New York Giants Host San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football
STAMFORD, Conn. – October 8, 2015 – In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, tomorrow’s “Together We Make Football” segment on TODAY highlights breast cancer survivor and Ocean County, New Jersey native Laura Sclafani.
It was after football practice in fall 2013 when Carmen and Joe Sclafani came home and found their mom distressed. Laura Sclafani had just been diagnosed with breast cancer. The next year, Laura was in the stands to support her sons who were playing for Brick Township High School, in Brick, New Jersey, even as she was undergoing a rigorous schedule of radiation and chemotherapy. Brick Township went on to win the 2014 state title. Now cancer free, Laura attended Brick’s “Pink Out” game this year to watch her youngest son Joe, now a senior and captain, play.
Sunday Night Football, television’s No. 1 primetime show, continues this Sunday, Oct. 11, when the New York Giants host the San Francisco 49ers at MetLife Stadium. Coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET with Football Night in America, the most-watched studio show in sports.
ABOUT “TOGETHER WE MAKE FOOTBALL”
The National Football League and NBC present weekly segments on TODAY for “Together We Make Football,” an invitation to anyone inspired by the game of football – whether as a player at any level, coach or a fan – to share their story for a chance to win a trip to Super Bowl 50.
The campaign will unfold weekly throughout the NFL season with segments airing every Friday on TODAY.
Fans can visit TODAY.COM/TWMF now and share a video or photo, with a description detailing how football inspires them. Stories submitted through Monday, November 2, will be entered into the contest that will produce a winner of a trip to Super Bowl 50 in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Following the deadline for submissions, a joint NFL and NBC panel will select five finalists whose stories will be turned into short features by NFL Films. The features will be unveiled weekly on TODAY beginning Friday, December 4 and the winning story will be announced live on TODAY on January 8, 2016.
This is the latest iteration of the “Together We Make Football” campaign that launched in 2013. Over the past two years, thousands of fans shared their stories of what football means to them. A select few had their stories told on TODAY and some even won trips to Super Bowl.
Stories that air on TODAY also will be posted on NFL.com/videos/twmf throughout the season.
