NEW YORK – May 29, 2014 – SiriusXM will offer listeners nationwide comprehensive coverage of the 2014 Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 7, as Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner California Chrome attempts to become thoroughbred racing’s first Triple Crown winner in more than 35 years.
SiriusXM listeners will hear the live race call (post time: approx. 6:52 pm ET), as well as a full day of coverage leading up to the race, on Sirius channel 93 and XM channel 208 on satellite radios, and on channel 961 on the SiriusXM Internet Radio App and online at SiriusXM.com.
After winning the Kentucky Derby by 1-3/4 lengths on May 3, and the Preakness Stakes by 1-1/2 lengths on May 17, California Chrome will attempt to become just the 12th Triple Crown winner in thoroughbred racing history, and the first since Affirmed won the elusive trifecta in 1978. The three-year-old colt and jockey Victor Espinoza are on a six-race winning streak heading into Belmont.
“Winning the Triple Crown is one of the rarest achievements in all of sports, and when the possibility of it happening presents itself the world takes notice,” said Steve Cohen, SiriusXM’s SVP of Sports Programming. “With the anticipation building for California Chrome’s run at the Belmont, SiriusXM will provide comprehensive coverage leading up to race day, as well as the live wire to wire call from the track. Our subscribers will be able to follow this event every step of the way.”
SiriusXM’s race day coverage begins on June 7 at 10:00 am ET with a special edition of Down The Stretch, hosted by acclaimed track announcer Dave Johnson and Bill Finley. In addition to the main event, coverage will feature five other Grade I stakes races including the Metropolitan Mile, Knobb Creek Manhattan handicap and others.
