On Rory McIlroy’s eight-stroke victory at the PGA Championship at 13-under-par:
Brandel Chamblee: “What we are seeing is a completely original player in an era of copycats. Rory McIlroy has the power, speed, balance and maturity that are often not accompanied in a young man.”
Frank Nobilo: “When others were tight, he seemed to appear care-free, which is a dream as a player. When a shot was awkward, he seemed to play it with a sense of comfort, like it just belonged and he had a way out of the situation. Anything difficult was played with a sense of ease.”
Chamblee: “The amazing thing about Rory McIlroy is that he not only makes the golf swing look pretty easy, he makes all of the things that are difficult in golf look easy.”
Nobilo: “We finally got a player that looks like he will take it to the next level. I guess you can say eight is enough. Could have been nine, could have been six. In the end, he played a faultless closing round.”
Chamblee: “Rory McIlroy, in a sea of big men, in a land of big-ball golf…at 5’9”, 160 pounds, beats the big men at their own game and blows it past them and blows the field away.”
Nobilo: “In the end, we are going to remember one thing. Breaking a record. The record stood at seven shots held by Jack Nicklaus. Courtesy of his putt at 18, it now stands at eight.”
