Tom Haberstroh’s Column & The Big Number Available NOW Exclusively on NBCSports.com/Haberstroh and MyTeams app
New Episode of The HaberShow Podcast Out Tomorrow With Milwaukee Bucks’ Head Coach Mike Budenholzer
STAMFORD, Conn. – March 8, 2019 – As NBA playoff seeding heats up, NBC Sports National NBA Insider Tom Haberstroh takes a deep dive into some important numbers defining the league. On The Big Number, Haberstroh examines the Lakers’ inefficiency when Rajon Rondo joins Lebron James on the court, plagued by a -55 plus-minus when the pair play together. He also evaluates positive numbers on the floor in his weekly column, explaining the immense benefits behind shooting “BOGO 3s” from way downtown. Haberstroh’s latest column is out now, and a new column debuts each week exclusively on NBCSports.com/Haberstroh and on the MyTeams by NBC Sports app.
- “Like never before, teams are taking what I call “Logo 3s” from 30 to 40 feet, usually near the home team’s giant halfcourt logo. There have been 777 such shots already this season, up from 525 in 2016-17 and on pace to shatter last season’s total of 860.”
- “In other words, a short 3-pointer gets you another possession on one-in-five tries, but deep 3s are more along the lines of one-in-three. Just by taking a few steps back before shooting, a second-chance opportunity presents itself to players more often.”
- “Giants tussle for inside position near the basket and box out their opponent so that when the ball falls off the rim, they can snatch it away. But what if the ball doesn’t fall off the rim? What if it jumps off the rim and soars to the free-throw line? Now that box out becomes inverted. If the ball soars overhead, the guy you just boxed out has actually boxed you out.”
On tomorrow’s The HaberShow podcast, Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer joins the podcast to discuss coaching the best team in the East, being in awe of Giannis Antetokounmpo, coaching an All-Star game, why the Bucks don’t defend the 3-point line, Brook Lopez’s 3-point game and much more.
