TNT Revs Up Its Innovative Wide Open Coverage this Saturday in Primetime for the Coke Zero 400

TNT Revs Up Its Innovative Wide Open Coverage this Saturday in Primetime for the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona powered by Coca-Cola

Special 3D Presentation of Race Available On NASCAR.COM and Select Television Distributors

Special Pre-Race Elements Include Dale Earnhardt Tribute and No. 14 Tony Stewart Joining the Studio Show

TNT’s groundbreaking Wide Open television format will return for the fourth consecutive year during the network’s exclusive coverage of the primetime Coke Zero 400 at Daytona powered by Coca-Cola on Saturday, July 3rd. The format provides continuous race coverage free of national commercial breaks and features more unobstructed race action than that of a standard telecast by using a letterbox widescreen format.  In place of the national ads, the telecast features a variety of animated sponsor messages, unique branded content and distinct on-screen graphic elements.  Wide Open Coverage debuted on TNT during the 2007 Daytona 400 race and has resulted in only nine missed laps of green flag racing in three years, and zero for last year’s race.

The eight national sponsors featured in this year’s innovative telecast include Coke Zero, Burger King, Coors Light, Goodyear, Dimension Films’ Piranha 3-D, Sprint, Subway and Toyota.

TNT, in partnership with NASCAR Media Group, will also present NASCAR’s first foray into 3D programming with a special presentation of the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona powered by Coca-Cola being made available through TNT RaceBuddy on NASCAR.COM (NASCAR.COM/RaceBuddy3D).  In addition to the mosaic of HD-quality complementary unique camera angles available on TNT RaceBuddy on NASCAR.COM each week, two custom racing feeds, sponsored by Coca-Cola, will be produced specifically for 3D. The first will provide a unique look at the racing action from strategically placed cameras around the track designed to maximize the effect of 3D. The second stream will bring the mayhem of pit row into the third dimension creating a one-of-a-kind visual experience.  In addition to NASCAR.COM, DIRECTV, Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks will also air the 3D production.

The network will rev up its pre-race coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET with Countdown to Green with Lindsay Czarniak (host), Petty and McReynolds.  TNT will air a special feature on legendary driver No. 3 Dale Earnhardt to honor the approaching anniversary of his fatal race at the 2001 Daytona 500. Offering their memories and thoughts on the Hall of Fame driver are former owner Richard Childress, crew chief Larry McReynolds and pit crew teammates Chocolate Myers and Danny Lawrence. Joining the studio show prior to the race will be No. 14 Tony Stewart, defending champion of the Coke Zero 400 and winner of the July race three times in the past five years.

TNT will air the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona powered by Coca-Cola beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET with play-by-play announcer Adam Alexander calling the race alongside analysts Kyle Petty and Wally Dallenbach in the booth.  In addition, analyst Larry McReynolds will make frequent contributions from the in-field as he breaks down crew strategy and analyzes car adjustments using the TNT Offtrack Robotic Car (TORC).   Pit reporters Phil Parsons, Ralph Sheheen, Marty Snider and Matt Yocum will provide reports throughout the race.

In addition to his TNT duties, Petty will appear on Showtime’s Inside NASCAR tonight (June 30) at 10 ET and PT to promote this weekend’s race.

A Big First Week at Wimbledon for ESPN

A Big First Week at Wimbledon for ESPN

It was a week like none other in the long and storied history of The Championships: Wimbledon and through it all, fans enjoyed the action from the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com.  ESPN2’s  audience is up 14% over last year, and hours watched on broadband ESPN3.com are up nearly four-fold.

The Philadelphia Flyers have secured both first and last acts – one of exhilaration and one of disappointment — in this series that chronicles the pursuit of hockey’s holy grail.  The Raising the Cup: 35 Years of Stanley Cup Clinchers series begins in 1975 as two modern-era expansion teams, the Flyers and Buffalo Sabres, meet for the first time in the Stanley Cup Final.  The Flyers win the series in six games.  Flash ahead 35-years to 2010 when the newly crowned Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks beat the Flyers in six games to capture their first Cup in nearly 50 years.

Throughout 35 years of clinchers, fans will have the opportunity to experience again the dynasties of the 1970s (Montreal Canadiens), 1980s (New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers) and 1990s (Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings).  The Raising the Cup series will take viewers on an emotional roller coaster ride of Game 7 overtimes, surprising contenders and historic ends to franchise droughts.  From the tears of veteran players winning their first Stanley Cup in their last season to stellar rookie performances to the drive to defend the hardest trophy to win, this collection of Stanley Cup clinching games has something for everyone.

