Following are excerpts from this week’s episode:
On Simms’ comments on Eli Manning not being an “elite” level quarterback…
SIMMS: The way I said it, and of course everybody paraphrases everything, but I will say this, I did it on the Monday (on NFL MONDAY QB on CBS Sports Network) show, as it was coming out of my mouth, and I knew I was believing what I was saying, I said, ‘Oh, this is going to make big headlines.’ But I stayed with it. You know I didn’t get done and say, ‘Oh, let’s take that out of the show.’ … So when I think of it, now I’ve called Eli Manning in the past an elite quarterback. And look, he’s going to the Hall of Fame. I said that this summer too, but that didn’t bring any headlines. But, when I think of elite I think of really special players that have accomplished and have special skills… Well, when I think (elite), Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and I did include Aaron Rodgers because I think those people have physical capabilities that are special in the game of football.
SIMMS: I give him all the props in the world and I’m not back-tracking at all. The way I’m saying it, I look at that special group of the special people. I’m trying to capsulize more than just, “Oh it’s about you won the Super Bowl.” I think that’s my whole premise.
When asked how he would rate Manning in the Top Ten quarterback list…
SIMMS: I don’t know. Just off hand anywhere from six-to-eight, maybe…It depends on how you judge all of it. That’s how I look at it. When we say it, we say it too quick.
