NFL GameDay Highlights & NFL GameDay Final on NFL Network
(Sundays at 7:30 & 11:30 PM ET)
“The Jets need to be in a hot situation, and then they start playing Jet football.”
— Michael Irvin on the 4-3 New York Jets
“Everything that we thought we would see, we did see. We saw crazy pocket awareness, he’s scrambling for his life, he’s extending plays, he’s missing some throws, he’s running for first downs like we’ve seen in college. … He wins the game in the last couple of minutes. Are you kidding me? This is the Tim Tebow that we’re going to be excited to see going forward.”
— Steve Mariucci on Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow in Denver’s 18-15 overtime victory
“If you went with this guy to the fair, you know that little round thing that you throw the ball into? He may never get it through the hole, but he’s going to walk away with all of the stuffed animals.”
— Deion Sanders on Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, who completed 13 of 27 passes
“That’s what Tim Tebow does. It looked bad – and that’s an understatement; some of his passes looked they wouldn’t even qualify for Punt, Pass and Kick. But Tim Tebow, he wins. I don’t know what it is about this kid. He gets it done, especially when the game is on the line.”
— Deion Sanders on Tebow, who threw for 161 yards and two touchdowns in Denver’s come-from-behind win in overtime
“The way we saw Tim Tebow win today and beat the Miami Dolphins, we talk about not being pretty but showing up in the fourth quarter. The ‘long-term answer’ says that will work against the New England Patriots and teams like that, and I don’t think so. I don’t think that that will work. But we don’t know how good this kid can get. I say right now he certainly deserves some time to see how good he can get.”
— Michael Irvin on if Tim Tebow is the long-term answer in Denver
“This is what they brought Plax in for: he’s a tall guy, he’s a redzone player.”
— Steve Mariucci on Jets wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who had three touchdowns in the 27-21 win over the San Diego Chargers
“Look who has it: the long-time listener, first-time caller of Mike Francesca’s radio show. He hangs up on Philip Rivers.”
— Rich Eisen on an interception by Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis
“When he’s in the game, this is a different ballclub.”
— Michael Irvin on Chargers tight end Antonio Gates
“You will find that this kid Christian Ponder can throw from the run a little bit like this other guy Aaron Rodgers. He’s amazing on the move.”
— Steve Mariucci on Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder, who threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns in his first NFL start
“We talk a lot about Darrelle Revis, but this guy is one of the best to ever do it.”
— Deion Sanders on Packers cornerback Charles Woodson, who had two interceptions in Green Bay’s win over the Minnesota Vikings
“Absolutely. It’s not just that they lost; it’s how they lost. … Most of all, you cannot allow this kind of rush on your defense. Your defense is supposed to be what this team is about. That front four defensive line and you have given up 100 yards like it’s Christmas to all of the running backs that you’re playing.”
— Michael Irvin on if the Detroit Lions have lost a little of the early-season shine following two consecutive losses
“There are only a few guys in the NFL who can take a slant the distance.”
— Deion Sanders on Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who had 115 yards and a touchdown in the loss to the Atlanta Falcons
“Some people put a fork in the Pittsburgh Steelers. I don’t know why.”
— Steve Mariucci on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ win over the Arizona Cardinals
“It’s what the Cowboys offense needs: Tony Romo simply dropping back, Dez Bryant getting open and making easy, simple throw-and-catch plays.”
— Michael Irvin on the Dallas Cowboys in 34-7 win over the St. Louis Rams
“His whole lifestyle was questioned by going into the draft, but I think he’s proven all of his detractors wrong.”
— Deion Sanders on Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, who threw for 256 yards and one touchdown in Carolina’s 33-20 win over the Washington Redskins
Jets WR Plaxico Burress to NFL Network’s Stacey Dales
On catching three touchdown passes:
“Just gratifying. A long time coming and just appreciating every play. For me to go out and be able to have the kind of day that I had, it says more about our offensive coordinator, coaching staff and Mark [Sanchez] just sticking with me and believing that I’m going to make the plays. Just going out and working hard at it every day; we’ve been getting the results in practice but for some reason it hasn’t carried over to the football game. Today we got some results.”
Broncos QB Tim Tebow to NFL Network’s Jeff Darlington
On the final drive of the fourth quarter to tie the game:
“We just kept believing and kept fighting for four quarters. There is something to say for this team and their heart, their courage and their will to keep going and never back down. We took a lot of shots and we fell down, but we got back up every time and we kept fighting.”
On how comfortable it made him that the crowd turned for him at the end of the game:
“The crowd was going back and forth the whole game. I didn’t really pay much attention to that but what did matter was my teammates believing in me for 60 minutes.”
