June 3, 2009 – MLB Network today announced the talent line-up for its coverage of the MLB 2009 First-Year Player Draft in Studio 42 in Secaucus, New Jersey on Tuesday, June 9th. MLB Network host Greg Amsinger and MLB Network analysts Harold Reynolds and John Hart will be joined by MLB Scouting Bureau Director Frank Marcos to anchor the broadcast while MLB.com senior writer Jonathan Mayo and Baseball America executive editor Jim Callis will also provide analysis.
As general manager of the Cleveland Indians from 1991 to 2001, Hart drafted Dodgers left fielder Manny Ramirez in 1991 and Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia in 1998 as first-round picks. Hart is also the former general manager of and current special advisor to the Texas Rangers. Reynolds, a former MLB second baseman for 12 seasons, was a first-round draft pick for the Seattle Mariners in 1980.
“As the First-Year Player Draft has grown as an event over the years, the interest from fans has grown exponentially,” said John Entz, Senior Vice President of Production for MLB Network. “Our group of experts will share insights throughout the event and guide viewers on how it works, providing a comprehensive perspective for viewers.”
Coverage of the first round will begin on MLB Network at 6:00 p.m. ET, with the first pick scheduled to be announced at 6:15 p.m. ET by Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig. MLB.com will simulcast MLB Network’s coverage and, beginning with the compensation round (the 33rd overall pick), MLB.com will air a live video stream from Studio 42 for the remainder of the day’s selections. MLB Tonight, scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. ET, also will provide coverage and analysis as the Draft continues to unfold.
