MCCARVER: I DON’T THINK RADAR GUNS ARE THAT MISLEADING! – During an appearance with Fox Sports Radio’s Dan Patrick Show, MLB on FOX lead analyst Tim McCarver was asked if he thought Cincinnati Reds reliever Aroldis Chapman actually threw a ball 106 mph against the Pirates earlier this week. “I think some radar guns can be misleading but I’ve never heard of one being that misleading!  MLB on FOX had Chapman last year in an early September game and when he was warming up he was clocked at 105 mph so yes I do think he threw it that hard,” said McCarver.

WALTRIP NOMINATED FOR 2012 NASCAR HALL OF FAME CLASS – NASCAR announced its list of 25 nominees for the NASCAR Hall of Fame’s third induction class to be enshrined in January 2012.  From that list, five inductees will be elected by the NASCAR Hall of Fame Voting Panel, which includes a nationwide fan vote on NASCAR.COM.  Of the 25 nominees, 20 return from last year’s group, including NASCAR on FOX analyst Darrell Waltrip. This round of nominees, which again includes many of the sport’s legendary names, were selected by a 21-person nominating committee consisting of representatives from NASCAR, the NASCAR Hall of Fame and track owners from both major facilities and historic short tracks. The NHOF’s inductees will be determined by the Voting Panel, which has 54 members – the entire Nominating Committee, media members, manufacturer representatives, retired competitors (drivers, owners, crew chiefs) and recognized industry leaders. In addition, the fan vote will result in the Voting Panel’s 55th and final ballot. Fan voting on NASCAR.COM opens on April 28 and closes June 12.

ROSENTHAL: IT’S TIME TO TRADE REYES – FOX Sports reporter and FOXSports.com senior MLB columnist Ken Rosenthal says the Mets should take advantage of Jose Reyes’ great start and trade him now.   “The Mets are not bereft of shortstop prospects — Ruben Tejada at Triple A, Jordany Valdespin at Double A and the best of all, Wilmer Flores at High Single A. The idea of trading Reyes would be to acquire additional prospects with the goal of building a more well-rounded club.  Shortstop is a thin position throughout the sport. The Giants, Angels, Reds, Brewers and Cardinals are among the teams who would benefit significantly from the addition of Reyes.”

BILLICK: NEWTON HAS A LOT TO PROVE – Cam Newton probably won’t have to wait very long to hear his named called during the NFL Draft but as NFL on FOX analyst Brian Billick points out, a quarterback with his skill set has yet to win a Super Bowl.  “Yes, I do think that he can bring immediate excitement and playmaking ability to a team, but in the long run, he will have to develop his pocket presence and look to make plays with his arm rather than his legs,” said Billick.  “Newton has only 292 passing attempts on his resume, and as one quarterback coach recently told me only about 10 percent of throws in a spread offense are comparable to NFL style routes.  That means that we are asking a club to pay this young man almost $50 million based off game analysis of just 30 throws.”
