To celebrate today’s one-year anniversary of SEC Network, ESPN debuted a heartfelt commercial starring some of the Southeastern Conference’s youngest and most adorable fans.
Titled “Babies,” the 60-second spot captures authentic families of SEC fans and alumni with their babies in various scenarios to the sound of The Ronette’s classic tune “Be My Baby.” Some of babies featured the vignette include a newborn dressed in her University of South Carolina gear meeting her great-grandmother (a devoted USC alum) for the very first time as well as two future University of Georgia’s fans in the hospital nursery.
The integrated initiative, created in collaboration with creative agency McKinney, celebrates long-standing traditions and fandom of the SEC and encourages fans to “Take It All In”. “Babies” is the newest spot in the network’s “Take it All In” campaign which launched last year.
SEC Network’s television launch, one-year ago today, was the most successful new channel launch in cable history. The network was available to 90 million households when the camera switched on at 6 p.m. ET on August 14, 2014. It grew to 70 million subscribers nationwide and has continued to exceed expectations across the board.
In its debut year SEC Network skyrocketed past its goal of carrying 1,000 live SEC events, and produced more than 1,500. Thanks to the new network, the number of SEC baseball games available on national television quadrupled, softball increased threefold, women’s volleyball and soccer coverage quintupled and gymnastics was produced live for the first time. The network carried 48 football games last season, and hundreds of men’s and women’s basketball games on SEC Network and SEC Network +.
