On the Afternoon Fourball Matches
Terry Gannon – “The storm rolled through. When the sky turned blue, so did the leaderboard.”
Tom Abbott – “There is a huge wave of European momentum spreading throughout Golf Club St. Leon-Rot.”
On Anna Nordqvist and Caroline Hedwall defeating Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel 4&3
Judy Rankin – “Talk about being on a roll. It would certainly appear that Carin Koch is going to talk to Anna and ask her, ‘How are you feeling? Do you want to play tomorrow morning too?’”
Rankin – “She [Nordqvist] has put on a clinic all by herself.”
Abbott – “Very impressive performance from Nordqvist and Hedwall.”
Jerry Foltz – “She [Hedwall] found something. This could be just the right thing to turn her confidence completely around after struggling for a better part of the year.”
Foltz – “She [Nordqvist] is just dialed in.”
Morgan Pressel and Paula Creamer speaking with Golf Channel’s Jerry Foltz following their match
Morgan Pressel – “Well Anna played great. She was pretty much out there on her own all day today. I don’t know if Caroline really helped her much on any of those holes, she [Nordqvist] was 7 or 8 under in the 15 holes we played. I don’t think she missed a shot. We certainly didn’t give her much of a fight. We didn’t make enough birdies. You’ve got to make some more birdies in best ball than we did out there. Left a few putts and just didn’t play our best.”
Paula Creamer – “It is a totally different format and mentality. You’ve got to get on your own energy in this way and playing against Anna this afternoon, and Caroline is a good player, but Anna just played awesome this afternoon. We didn’t give her much pressure unfortunately. But it’s one match. We have a couple more days, it doesn’t determine everything but we had a good morning and we’ve got to remember that as well.
Anna Nordqvist and Caroline Hedwall speaking with Golf Channel’s Jerry Foltz following their match
Anna Nordqvist – “I hit the ball really well today. I thought I hit the ball pretty good this morning too, just couldn’t get anything going. But after to be playing with Hedwall, my iron game seemed to be on today and I had a lot of chances and made quite a few putts. Very excited to put a point on the board for Europe.”
Caroline Hedwall – “I was way too pumped in the beginning. I wanted to go after everything, especially in the fourball format. I told Anna that I was going to try to hold back a little bit and it got better after that.”
On Charley Hull and Gwladys Nocera defeating Alison Lee and Angela Stanford 3&2
Rankin – “Charley Hull has had one big day.”
Rankin – “She [Hull] has got a spring in her step.”
Rankin – She [Hull]walks quick, she thinks quick, she swings quick and she is hitting a whole lot of good shots.”
Kay Cockerill – “We have been saying this a lot today. ‘Hull has a putt to win the hole.’”
Cockerill – “It’s been a great partnership today between Hull and Nocera.”
Rankin – “They have a good plan going.”
Rankin – “Couple of people walking on a cloud right now, Anna Nordqvist is one and Charley Hull is the other.”
Terry Gannon – “She [Hull] has been something else this afternoon.”
Rankin – “She [Hull] was good in Colorado as a 17 year old, and hasn’t missed a beat.”
Alison Lee, speaking with Golf Channel’s Kay Cockerill following their match
Alison Lee – “I feel great. To be honest, I was a little nervous how I was going to perform today. I woke up this morning, felt brand new and I hit some balls and hit some good shots today. It was a dream being out here at the Solheim Cup. We fought hard, we just have to brush it off and get ready for tomorrow.”
On Cristie Kerr and Lexi Thompson / Melissa Reid and Carlota Ciganda match all square through 17 (Suspended due to darkness until Saturday), highlighted by Ciganda’s hole-out on 17 from the fairway to even the match
Karen Stupples – “This is a serious match here to be out here watching because the quality of golf has just been stunning.”
Abbott – “What a shot. That could well go in and it does. Talk about European momentum.”
Rankin – “Spectacular shot for Carlota Ciganda.”
Rankin – “Carlota is a world class competitor. She likes the big stage and she likes the scene.”
Rankin – “This is one of the best putting days we have seen from Lexi in quite some time.”
On Caroline Masson and Sandra Gal 1up on Brittany Lang and Gerina Piller (Suspended due to darkness) through 15 holes
Curt Byrum – “Gerina has played really well so far today.”
Byrum – “I don’t remember her [Gal] hitting a poor shot all day.”
Byrum – “Gal is not only not making mistakes, but she is also playing aggressive and hitting quality golf shots and the putter is working for her.”
Rankin – She [Gal] has been good from start to finish. She has walked down every fairway with a smile on her face. She is having the time of her life.”
