ROSENTHAL: HANLEY CAN BE A SUPERSTAR IN LA – Following the surprising acquisition of Hanley Ramirez via trade with the Marlins early Wednesday, MLB on FOX insider Ken Rosenthal sees a Manny Ramirez-like renaissance in Los Angeles for the power-hitting shortstop. “This could be Manny all over again, presumably without the pharmaceutical assistance,” Rosenthal writes. “Hanley has the Hollywood good looks, and when in the mood, he can pull off the charm. It’s difficult to imagine him hitting like Manny did in the final two months of 2008. However we’re talking about one of the game’s supreme talents, assuming that he finally gets his act together.”

PEREIRA: NFLRA LOCKOUT WILL COMPROMISE INTEGRITY OF THE GAME – In an appearance on FOX Sports Radio’s “Loose Cannons” last Thursday, former NFL Vice President of Officiating and current NFL on FOX rules analyst Mike Pereira discussed the current labor dispute between the NFL Referees Association and the NFL. This week, in more detail, Pereira penned a column for FOXSports.com to further discuss the potential consequences of this year’s NFL lockout. Pereira wrote, “The replacement officials are going to make a lot more mistakes in the area of judgment, game management, timing and rules interpretation than the regular officials. This thing needs to get settled before a single down of football is played.” As NFL VP of Officiating in 2001, Pereira experienced an NFLRA lockout first hand. “Simple facts are that player safety and the integrity of the game are at risk. Both sides need to sit down and negotiate. Both proposals have room for negotiation.”
