ROSENTHAL: IF NATS WANT TO SHUT DOWN ACE, THEY’VE LOST IT – One of the biggest storylines of the last couple of weeks has been the impending shutdown of Nationals’ ace Stephen Strasburg by team management. In a tongue-in-cheek look, MLB on FOX insider and FOXSports.com National Baseball Columnist Ken Rosenthal examines why the Nats would do such a thing. “Please, I can’t stand the sight of this any longer,” Rosenthal writes. “The sizzling 97-mph fastball. The sharp-breaking 90-mph changeup. The mind-numbing, body-bending 82-mph curveball. Please, shut Stephen Strasburg down.”

PEREIRA: INTERPRETATION OF RULES IS DIFFERENT WITH REPLACEMENT OFFICIALS – As the NFL officials’ lockout continues into preseason games, fans have witnessed just how tough it is to be an official in the National Football League. NFL on FOX rules analyst Mike Pereira joined ESPN Radio’s The Herd with Colin Cowherd expressing surprise in the level of officiating between replacement officials and the NFL’s regular officials. “It’s bigger than I thought,” said Pereira. “Having been to games to see it in Atlanta and Baltimore, I recognized how the difference in the rules and the interpretation of the rules affects what is called by the officials on the field. The regular NFL officials have studied the rulebook for so long and have been involved in the NFL game for so long that the interpretation of the rules, penalty enforcement, and management of the clock all comes naturally to them. We never have to question that. Within the area of judgment, that’s where the controversy lies even with the regular guys.”
