STAMFORD, Conn. – September 23, 2015 – NBC Sports’ Sunday Night Football heads to the Motor City for the first time in its history, when Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos (2-0) face off against Calvin Johnson and the Detroit Lions (0-2) at Ford Field on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. ET. Coverage begins with Football Night In America at 7 p.m. ET this Sunday, Sept. 27, on NBC.
This marks the first meeting between the Broncos and Lions since 2011, when Johnson recorded 125 receiving yards and a touchdown, and the Lions defeated the Broncos by a score of 45-10 in Denver. The Broncos enter Sunday night’s game following their NFL-record 13th consecutive road win against a division opponent last week with a 31-24 victory in Kansas City over the Chiefs. Sunday night is the Lions’ 2015 home opener after two losses on the road to start the season, including a 26-16 loss in Minnesota last Sunday.
Calling Broncos-Lions are seven-time Emmy Award-winner Al Michaels (play-by-play), in his record 30th season as the voice of the NFL’s premier primetime package; 16-time Emmy Award-winner Cris Collinsworth, who has won the Emmy for Outstanding Event Analyst in each of his six seasons in the Sunday Night Football booth; and two-time Emmy Award-winning sideline reporter Michele Tafoya.
NBC’s coverage of Sunday Night Football is led by Emmy Award-winning producer Fred Gaudelli and Emmy Award-winning director Drew Esocoff.
Football Night in America, the most-watched studio show in sports, is hosted by 26-time Emmy Award-winner Bob Costas, who will report from Ford Field. Costas will be joined on site by Collinsworth, Tafoya, and two-time Super Bowl winner Hines Ward.
Sunday night’s matchup marks the first time that Michaels, Gaudelli and Esocoff will produce an NFL broadcast at Ford Field since they were with ABC for Super Bowl XL in 2006, when the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks, and Ward earned Super Bowl MVP honors for the Steelers with five catches for 123 yards and a touchdown in the win.
Dan Patrick co-hosts Football Night from NBC Sports Group’s International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Conn., joined by Super Bowl-winning head coach Tony Dungy, two-time Super Bowl winner Rodney Harrison, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk on NBCSN and NBCSports.com, and NFL Insider Peter King. Paul Burmeister will report from CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Wash., on the Chicago Bears-Seattle Seahawks game.
