– “He’s the most disruptive force I’ve seen in a very long time.” – Warren Sapp on Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt
– “I thought Denver and Seattle was a big game but Houston and Dallas is the kind of game that as players, we want to play in. I haven’t missed playing in the National Football League, but every year there are one or two games that makes me wish I could tee it up in that game one more time.” – Sterling Sharpe on the Houston Texans-Dallas Cowboys matchup
– “They are absolutely contenders. Everyone wants to talk about Tony Romo, DeMarco Murray, Terrence Williams, Dez Bryant, but…it’s the big fellas up front. They have solidified that unit up front. They are blocking, protecting Tony Romo…and opening holes for DeMarco Murray. That is what the Dallas Cowboys have been searching for.” – Shaun O’Hara on the Dallas Cowboys
– “He is being patient and giving his offensive line time to set their blocks. DeMarco Murray is doing a fantastic job and he is the reason that we are talking about the Dallas Cowboys here at 3-1.” – Shaun O’Hara on Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray
– “The Cincinnati Bengals look like the most complete team in the National Football League. I can’t wait to see how they match up against New England.” – Sterling Sharpe on the 3-0 Cincinnati Bengals
– “For the first time in a very long time, the Patriots from a talent standpoint are just outmatched and they are going to be outmatched in this game with the Cincinnati Bengals. I just don’t see a scenario where they come away with a win.” – Michael Robinson on the New England Patriots facing the Cincinnati Bengals
– “Nothing is wrong with Tom Brady. When you look at the New England Patriots, they are going to have to readjust how they evaluate talent…You have to bring in some heavy hitters to protect Tom Brady at 37 years old and help him get the ball out of his hands.” – Sterling Sharpe on the New England Patriots
– “He has to put it on tape that he will take the ugly four yards. When he sees an opening, when he sees a small hole in the line of scrimmage, take it. Because eventually in the fourth quarter, that 40-yard run will be there for him. He has to start to take the ugly three and four yards.” – Michael Robinson on Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy
– “The Ravens are a better team…They play defense and they are going to be able to get after Andrew Luck. The Ravens are more battle-tested and they are better built to play championship football. This is going to be a championship game for them.” – Michael Robinson on the Baltimore Ravens facing the Indianapolis Colts
Quotes from NFL GameDay Morning

– “This is what the Dallas Cowboys need. When you look at what their offense looks like, it takes the pressure off [Tony] Romo and he no longer has the excuse to make the bone-head play like, ‘They needed me.’…Throw the football away because we have other ways to win football games now.” – Marshall Faulk on Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray
– “J.J. Watt, he has to show me something today because this is an offensive line that can dominate a game. He has to be as disruptive as he has been in any other game today.” – Marshall Faulk on Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt facing the Dallas Cowboys offensive line
– “The Dallas Cowboys at 3-1 would be the best team in [the NFC East]. I love their run game, I love what Rod Marinelli is doing on defense, [Tony] Romo is playing well but it’s the offensive line. Those are the unsung heroes…This offensive line is young and it’s good and it’s not going anywhere. They’re here to stay.” – Steve Mariucci on which team is the best team in the NFC East
– “Right now because of all these other factors – they’re running the ball [and] they’re taking the pressure off the quarterback like Philly did last year – to me, Dallas is the most complete team and I feel more comfortable with them as a whole than I do with Philadelphia right now.” – Kurt Warner on the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles
– “I believe the Ravens are the best football team right now playing across the board…Offensively, defensively, Joe Flacco is going. I really like this defense; they are keeping people out of the end zone. I say the momentum for the Ravens continues today and they go into Indy and get a win.” – Kurt Warner on the Baltimore Ravens facing the Indianapolis Colts
– “He was supposed to represent the transformation in the position. He was supposed to herald the new age…He has gotten better, more proficient, certainly more mature every season he’s been in the league but he is not Superman. At some point he has to face that expectation which he himself had a hand in creating.” – Mark Kriegel on Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton
– “He’s eliminated interceptions, he’s doing a good job taking care of the football, but the coaches have eliminated Cam’s legs out of the game plan…Cam has to find his legs, run for some first downs, get out of trouble.” – Steve Mariucci on Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton
– “He is the catalyst for this Chicago Bears football team. I picked Jay Cutler [for MVP] because you have Brandon Marshall. Brandon Marshall has been gimpy on that ankle, he hasn’t been healthy and this team, it has shown.” – Michael Irvin on Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall
– “Aaron Rodgers is awesome when you give him what he wants. When he’s played against the teams like Seattle and Detroit that will get up in their face, that will knock their receivers around and put pressure on Aaron Rodgers, this is a completely different team…That’s the bigger question for me. When they play against those good teams – those teams that can get after him and get in their face and play good defense – I’m not sure this is a team that stacks up with the best teams in the NFC.” – Kurt Warner on the Green Bay Packers
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport
On Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray:
“The Cowboys have already started talking with DeMarco Murray on his next contract. In fact, I’m told they no longer have concerns over whether he will be their franchise running back. They have seen enough, injury concerns and all, to believe that DeMarco Murray will be the team for years to come. I’m told by Cowboys sources they have offered DeMarco Murray a four-year contract that will pay him more than any free agent running back got this year. DeMarco Murray has not played in eight games consecutively in his career, but given what he has done this year behind this offensive line, the Cowboys want to make absolutely sure they have him for years to come.”
