A championship title and national pride are on the line when undefeated middleweight champ Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (45-0-1, 31 KOs) from Culiacan, Mexico goes up against top contender Andy Lee (28-1, 20 KOs), originally from London and now living in Detroit, in a scheduled 12-round bout.
Chavez Jr., the son of boxing icon Julio Cesar Chavez, is making a name for himself in the sport his father once dominated. The enormously popular 26-year-old has gained the respect of his countrymen, as well as garnering new Americanfans.
Lee, born in England to Irish parents, represented the Emerald Isle in the 2004 Olympics and brings ring speed and skills to the bout, along with his 6’2” frame. The 28-year-old is considered by some to be Chavez Jr.’s toughest challenger to date.
There’s also an intriguing matchup of accomplished trainers in the fight, with Freddie Roach in the corner of Chavez Jr. and Emanuel Steward in Lee’s corner.
