Plaxico Burress sat down with NFL Network’s Mark Kriegel this morning on NFL AM. The following are excerpts from their conversation:
(On if NFL teams are holding his past against him)
“Yes and no. You can’t change the past. I have moved on from it. I wish a lot of other people would also.”
(On the possibly of playing in the NFL this season)
“I just remain optimistic. I am training three or four days a week. I am waiting for the opportunity.”
(On why an NFL team hasn’t signed him)
“You really don’t know what is going on behind the scenes.”
(On what he would bring to an NFL team)
“I am a [red zone threat], a guy that gets one-on-one coverage inside the 30-yard line. That is a security blanket a lot of quarterbacks don’t have in this league.”
(On what he lost being away from football)
“I didn’t have the explosive legs after sitting away. People say I was away from football for 20 months but I was away from football 30 months. For me to come out and do some of the things I did last year, I think it says a lot. I had only two months to get myself back together going into the [2011] season….My mindset going into this season was to get in better shape, get my legs back under me and be ready to play football this season.”
(On if he would want to go play for the New York Jets)
“I just want to go play football. It is not a picking and choosing situation. It is about me going out and doing what I love to do and that’s play football.”