On the Buffalo Bills’ decision to bench quarterback EJ Manuel for Kyle Orton:
“To understand the situation with Kyle Orton, let’s go back to Dallas. He was Dallas’ backup last year. The relationship I’m told between Kyle Orton and Tony Romo was untenable; they believed they could not continue which is one reason that Kyle Orton essentially forced his way out of Dallas, signed with Buffalo as a free agent. A move that coach Doug Marrone initially resisted because they’re paying him $6 million. He worried he could damage the confidence of EJ Manuel. So then they play last week, they lose. EJ Manuel does not look good. I’m told Doug Marrone made the decision to replace EJ Manuel with Orton in the locker room after the game, solidified it on the flight back – that’s how fast it was. Checked with some of the team’s veterans, got no pushback mainly because this is something that especially the talented skill position guys, they welcomed. They wanted a new quarterback and today with Kyle Orton at least for the first few weeks they’re going to get one.”
On the source of the frustration with San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh:
“A lot of this is coming from some of the veteran and more important players on the team. This has really been going on for some weeks but let’s talk about on the field where the source of the 49ers’ frustration is. It is the offense. This dysfunctional offense that we’ve seen really over the last several weeks; 19th in scoring. Consider the fact that Jim Harbaugh is an offensive coach, a quarterback guru who should have a close working relationship with Colin Kaepernick that simply has not manifested itself on the field. Plus, consider the fact that they have 10 offensive coaches. They put the resources there [and there are] just six defensive coaches. So much of the frustration we talked about off the field, really they want to see this offense on the field. That’s what Harbaugh is tasked to do.”
On the timetable for Houston Texans linebacker Jadeveon Clowney:
“Sources tell me the Texans are slated to have Jadeveon Clowney in two weeks; that’s October 20 against the Steelers on Monday Night Football, his national television re-debut. So much of what the Texans planned to do this offseason and into camp was have Jadeveon Clowney and J.J. Watt next to each other, just to become an absolute nightmare for any offensive line. Has not materialized because of injuries but they definitely plan to Clowney back from this torn meniscus sooner rather than later.”
On Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III warming up with his teammates:
“That certainly was a milestone for RG3. Not only is he out of the cast for that dislocated ankle but also stretching with his teammates. I am told RG3 is slated to be back in three weeks for the Washington Redskins, which should put him back before the bye. That would be October 27 against the Cowboys, also on national television. When RG3 went down, there was so much excitement for Kirk Cousins; maybe they didn’t even need RG3 back. But the way Cousins played last week, now the fact that RG3 is going to come back in three weeks certainly seems like it’s very good news for the Washington Redskins.”
On if the Oakland Raiders are considering interim head coach Tony Sparano as their permanent head coach:
“The Raiders are looking elsewhere. In fact, they will target Jon Gruden. They want a rockstar coach and of course Jon Gruden is the most rockstar coach out there. They haven’t made contact with him yet; my understanding is they will. We know that Jon Gruden is under contract to be a broadcaster. I am told he can get out of that contract in order to join the Oakland Raiders this season if that is what they wanted to happen, but he will not mainly because he has made a commitment to broadcast throughout this season. Something he will consider after the season. Right now it seems they are stagnant in their coaching search trying to play out the season. One name to consider: Jim Harbaugh if he does not continue with the 49ers after this season.”
