BURLINGTON, MA, September 27, 2012 – Boston Celtics basketball is returning to Comcast SportsNet and the action begins with extensive coverage of two Celtics pre-season games live from Europe — Friday, October 5th (Istanbul) and Sunday, October 7th (Milan). Following eight pre-season telecasts, the Celtics 74 game regular season schedule on Comcast SportsNet will begin Friday, November 2nd, with an exclusive broadcast of the home opener against the Milwaukee Bucks.
The 2012-13 Celtics game schedule on Comcast SportsNet includes some of the most anticipated and marquee matchups the team will take on this season. Highlights include: the Oklahoma City Thunder matchup on November 23rd; the Christmas Day game against the Brooklyn Nets; the January 16th battle against the New Orleans Hornets when Coach Doc Rivers will face his son; an exclusive Super Bowl matinee vs. the L.A. Clippers on February 3rd; the L.A. Lakers rivalry on February 20th; and two heated rematches against Miami on March 18th and April 12th.
Mike Gorman will return as voice of the Celtics along with color analysis from Basketball Hall of Famer and Celtics legend Tommy Heinsohn — marking 32 consecutive seasons the duo has called Celtics games together. Greg Dickerson will once again provide courtside coverage, while CSNNE.com Celtics Insider A. Sherrod Blakely will contribute to the telecast and provide in-game reporting on CSNNE.com. Gary Tanguay will return as host of Celtics Pregame Live presented by Ace Ticket, Celtics Halftime presented by McDonalds and Celtics Postgame Live presented by New England Ford Dealers. NBA veteran Donny Marshall will once again join Tanguay as studio analyst and color commentator for select telecasts, and will contribute to the weekly Celtics Courtside Club show. Former NBA and Celtics player Brian Scalabrine, who contributed to Comcast SportsNet’s telecasts during the Celtics Playoff run last season, will return to the network as an additional member of the Celtics broadcast team. Scalabrine will join select road telecasts as a game analyst, and will make contributions to Celtics Pregame Live, Celtics Postgame Live, and Celtics Courtside Club.
“This is one of the most compelling schedules we’ve had in years — from the exclusive home opener on November 2nd to the highly anticipated Springtime rematches against rival Miami Heat,” said Bill Bridgen, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Comcast SportsNet New England. “This season promises to be intense and Mike, Tommy and the entire Comcast SportsNet team will be there as the Celtics begin their quest for this season’s Championship title.”
In addition to the live High-Definition game telecasts Comcast SportsNet will bring to viewers, the network will also offer several additional Celtics-focused programs including:
- Comprehensive on-location coverage of the preseason “Celtics World Tour” in October. Gorman, Scalabrine, and Blakely will travel to Istanbul (Oct 5) and Milan (Oct 7) to call the games and to report on the team each day of their trip, October 1-8.
- A Celtics Season Preview Special which will air on Monday, October 22nd at 7PM. The preview show will include the entire Comcast SportsNet Celtics broadcast team looking back at the end of the 2011-12 season, recapping the player and personnel moves during the summer, and looking ahead to the upcoming season.
- Celtics Courtside Club, hosted by Kyle Draper with Marshall and Scalabrine contributing, will debut on November 8th and air Thursday nights at 9PM every week throughout the season. Each week, the show will feature a one-on-one exclusive sit-down discussion with Coach Doc Rivers and will also include off-the-court Celtics segments and behind-the-scenes coverage.
- Celtics Now will return to Comcast SportsNet with the season debut in late November. The monthly program will take a look back at the most exciting, compelling and outrageous moments from the prior month of Celtics basketball.
- Additionally, Comcast SportsNet will have pre-and post-game coverage for every Celtics game this season, including the Celtics eight national network appearances, which begin with opening night in Miami on October 30th.
Coinciding with the on-air coverage, CSNNE.com — the online home of Comcast SportsNet — will once again be the complete online source for anything and everything Celtics. Both CSNNE.com and the Celtics will invite fans to interact through social media via #CelticsTalk, allowing them to voice their opinions and drive conversation both on-air and online. New this year will be in-game tweets from the Celtics broadcast team, including the best quotes and analysis from Gorman and Heinsohn. In addition, CSNNE.com will offer real-time insider access throughout each game, detailed written recaps and analysis of all Celtics news, and a robust selection of video highlights following every matchup.
