORLD CUP SLALOM WINS LIVE ON NBCSN THIS THURSDAY

December 28, 2016 By admin

Shiffrin Goes for 7th Straight World Cup Slalom Victory

Race Moved from UniHD to NBCSN Live at 11:30 a.m. ET on Thursday

STAMFORD, Conn. – December 27, 2016 – Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin can win her seventh straight FIS World Cup slalom when she races in Semmering, Austria, this Thursday, which would leave her within one of the all-time women’s slalom record. As a result, NBC Sports is shifting its coverage of the race from UniHD to NBCSN live at 11:30 a.m. ET.

Since February 25, 2016, Shiffrin has won all six slalom events on the World Cup tour. The women’s slalom record of eight straight is held by Vreni Schneider of Switzerland, who accomplished the feat from 1988-89, and Janica Kostelic of Croatia, who did so from 2000-2001. Overall, Shiffrin has won the past 11 world cup slalom races that she has entered, a streak interrupted by injury last season.

NBCSN’s coverage will begin at 11:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, with highlights from the competition’s first run and live coverage of the second run, which determines the final result. NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app — NBC Sports Group’s live streaming platforms for desktops, mobile devices, tablets, and connected TVs — will provide live streaming coverage of both runs from Semmering.

If Shiffrin wins this week, NBCSN will provide live coverage of her attempt to tie the record at Zagreb, Croatia, on Tuesday, January 3, at 10 a.m. ET. The following slalom race, at Maribor, Slovenia, is already scheduled live on NBCSN on Sunday, January 8, at 6 a.m. ET.

Shiffrin, 21, won the gold medal in slalom at the 2014 Sochi Olympics at the age of 18, making her the youngest-ever Olympic slalom champion. Hailing from Vail, Colorado, Shiffrin has already won 22 career World Cup slaloms, her first at the age of 17.
