NEW YORK – February 20, 2013 – Sirius XM Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) announced today that former NFL general manager and pro personnel executive Scott Pioli has joined the roster of expert hosts on SiriusXM NFL Radio (channel 88 with Sirius and XM Premier).
Pioli, who most recently served as GM of the Kansas City Chiefs following a stretch with the New England Patriots that saw the team win three Super Bowl Championships, will make his debut as an analyst during SiriusXM NFL Radio’s coverage of the NFL Combine in Indianapolis from February 21 through February 24.
Pioli will also contribute to the channel throughout the year as a host on various shows.
“I’m excited to join SiriusXM NFL Radio and the excellent team they have put together,” said Pioli. “I know people, both in and out of the NFL, who use the channel as their daily source of news and info. I’m looking forward to being a part of that and talking football with fans around the country.”
“Scott has one of the brightest minds in pro football, and he’s a tremendous addition to our roster on SiriusXM NFL Radio,” said Steve Cohen, SiriusXM’s SVP of Sports Programming. “He brings a level of insight and perspective on the league that few can provide and our listeners will really enjoy discussing their favorite teams and players with him, starting with this week at the Combine.”
Pioli’s career as a NFL pro personnel executive and evaluator spans more than 20 years. In 1992 he was hired by Bill Belichick, the then head coach of the Cleveland Browns, and worked for the Browns and the Ravens from 1992 through 1996, where he was responsible for evaluating college prospects and free agents and negotiating player contracts. In 1997 he joined the New York Jets as the team’s director of pro personnel and is credited with a number of signings that helped the team improve from a 1-15 record in 1996 to a 12-4 record and a division title in 1998.
In 2000 Pioli joined the New England Patriots and became vice president of player personnel. He and coach Bill Belichick, working with a philosophy of bringing in players who fit into the Patriots’ “team concept,” built a team known for its remarkable consistency and depth. Over his eight seasons in the team’s front office, the Pats were a perennial championship contender, winning 14 playoff games and three Super Bowl titles.
In 2009, Pioli was hired as GM of the Kansas City Chiefs. In his second season with the franchise, the team improved from last to first place in the AFC West and won its first division title since 2003, earning Pioli NFL Executive of the Year honors for the fifth time.
From Feb. 21-24, SiriusXM NFL Radio will offer extensive coverage of the annual NFL Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. SiriusXM’s expert hosts include some of the most experienced and successful front office executives in the history of the league, such as Gil Brandt, Bill Polian, Scott Pioli and Pat Kirwan. They will provide up-to-the-moment reports on the NFL prospects and their performances, interview players, and discuss franchise needs with NFL coaches and team executives.
