NEW YORK (Dec. 23, 2010) — For the first time, all of the best audio content from the NHL and XM’s NHL Home Ice channel now can be found in one place. NHL Audio Presented by XM, a page on NHL.com dedicated exclusively to audio, launches today to house hockey’s best radio shows, interviews and daily features.
NHL Audio Presented by XM is the latest creation of the successful and long-running partnership between the National Hockey League and XM Satellite Radio. It will be the place on the web to listen to re-broadcasts of NHL Live!, the League’s daily radio show that is broadcast on XM and simulcast on NHL Network, and the weekly NHL Hour with Commissioner Gary Bettman, the only show hosted by a league commissioner. It also will be the site to visit to listen to daily content from the Best of XM’s NHL Home Ice, hear features such as Plays of the Week and NHL Classics and access on-demand programs from the League’s 30 teams.
“As the exclusive satellite radio broadcaster of the National Hockey League, NHL Audio Presented by XM is a natural extension of our unique partnership and expands our ability to offer premium NHL content to a broader audience,” said Michael Moskowitz, CEO of XM. “With the NHL XM audio centre, fans will have the opportunity to listen to exclusive clips from NHL Home Ice on XM, sign up for a free 14-day trial of the service, and ultimately sample some of the most unique audio entertainment available.”
The venture premieres today with NHL Radio’s Behind the Scenes of the 2010 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, an audio documentary-scrapbook from last year’s Classic in Boston, that can be found in the Feature of the Day section.
Each day going forward, NHL Audio Presented by XM will enable fans to hear from NHL insiders such as Eddie Olczyk, Bob McKenzie, Ken Hitchcock, Bobby Holik, Kevin Allen and Mike Milbury. Visitors also can listen to packaged highlights of all the NHL’s long-form and short-form audio, including press conferences.
“We are thrilled to work with XM on providing our fans with great audio content in one location on NHL.com,” said Gregg Baldinger, Director of NHL Radio. “This is just the latest example of the great partnership between the National Hockey League and XM Satellite Radio that has long provided our fans with the finest hockey programming on the audio spectrum.”
About the NHL
The National Hockey League, founded in 1917, is the second-oldest of the four major professional team sports leagues in North America. Today, the NHL consists of 30 Member Clubs, each reflecting the League’s international makeup, with players from more than 20 countries represented on team rosters. According to a Simmons Market Research study, NHL fans are younger, more educated, more affluent, and access content through digital means more than any other major professional sport. The NHL entertains more than 250 million fans each season in-arena and through its partners in national television (VERSUS, NBC, TSN, CBC, RDS, RIS, ESPN America, ASN and NHL Network™) and radio (NHL Radio™, XM Satellite Radio and XM Canada).
