HAMMOND AND MCREYNOLDS EXCITED FOR GEN-6 CAR – NASCAR on FOX and SPEED analysts Jeff Hammond and Larry McReynolds offered their takes on the new Gen-6 car to and talked about what it will mean for racing this season. Both agree that the Gen-6 car is more accessible to the fan, and both are excited for the possibilities it brings this season.

“The manufacturers have done an outstanding job as far as identification. That’s for all you fans out there that aren’t necessarily a Dale Jr., Jimmie Johnson or Tony Stewart fan, but a fan of Chevrolet for example,” said Hammond. “Now your make resembles something you can go down to your local dealership and ask for.”

“I’ve been around NASCAR for over 30 years and I’ve seen a lot of changes,” said McReynolds.  “As we get ready for 2013, I’ve never seen so much energy and excitement as I’ve seen about this new Gen-6 body style,” said McReynolds. “It looks like a race car and more relevant to what the consumer can buy and drive on the streets.”

“In Daytona, I think it’s all but going to put an end to bump-drafting,” McReynolds added, citing differences in the car’s bumpers. “It’s going to take a little bit of a step back in time when these drivers actually had to draft one another. They’re going to have to figure out exactly how close to get to the driver in front of them. This 55th running of the Daytona 500 with the Gen-6 car could be the most exciting one we’ve seen in a long time.”
