Steve Mariucci 1-on-1 with Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll:
NFL Network analyst Steve Mariucci sat down for a 1-on-1 conversation with Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll on the win against the New England Patriots, on naming Russell Wilson as his starting quarterback, his perception as a head coach and more.
On beating the New England Patriots last week who he coached from 1997 through 1999:
“There is always a little something there. To say it isn’t, I am not going to say that. Love that we were able to get that done.”
On defensive back Richard Sherman who was outspoken following their win over the Patriots:
“They have to have an edge that is what we are bringing to this program… that kind of mentality. I want guys that have a chip on their shoulder, that want to prove something, that can’t wait to compete and show who they are. I know what Richard Sherman is talking about; he is standing up for his teammates because we feel like we have a lot to prove. We haven’t done much yet.”
On naming Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback after signing Matt Flynn in the offseason:
“It was hard. It was a challenge, anytime you have to make a big decision like that. He is amazing kid, unbelievable character, drive, work ethic, and a discipline about himself that we now know. He is a baller. We felt like we were doing the right thing and if wasn’t, we would fix it. Russell has to keep going and keep pushing to play well to keep his job because he has a really good player right behind him.”
On his perception as an enthusiastic head coach:
“What I am doing is having fun; I am having the time of my life coaching this game. It would be an absolute crime if I was trying to be something I am not. I am living it to the hilt and trying to make it as fun as I can for these guys and nothing is going to take me off of that. If that is what comes across and that is what is conveyed, then it is what it is and I have to take my lumps. I don’t really care.”
