Cancer Survivor Boston College LB Mark Herzlich’s Inspirational Road to Recovery Profiled on Game Changers Presented by Ford Mustang – Tuesday, April 19 at 8:00 PM ET
This week, Game Changers profiles the story of Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich, who missed the entire 2009 season after he was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. After it was announced he was cancer free in September of 2009, Herzlich returned to the field in 2010, starting in all of the 13 games. Considered a first-round draft choice prior to his cancer diagnosis, Herzlich prepares for the NFL Draft, working with three-time Super Bowl champion linebacker Willie McGinest, trying to prove that he still has the talent and drive to be an NFL linebacker.
“We always had that dream to play in the NFL, and after my junior season [in 2008] that dream was more of a reality. Shortly after that, it was taken away.” – Mark Herzlich
With the NFL Draft less than two weeks away, NFL Network examines some of the notable draft prospects in Game Changers Presented by Ford Mustang every Tuesday at 8:00 PM ET. NFL Network analyst and former head coach Steve Mariucci puts each prospect through an interview, film study and on-field workout to give viewers exclusive access into the lives of these athletes on and away from the football field.
Below are video links and select quotes from the last week’s episode of Game Changers, which focused on the defensive backs and included Nebraska’s Prince Amukamara and Texas’ Aaron Williams:
– Steve Mariucci sits down in the film room with Prince Amukamara and Aaron Williams:
– The two cornerbacks take to the field, along with the help of former All-SEC cornerback and current NFL Network analyst, Charles Davis:
– “Prince to me is the prototype corner. I think he’s a top-ten pick; he could go No. 9 to Dallas. But his strengths are he can play press-man: get up in your face, be physical. He’s a 200-pound corner and he can run.” – Mike Mayock on Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara
– “As far as Aaron Williams is concerned, he played all over for the University of Texas. He’s physical, he’s tough. I ultimately think that his best position might be safety. Why? I think the free safety position is becoming a glorified corner. This kid might be ideal. Williams is a late first round, to early second round pick.” – Mike Mayock on Texas cornerback Aaron Williams
– “I see their future being very bright. Aaron Williams is a guy that is going to make a difference. He’s got size, he’s got skill, he’s got versatility. With Prince, he’s a man-to-man kind of guy. I love his ball skills. With the ball in his hands, he can score points. That’s what we’re talking about with a game changer: somebody that can make a play and alter the course of a game in one second.” – Steve Mariucci on the two cornerbacks

Baltimore Ravens LB Ray Lewis, NFL Network Legal Analyst Gabe Feldman & Michael Lombardi Featured on the Latest Edition of ‘The Rich Eisen Podcast’ Available on NFL.com/iTunes
The latest edition of ‘The Rich Eisen Podcast’ is now available for download on NFL.com and iTunes. To start off this edition of the podcast, Eisen conducts what he describes as “one of the most soulful and intense interviews” he’s ever conducted: a one-on-one sit-down conversation with All-Pro linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens, Ray Lewis. Lewis, who was the very first guest on ‘The Rich Eisen Podcast,’ returns and took the time to speak with Eisen after his appearance on NFL Total Access. Lewis touches on the counseling he has given to younger players about the importance of managing their money and looking for opportunities off the field. A 15-year veteran who missed only five defensive snaps in 2010, Lewis also talks about how much longer he can see himself playing and his inspirational ritual following every Ravens home game. At the conclusion of the conversation, Lewis introduces Shad Ireland, the first dialysis patient to ever complete the Ironman Triathlon, who talks about overcoming adversity and raising awareness of kidney disease. Also on this edition of ‘The Rich Eisen Podcast,’ NFL Network analyst Gabe Feldman gives an update on the court-ordered mediation, and NFL Network analyst Michael Lombardi discusses all of the important issues surrounding the NFL Draft on April 28-30.

– “You’ve got to know this knowledge, you’ve got to know what’s going on. Rich, honestly they’re not educating themselves anymore. They’re focused on running a fast 40 [yard dash] or jumping a high vertical leap. That’s it, and when you look at the vicious cycle it’s only a matter of time before that happens.” – Ray Lewis on why some current players struggle financially after football
– “I promise you Rich, only God can tell me that. I love it too much. We spoke about it earlier, my impact on men is the reason that motivates me in life. The game is just a stepping-stone now.” – Ray Lewis on how much longer he can see himself playing
– “We can’t walk out of that stadium and act like that doesn’t exist. That’s why when I leave the stadium, I walk and I tell my guy, ‘Take me somewhere else, take me to the hood. Let me change one person’s life.’ Win, lose or draw. I go to the hoods of hoods, I go where nobody wants to go.” – Ray Lewis on his post-game ritual following Ravens home games
Philadelphia Soul Face Tampa Bay Storm in Home-Opener on “Arena Football Friday” on April 15 at 8:00 PM ET
The second season of NFL Network’s Arena Football League (AFL) “Arena Football Friday” broadcasts continues on Friday, April 15 at 8:00 PM ET when the Philadelphia Soul (1-3) host the Tampa Bay Storm (1-3). Last week on “Arena Football Friday,” the Georgia Force defeated the Dallas Vigilantes, 55-48.
