FOX SPORTS MEDIA GROUP ANNOUNCES MAJOR PROMOTIONS
Veteran Producer Doug Sellars Assumes Responsibility
for All Studio and Event Production
Emmy Award Winner Scott Ackerson to Head All Studio Programming
FOX Sports Media Group (FSMG) announced today two major promotions. Veteran producer Doug Sellars has been elevated to Executive Vice President, Production and Executive Producer, FOX Sports Media Group. Additionally, Emmy Award-winner Scott Ackerson has been promoted to Executive Vice President and Executive Producer, FSMG, responsible for all studio programming. Both report directly to Randy Freer and Eric Shanks, Co-President and COOs of FOX Sports Media Group.
Sellars oversees all studio and event production for the networks and entities within FSMG, including FOX Sports, Fox Sports Regional Networks, SPEED, FOX Deportes, FOX Soccer, FUEL TV and FOXSports.com as it pertains to digital programming. Sellars also serves in an advisory capacity to the Big Ten Network.
Prior to being named to this position, Sellars’ duties included oversight of Fox Sports Regional Network’s production of nearly 4,000 MLB, NBA, and NHL games, as well as national collegiate programming.
“Doug is a tremendous asset to the FOX Sports family and we know he will enjoy great success in his new role, helping to maintain our standing as the industry leader in sports television production excellence,” said Freer. “Doug’s work ensuring top-notch coverage across Fox Sports Regional Networks has more than prepared him to put his mark on all studio and event production within the FOX Sports Media Group. We look forward to watching Doug continue to propel our properties forward in both traditional and digital programming.”
Ackerson, previously the Coordinating Producer of FOX NFL SUNDAY, is now in charge of all studio programming for the networks and entities within FOX Sports Media Group. Ackerson also serves in an advisory role to the Big Ten Network and oversees a newly-formed production unit that creates feature segments for all FSMG units.
Ackerson joined FOX Sports in 1994, leading FOX NFL SUNDAY to its 17-year run as America’s most-watched NFL pregame show. Under his direction, the network’s signature studio program won four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Studio Show and became a cultural phenomenon watched by millions nationwide every Sunday. Its continuous run at the top places it alongside such iconic programs as “Today” and “60 Minutes.”
“Scott’s enthusiasm and keen eye for talent and chemistry have helped propel FOX NFL SUNDAY to become one of the most impressive sports-TV dynasties in history,” said Shanks. “Scott now has the opportunity to continue his tremendous run by spreading his innovation across all of FOX Sports Media Group’s studio programming. We expect Scott’s guidance and fresh approach to lead these entities to levels of creative excellence that viewers come to expect from FOX Sports.”
Prior to joining FOX Sports, Ackerson honed his craft from 1987 through mid-1994 at ESPN. In addition to his nightly responsibilities as the coordinating producer of SportsCenter, a position he attained in 1993, he had numerous special studio assignments for ESPN, including the World Series, Super Bowl and MLB All-Star Game.
Prior to joining Fox Sports Regional Networks in 2000, Sellars spent 12 years with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation holding a variety of production responsibilities, including senior executive producer.
