ESPN3 to Air 15 Matches This Summer; Mylan WTT Finals Live on ESPN2
The Mylan World TeamTennis (WTT) milestone 40th season begins Sunday, July 12, with 15 matches on ESPN3 and concluding with the finals live on ESPN2 on Sunday, Aug. 2. The first match airs Monday, July 13, at 10 p.m. ET with the matchup of last year’s Eastern and Western Conference runners-up, the Philadelphia Freedoms – led by 2014 WTT Men’s MVP Marcelo Melo – and the San Diego Aviators.
Other highlights throughout the 40th season include the home-opener of the defending champion Washington Kastles on July 14 as they start their bid for a record-breaking fifth consecutive title. This summer, world No. 1 and 20-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams will return to the Kastles for the first time since 2011, joining the team’s impressive lineup including returning marquee players Martina Hingis and Venus Williams and American standout Sam Querrey. Venus Williams will take the court July 14 in Washington D.C., while Serena Williams is scheduled to make her home appearance on July 21.
The world top-ranked doubles team, Bob and Mike Bryan, join the action July 23-26 in the inaugural season for the Sacramento-based California Dream. John Isner – the top-ranked American who was picked up by the Springfield Lasers – suits up for a home match on July 24 and 25. Andy Roddick returns to his hometown Austin Aces for a match on July 16 at the Aces’ new venue at Gregory Gymnasium at The University of Texas.
The regular season closes out on July 29 with the anticipated matchup between the Boston Lobsters and Washington Kastles. After finishing at the bottom of the standings in 2014, the Lobsters are a team to watch this year with the addition of Eugenie Bouchard, who will join the action July 27-29.
The Mylan WTT Conference Championships will air on ESPN3 on Thursday, July 30. The conference champions advance to the Mylan WTT Finals on Sunday, August 2. The action starts on ESPN3 at 11:30 a.m. with ESPN2 joining the coverage at 1 p.m. as the best in professional team tennis battle for the King Trophy, named after the league co-founder Billie Jean King.