Fans also will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite game from each decade by logging onto www.nhl.com throughout the month.  Top vote-getting games will receive encore presentations from August 23-27.

Kerr to Make Select Appearances on NBA TV and NBA.com

TNT announced today a multi-year agreement with five-time NBA Champion Steve Kerr to return to the network as a game analyst, starting with the 2010-11 NBA season. Kerr will join TNT’s NBA Thursday night doubleheader coverage and will be a part of the network’s NBA All-Star weekend and NBA Playoffs coverage.  In addition, he will be a key contributor for NBATV and NBA.com, providing analysis and commentary for The Finals, All Star Weekend and the NBA Draft. Kerr most recently served as president of basketball operations and general manager of the Phoenix Suns.

“I’m fortunate to have worked with two great organizations since the end of my NBA playing career; Turner Sports and the Phoenix Suns,” said Kerr. “As I resume my broadcasting career, I’m excited to return to the Turner Sports family and proud to be associated with such a great group of people.”

“We are thrilled that Steve is returning to TNT to join our marquee roster of announcers,” said Jeff Behnke, executive producer of Turner Sports.  “We look forward to Steve bringing back to Turner Sports his unique insights, candor and game analysis to our telecasts, sharing the added knowledge he gained during his three years building a team as an NBA General Manager.”

Kerr spent four seasons with TNT as a game analyst from 2003-2007, when he called a full slate of regular season and playoff games.  He also worked on TNT marquee events, including three NBA All-Star Games and three consecutive Conference Finals.

Kerr left TNT in 2007 to join the Phoenix Suns, where he was president of basketball operations and general manager for three years. Kerr made several notable trades in his tenure. A 15-year NBA veteran, Kerr’s notable career includes five NBA Championships with the Chicago Bulls (1995-96, 1996-97, 1997-98) and San Antonio Spurs (1998-99 and 2002-03).  He is the all-time best three-point shooter at .454 (726/1,599), as well as the single season leader in three-point accuracy, hitting .524 (89-170) of his attempts during the 1994-95 season.  He appeared in 835 regular season games, averaging 6.2 points, 1.9 assists and 1.2 rebounds in 18.3 minutes per contest throughout his career which included playing for the Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic, Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs and Portland Trail Blazers.

Kevin Harlan partners with Boomer Esiason as Play-by-Play Voice of the Westwood One Monday Night Football Broadcast Team

New York, NY – June 29, 2010– Westwood One announced today that veteran NFL broadcaster Kevin Harlan will join Boomer Esiason as the lead play-by-play voice for Monday Night Football and Super Bowl XLV. Harlan becomes only the fifth regular Monday Night Football play-by-play announcer since the CBS Radio/Westwood One national radio broadcast began in 1978. Harlan follows in the footsteps of Marv Albert (2002-2009), Howard David (1996-2001), Jack Buck (1978-1984, 1987-1995) and Don Criqui (1985-1986).

“Anyone who has ever heard Kevin call a game knows exactly why we are thrilled to add an announcer of his caliber to our NFL talent roster – full-time,” said Gary Schonfeld, President of Westwood One Network. “Fans, stations and advertisers are going to be very happy this fall.”

“I am honored to have been selected as part of Westwood One’s Monday Night Football broadcast team with Boomer Esiason,” said Harlan. “I am truly humbled by the great voices that have held this position, including one of the legends of broadcasting, Marv Albert.”

“Kevin’s detailed descriptions and infectious energy will have NFL fans nationwide huddled around their radios,” added Howard Deneroff, Executive Producer of Westwood One Sports. “I am looking forward to a super season as Kevin and Boomer continue the long legacy of great broadcast teams that have brought the game to life for millions of listeners on Monday nights.”

Kevin Harlan was the play-by-play voice of select Monday Night Football games throughout the 2009 NFL season, as well as for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four on Westwood One from 2003-2007. Harlan currently calls NFL games for CBS Sports, where he has worked continuously since 1998, after having served in the same capacity for Fox Sports since 1994. He also spent nine seasons (1985-93) as the radio voice of the Kansas City Chiefs, and this marks his 26th consecutive season broadcasting the NFL. Harlan also is well-known nationally for his basketball broadcasts, describing both CBS Sports’ coverage of the NCAA Men’s Tournament and the NBA on TNT for more than a decade. Prior to that, Harlan spent nine seasons as the voice of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
